Fate of the World

Almost no introduction to the complicated fuel-energy-emission system, and very difficult. More like a simulator than a game... A better introduction would benefit a lot and make this game much more entertaining.

Quite difficult to get into but all the more rewarding when you beat a mission for the first time. The game expects you to experiment and lose a few runs until you figure out how to even get to the end of a scenario without being terribly overwhelmed with disasters. But you'll find out what the cards do. What the interdependencies are. Which techs unlock which buildings and open which paths. Regional strengths and weaknesses. All in all a quite well researched game that managed to predict (in some sense, depending on which scenario you play) the future so far.

This is the game which brought me to Steam...Very depressing, much like our world which it abstracts. Why is it no one includes thorium nuclear plants in the possible energy chain?

Super in-depth climate change simulator with a ton of different paths that you can take to keep the world stable. Also has an interesting gameplay style where you're essentially playing cards which affect each region of the globe. The game can be a bit esoteric at times and doesn't really give you a full picture of each card's effects, but the unofficial patch clears a lot of that up and rebalances several of the paths and actions available to you (so that tech rushing isn't the most viable path by a long shot). I'd highly recommend it with this game for the full experience. You can find it in the discussion page for this game. Definitely worth a shot for any fans of government sims, and its punishing difficulty will ensure some good replay value.

One of the hardest games I've ever played, since the original X-COM game. In a good way, that makes it addictive. There are some missions I still haven't defeated, but rather than getting frustrated I keep coming back to, time and time again.

Barely a game, "Fate of the World" plays more like a simulation. It rewards adapting your strategy to the specific need of each region and is therefore a very informative, decision-rich game. Would recommend to any players who enjoy resource management or want to learn about Climate Change and the politics/technologies/nuances behind it. Truly relevant to today's world (eventhough it was created in 2011 and some things feel a little outdated - it won't stop you from enjoying the game though).
