The Exosuit sticks to the basics but captures the right 90's vibe, feeling like an original rather than a retro-boomer shooter. Although the game doesn't push boundaries, it still has an interesting look with a cyberpunk-esque style. The controls are functional and intuitive, getting the job done. The music fits the game's tone, despite some repetitiveness. However, the sound effects lack impact. I think the difficulty is all right, offering a fair challenge, but it can be frustrating to get lost or lose progress (save often!). Overall, it's a solid throwback. 6/10.
Exosuit is a super niche, underground boomer shooter that looks, sounds and feels good. The soundtrack is a banger, the weapons all feel satisfying to use and the aesthetic is pleasing and different. My only critique would be that it is short, like 30 minutes short. I love it!
Exosuit was released back in April. I played a demo, then wishlisted it. Then a month ago, I noticed I could buy the game plus the soundtrack as a bundle for -62% off, so went ahead and bought it. This is a riotously good boomer shooter! The most noticeable aspect of Exosuit is the graphics. It uses sprites and seems to use a pre-Doom aesthetic. Actually, to be blunt, even Catacomb 3-D looks more colourful than Exosuit. But the truth is that Exosuit has all the conveniences of a modern FPS. It uses WASD for movement, mouse for aiming and shooting. You can jump. There are stairs that allow you to go up and down -- which wasn't a thing during early FPS games. Like those FPS games of yore, Exosuit's true excellency comes in its level design. You need to find key cards because they open doors. You also have to manage ammo because if you shoot haphazardly, you'll run out. And also, each level is a maze and you'll be rewarded if you explore. I also quite like the enemies. Yes, they are just sprites. However, I like their wireframe look. Quite simply, the minimalism works. As for the soundtrack, it's excellent. It ranges from chiptunes to heavy metal to 90s-style electronica. And while they music can get repetitive at time, they do not wear out their welcome. Obviously, keyboard and mouse is the best way to control this game. However, I had a blast playing this on the Steam Deck. While the controls are not perfect, the developer at least made it playable and I appreciate it. Emergency Exit developed Exosuit. So far, this is their only release. Currently, they're developing an RPG entitled Lost Hope. To me, this is an easy game to recommend. It's a ridiculously inexpensive boomer shooter with a retro look and level design. And I simply appreciate launching a game, immediately getting into the action -- no tutorials and cutscenes. On Steam, Exosuit sells for C$4.99, but the -62% bundle discount is still available -- which means you can purchase the game and soundtrack for C$2.52. It's also available on itch.io for $3.99.

Cool as hell, needs a tutorial. I did NOT know I could save for the first half and died, sending me back to the beginning. REMEMBER TO SAVE!!! Other than that, addicting doom-esque gameplay and nostalgic graphics. Would definitely recommend for bored people with a low budget.
