About
Welcome to Fabular: Once Upon a Spacetime! Before you disembark on this cosmic journey, it’s important to understand one thing. We created a game that embraces difficulty as its cornerstone. It’s hard. In fact, it’s a black hole of hard. You will die. A lot. Pay attention and learn from your mistakes. Do your best to save the universe, space knight!

The Void Lords have stolen the sun. Your brothers have vanished into deep space. The king grows old and fragile, searching for a better future in the endless streams of prophecy. As the last remaining royal, the fate of the kingdom rests on your shoulders – and on your blade.
In Fabular, experience a sci-fi-infused vision of the Middle Ages, as noble knights clash in armored spaceships. The sweeping story is brought to life through a combination of pixel art and hand-drawn illustrations.

Embark on a perilous quest across a procedurally generated universe where friends and resources are both scarce. Plan ahead, be cautious, and make sure you’re prepared before engaging in combat. Every mistake could be your last.

Battle your enemies in top-down, tactical physics-based action combat and overcome thrilling duels at the tip of your sword.

Loot your fallen adversaries for better gear and upgrade your vessel to suit your playstyle in order to survive the next fight. Monitor your resources closely, or risk being stranded in space.

Die and try again. Return to the throne room after each defeat, unlocking new boons to give yourself an edge on your future runs. Meet new faces and seek guidance from old friends, as you’ll expand the court throughout your journey.

Save your kingdom against all odds by carving your path through the galaxy, challenging rival knights in fiercely intense close-combat encounters. Upgrade your arsenal of weapons, shields and equipment. Manage critical resources wisely. Make life-or-death decisions. And if you fall in battle, be prepared to do it all again.

Joyous fun to hack and slash in this twin stick melee focussed brawler
Combat is fluid, careful play is rewarded with cover, skill and precision. The story seems interesting so far and I'd love to see how it is expanded upon later in development. Will be putting more time into it.
It's got some solid bones. Also it gives me wonderful Hammerfight vibes, so thumbs up.

nice game, i hope for more updates tho, it feels more like a demo than finished game rn
Egyszerű és szuper sci-fi akció RPG
development appears to have started up again, so I'm changing my review to a thumbs up for not giving up on the project and coming back to finish it
A rather unusual premise that, baring some minor hangups, the developers pull off with flying colors. The gameplay is very punchy and satisfying, your knight-mech-spaceship has a lot of weight to it that at first will feel "ungainful" to control, but in a right way. Rather than feeling unfun, it feels immersive, feels impactful. And as you play more, eventually piloting will feel like second nature. The overall style feels rather fresh with its fusion of high tech and Medieval/Victorian European elements. It's a setting with a very distinct feeling to it. There are many settings that fuse fantasy and tech, but I'm not aware of any that do it like this, specifically. There are some minor issues, like the skill trees not being entirely balanced, with some skills being quite a bit superior to others, on an uncommon occasion even entire mechanics can feel borderline vestigial, but not only are these problems nowhere near severe enough to caution against playing this game, those problems are also actively being addressed by the developers. This truly feels like a game developed with the purpose of making something beautiful and compelling.
I've tried Fabular and honestly it is a game with great potential. I was kinda surprised to see a gecko guy but that's awesome (I am very fond of geckos, other lizards and turtles and even had one for ~15 years). Gameplay is pretty engaging and with a little time to get used to combat it felt even better. You can only guess how much more game will become during EA->Release phase. On the feedback side I'd suggest making a perfect attack/opponent attack glow/flashing a little more intense (or add an option for intensity of that feature) but that's some minor QoL improvement. Despite having an EA tag I can see devs put a lot of effort in the project and it is well polished unlike many other titles which is awesome. I've had some kind of FTL vibes but with action filled combat and deeply enjoyed playing this one.
Overall Fabular is a really fun and unique take. Easily an 8.5/10 with great combat and cool art. My gripes are minor and its still EA. - Needs more encounter variety the game is hard and by the time you're hitting the 4th and 5th floor you'll have seen every encounter the game has to offer multiple times and can run the promts on auto pilot - Attack telegraphing on ranged enemies and AoE of explosions A couple of ranged enemies have an incredibly thin and short line indicating the attack but have range that is well off screen meaning you can be hit by devastating attacks you have no hope to see coming. Not super fun. The third floor boss has a beam attack that almost had me rage quit. No on screen indication that its coming and hits beyond hard. The AoE indicators for explosions are just a straight up lie. - Performance in the late game Game doesn't have enough video setting controls and in the end game there are so many on screen effects and enemies that performance drops to below playable. - Pause button doesn't work consistently on gamepad Game is great, truly byt I'm gonna have to set it aside until 1.0 because at the moment I'm not able to see the 5th level because of the performance tanks. Hopefully they can address the performance issues because the rest of stuff I can live with.
