The idea of the game is fantastic, but in true roguelite fashion you will frequently lose runs to things that are impossible to deal with and extremely unfair. For instance, there is an ability that enemies can spawn with called Exile, which removes cards from your deck until you get to a rest location. This ability can trigger once per round, and can trigger off of something like "Playing any card", so there are situations in which there is essentially no counterplay. It is possible to never roll a rest location to get those cards back. It is also possible to have an enemy exile your entire deck right before a boss fight. Both have happened to me and it's a genuine feels bad moment.
This is a artsy niche card game with and addictive and often challenging gameplay loop. The soundtrack is eerie yet soothing and the art is a unique and interesting style. I recommend giving it a go if you're into deck builders and card games, or if you're just looking for something casual that has a darker style to it.
I so like to program my deck and watch for an annihilation of enemies after just one mouse click. That's impressive. Actually, this game has a lot of common card effects, just like other card games, but I like this reverse deck-building mechanic, where you collect effects for your cards rather than the cards themselves. Great soundtrack and art. And so much fun.
It's an amazing game that rewards your creativity, specially with an endless mode that is actually endless. Easy rec, specially on sale. The artwork is quite pretty, plus the dev makes sure to support the artists to the point of also linking their profiles. This is the kind of dev we gotta back.
It's incredibly rare that I buy a game for full price without waiting for a sale, but that was exactly the case with Faith in Despair. I just had to buy it after playing the demo. The game is incredibly artsy and atmospheric — from the cover art here on the store page down to the rusty sounds of cards moving across the field, accompanied by somber dark ambient. It's so well-made that it made me realize how much of a sucker for this vibe I truly am. I actually went on to clear my Steam wishlist of more than 50 games because they simply weren't up to the standard set by this one. Gameplay is great, too. It's a relatively small game, as far as roguelikes go, so keep that in mind. It's also solvable and pretty easy. Once you've seen most of it, you can safely go in and optimize the fun out of it. It's not the kind of meticulously thought-through roguelike where you can make EVERY build work; some things are just objectively worse or harder to pull off than others, and you WILL find yourself rerolling for the good stuff. Still, the aesthetics make it a joy to just exist in the game, and you don't really pay much attention to the fact that you're doing a lot of the same stuff each run. I want to end this review with a quick shoutout to the dev! He's still working on the game and streaming the progress too, so I'm sure it will be even better in the future.
A great deckbulding roguelike that I think everyone should try at some point. I do find the story to be interesting so far, so go check it out!
Only a few hours in but this deck builder is crazy. Completely blew away my expectations. Can't wait to play more!
Fun deckbuilder where you make your own "cards". Combine a trigger and some effects, and good to go! Lots of different strategies, and varied enemies. Recommend!
