this game is absolutely fantastic. it has changed the lives of people that I know. This is the best game ever made and a masterclass of game design.
Considering this is my second most played game and with the recent changes to Bethesda's IP I figured I might as well write a review and encourage anyone who hasn't played this amazing game yet to check it out. So without further ado here is my review... STORY: The game is set 4 years after the events of Fallout 3 take place. You are a courier in the post-apocalyptic Las Vegas area of Nevada (New Vegas) and are sent to deliver a mysterious package to Mr. House, nobody of whom has seen. The land is governed by the NCR (New California Republic) and are a completely separate organization from the Brotherhood of Steel. Essentially it's NCR vs Caesar's Legion in this game whereas BoS vs the Enclave in Fallout 3. After being ambushed by a group of gangsters led by a guy named Benny, you are shot in the head and left for dead in a shallow grave. A securitron by the name of Yes-Man uncovers you miraculously and takes you into the nearby town of Goodsprings for medical attention. From there you are to recover (and play out the game's tutorial area essentially) then find out what happened to your package in a series of "He went that way..." You are essentially free to do as you please once you set up your initial stats and leave the Doc's house. GAMEPLAY: The game allows for as much freedom as you could think for an open world RPG with several followers (if ONLY they added Sunny Smiles as a default additional follower similar to how many people wanted Amata in Fallout 3 without mods) to find and follow you on your adventures. One of the more notable ones is an ex-NCR sniper by the name of Boone found in Novac. You are eventually led to Novac by the main quest and he is typically one of the first followers most players encounter. An interesting feature that is new in New Vegas is Hardcore mode, which essentially provides realistic constraints on staying hydrated, eating, and sleeping, with various negative stat debuffs given if you don't take care of your character. They also add the Survival skill which increases your proficiency in cooking animal meat, crafting chems and supplements from herbs found throughout, as well as combining Big Guns and Small Guns into one 'Guns' skill which makes sense. New Vegas also increases the default level cap to 30 compared to Fallout 3, and with all DLCs the player can level up to 50. Given that Obsidian was only given 18 months of development time, they did a great job of balancing and adding new varied content within such a short time frame. GRAPHICS: Instead of brown and green the shades of New Vegas are mostly brown and orange, even more so in Dead Money. There is a stark shift with the Old World Blues DLC which keeps things fresh, but the graphics are mostly the same. I would say in general there are more armor sets (and weapons if we're being honest) to choose from and nothing feels really dated. CONCLUSION: What can I say? This is not only one of the best RPGs ever made, but one of the best games at that. The voice acting, the player choice (especially when it comes to endings), the story (you have a more neutral perspective of how things play out vs in Fallout 3, you feel obligated to find your Dad and help the Capital Wasteland by purifying the water because you're railroaded into helping the Brotherhood of Steel), and the gameplay in terms of holding familiar ties to Fallout 3 while adding new and better elements. I believe Josh Sawyer, the director of F:NV wanted to add romanceable NPCs but cut the content due to time constraints. Had they included that and maybe balanced Speech to where it wasn't as OP then this game would've been perfect. Who knows what we'll see in the future with the remasters. At least to this day, this excellent game still holds up and is worth anyone's time. 9.5/10
Basicamente es el mejor juego de la historia jamas hecho, no tiene mucho mas que decir
ive got spurs that jingle jangle jingle
it is a amazing game sadly there are a lot of bugs eta crash down if there fixed most of those bugged where game crash and get soft lock by auto safe it truely would be 1 of a kind :)
9.9/10 George RR Martin once said that games are not a form of art…. But there is no other word for this game. I don’t mean the graphics or the landscapes, but the ability to evoke feeling. It is a living, breathing art where the choices you make dictate everything, more than any other game I have played. Where characters are so embedded in their belief systems that they never come across as cartoon villains, but a fractured world of people trying to hold their lives together. I have played this game more times than I care to admit, and even now I still come across something new and unique. But I also remember the first times playing the game. The time I walked into a room and my favourite character was shot to death, and I realised that I had unknowingly been a co-conspirator in their untimely demise. Or when I first pulled the trigger on a character I had been led to believe in previous playthroughs was untouchable. My favourite aspect is the factions, so many to sink your teeth into (and in some playthroughs I mean literally). They conflict and complement each other in interesting ways, and just when you think you have one figured out, they might still surprise you. The faction system is next to none, with so many choices that it never feels too similar to the one before. It also has a gated system, where in many cases, yes, you can finish the quest… but if you want to finish it in the optimum way, you will have to run around the wasteland doing other quests first, not grinding, but systematically ordering which quests you do in what order so that you can finish the game the way you want, making you more invested in the decisions you make along the way. An arsenal of unique weapons, hundreds of characters with character and character lines that will bring a smile to your face. This game is one for the ages. And I doubt we will ever see its like again.
I gained a theoretical degree in physics after playing this game.
Spent more time modding than playing.
In 2026 I think you need mods for this game to be stable. It's fun and a good game but the things that are great about it compared to Fallout 4 are more present in Fallout 1 & 2. I do think the story of this game gets a little boring in the second half and the DLC feel like a chore to play.
