Man!
I didn't like it. For achievement hunters - small warning. When you play, the puzzles aren't very challenging so you will think "hey, no worries for 100% cuz I won't skip any puzzle" - until you will get to the end with the sliding puzzle. I mean... I got it in second playthrough (wasn't necessary but I really got pissed about skipping that one) but when I spend more time on one puzzle than on the whole game... its' frustrating. It was the only hard puzzle in the game so it was mean to have it at the end. Also plot wasn't interesting. The mini games were meh. It was just very weak game. Barely hidden objects in them too ~~Check my curator's page!~~
Family Mysteries: Poisonous Promises is a really well developed Hidden Object Game with an engaging story. The puzzles and hidden object scenes struck a nice balance between relaxing and challenging. Loved this one.
The minigames are awful, the hidden objects a mess of random clicking to uncover the actual objects, which aren't hidden except by these covers, the puzzles laughably simple, contrived and often not connected to what is going on. To top it all off, the amount of getting caught, escaping, getting caught again makes suspension of disbelief the biggest chore among many chores here. Didn't even finish because it doesn't get better, the puzzle logic and text gets completely broken before the finale.
FINE
Excellent game a lot of good puzzles and very smooth game play.
This is absolutely the worst game of its kind I have ever encountered. I expected Artifex Mundi to keep up the standard in all their titles, especially since these games don't demand much technically; they only need to replicate the core elements at a decent level to be perfectly fine. But unfortunately, everything fails here: the plot is so embarrassing and sometimes borders on pure parody, where every man encountered must be portrayed as evil, except for the ‘partner’, who is presented as completely useless. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a clicker for women, but it could have a little more depth and deviate at least to some extent from an extremely feminist view of the world; the dialogues aren't any better, and especially the voice acting, which is at a horrendous level; the puzzles and mini-games are trivial, clunky, tedious, and painfully repetitive, where you have to do the same mini-game, for example, three times and each of them is further divided into successive stages of the same clicking. The worst thing about it is that you can simply feel that every element of this game has been made cheaply and that no one cared about any depth or quality. If you're not here for the achievements, give it a pass.
1/10
I can barely remember playing this.
I recommend, but with a few caveats. Compared to other Artifex Mundi games, this one was a bit disappointing, mostly due to its having a fairly vague story line with little character development. It also is a very simple game compared to others, since at most there are only ever 2 or 3 locations you can move between at one time. If you are looking for quick, relatively easy gameplay, this is a good game for that. Some of the puzzles in this game were inordinately frustrating though, especially the match-3 style fight puzzle which takes forever and doesn't always let you win. I got through this by playing on easy mode and skipping a number of the puzzles, and I don't see myself going back and playing it in a more challenging mode. As a whole I think it was worth it, especially because I bought it on sale in a bundle and it provided a good evening's worth of entertainment. I especially recommend buying the bundle since in my opinion games 2 and 3 in this series are a lot more enjoyable to play than game 1, mostly because comparatively they have far better developed (albeit somewhat clichéd) story-lines, and in game 3 they also get rid of the awful match-3 fight puzzle. As a whole, this is a fun series and worth playing.
