As a guy pretty into screensaver and idler games as well as tedious grindy fishing mechanics occasionally on the odd while this is probably one of the least interactive games I've come across, and I don't recommend it at all. First of all, to start off with the bad and explain how it works in Fantasy Aquarium, there isn't any particular gameplay loop to this game nor is there anything to do with the fish you obtain, or any mechanics behind obtaining anything. You'll initially start off with a sum of money to purchase a few fish with, and after several real time minutes to potentially multiple whole days (if you're unlucky) your fish will eventually grow into adults and start producing currency - you cannot purchase more fish or any upgrades or do *anything* else in this game until your initial starting fish grow up old enough to start earning you enough cash to buy more fish with, for the record. You'll also acquire coins over time even when the game is closed, so the main idea and the closest thing to a gameplay loop that this game has to offer is basically [opening it every few days > selling off any fish that earn under a certain amount of daily coins > then buying more to replace the old ones hoping you'll obtain something new to fill out the encyclopedia > close game] Rinse and repeat for a few months until RNG blesses you and you've obtained them all. This also isn't to mention how buggy the game is overall with unreadable pixel fonts, really REALLY annoying UI glitches where fish rarities are displayed incorrectly, tutorial tips every single time you open the game, bare bones settings, really unintuitive menu-ing, a ridiculous amount of QOLs needed to make the few menus that you do navigate through like for selling fish less tedious and so on. To make matters worse it's... honestly just a little bit too resource intensive for me to actually leave Fantasy Aquarium on in the background as a screensaver as well, though this is only for my case personally and not something that I think will effect any users who're on a mid to high end device I'm sure, on my lower end laptop it uses around more than a gigabyte of memory on par with that of a browser. So for me leaving the game on in the background actively heats up my device and turns the fans up to a noticeable whirring sound unfortunately. But as for positives, the game does have incredibly nice pixel art and a fun art-style, (although most of the art you see on the store page is pretty much all there is in-game, save for a few aquarium backgrounds) the music and ambient sounds are nice and if I did have a higher end device I probably would leave it up afk on my TV screen, I also do think if you find the images on the store-page appealing and literally just want a screensaver with fish swimming around on it exactly like what's shown off you should totally get this, but maybe on a sale since the $10 AUD asking price stings a lot for a game that constantly gets discounted for around a dollar or two every other month. Though I wouldn't say that this game doesn't have something out there for some people - and really it might be all you could possibly want, however for me it's really lacking in enough depth, optimization and overall content to really be able to recommend it to a large majority of people. More than anything I'm disappointed and I really hope the devs can hopefully use their skills to work towards something a bit more fulfilling in the future instead.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.29/day in the week to Jul 26 → 1.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Its a pretty nice idle game
