Loved the game. If you're a Fairy Tail fan you will like this game a lot, my only complain is when the bot plays as your allies
-Natsu Dragneel
crash after black screen. Not a single proton version works with this game.

It feels like a chimera uninspired mishmash of older Koei games. With a plot back drop of the Alvarez empire arc. I intended to stream this game for friends but I'm struggling to find a reason to pick this game back up.
i'm saddened that they didnt put much effort in to this game, however i am a sucker for Fairy Tail games. <<< 7/10 >>>
Fairy Tail 2 is, in my opinion, a clear improvement over Fairy Tail in terms of gameplay mechanics. However, like the first game, I wouldn’t consider it a replacement for the anime or manga, as there are differences, inconsistencies, and missing important characters. I enjoyed this sequel more overall, mainly thanks to the combat system. I know some players dislike it, but for me it felt more dynamic and engaging compared to the turn-based style of the first game. Another big improvement is the open world, which was something I really missed before. It fits the Fairy Tail universe well, although adding more locations, such as additional towns, would make it even better. On the downside, the game has less overall content. I especially missed the request board – while it might not fit during the story, it would have been perfect as post-game content. After finishing the story, there isn’t much left to do. In terms of playtime, I ended up with fewer hours than in the first game, but that’s mainly because the original had a lot of repetitive content. Overall, the time needed to finish both games feels quite similar. A big plus is the difficulty selection. I’m not a player who enjoys challenging combat, so having the option to focus on the story without struggling against bosses was something I really appreciated. Overall, I have mixed feelings. The sequel has better gameplay, but the first game offers more content and longevity. If a third game is ever made, combining the strengths of both would be the ideal approach. I recommend buying it on sale, and the standard edition is enough. DLC content unlocks only after finishing the story, so it’s not very useful during your playthrough. This game is mainly for hardcore Fairy Tail fans who don’t mind its flaws. Others might enjoy the first game more. Overall rating: 7/10

Contrary to popular opinion, I actually think this game is a step-up form the first one! I love the new fighting system, where you actually have to react in time but still don't get locked into helpless button-mashing. As someone who would never be able to even fight a single monster in a souls-like game, the difficulty for me was very pleasant, though I understand it might bore some better players. However, it is still an improvement compared to the turn-based style of the first one, which didn't really fit Fairy Tail's vibe, I believe. The leveling system of the characters has also seen improvement in my opinion. instead of leveling random characters that you never play with points you gain in missions, you now have to actually use them in fights if you want to level them equally. The leveling now is branched, you get to choose which abilities to put points into first, etc. I quite enjoyed it. HOWEVER, the crafting system at the magic cauldron was annoying garbage and I want nothing to do with it. The fact that you couldn't sell the lacrimas so they just clog up your inventory while you search for the ones you actually want to use? Hot garbage. the fact that you can't reliably farm materials, especially minerals, or buy them from the merchant? Hot garbage. The fact that levelling up one lacrima to full max swallowed soooo much of the materials and then I even have a limit on how many of one item I can carry? Absolute hot garbage. It was so annoying that I at some point completely forewent the lacrima-leveling and just brute forced missions with overlevelled characters. The story felt fresh to me, and maybe it was just a rehash of happenings past S2 (did not continue watching after the aging up time skip at the end of jpn S2) but I was genuinely impressed by how invested I was. The side stories you can listen to at the campfires did not interest me as much, but I still felt like it wasn't just a rehash of the show. Mission wise, the collect missions of the first game made a return, although not as prevalent. Otherwise, most missions lead you through the story in some way, otherwise it's more fighting missions. pretty standard I'd say, nothing special or ground-breaking here. The map design is such a huge improvement, the regions are no longer built like long tunnels that you teleport to from the main city, but you have actual fields and everything connects to each other in a semi-open world. There are now multiple cities to explore and actually do things in. What this game severly lacked for an anime with so many outfit changes for basically all its characters was... different outfits. you get one outfit and later on a differently coloured version of that outfit. Erza is the only exception with her armour here. The DLCs for different outfits I found even worse. Chef outfits? really? why not actual outfits from the show? such a missed opportuniy, I so dearly wanted to dress the chracters up in all their different outfits... ALSO, no Sting or Rogue in this game, not even in the DLCs, Absolute disappointment, I was so sad :( All in all, if the first game was a "maybe, if you really enjoyed the show", then this is a "if you even remotely liked the show, it's a yes". But skip the DLCs.
