This might come off as a brutal review, but this is from a place of wanting to see improvement for this games future. I am a massive daikaiju fan, a major toku nerd, so this all comes from a honest place. It's incredibly simple which isn't bad by itself, a sandbox game where you are encouraged to destroy cities mindlessly. It's satisfying running into buildings and watch them fall apart, burning down entire city blocks and have the military helplessly try to fight you off. That is the most polished and fun part of this game, everything else sadly feels like an after thought. You see a hint of this once you start spawning in the monsters in sandbox, good example is Excidio themself as they only use two out of six attacks that character has. They don't even throw punches when up close, which is very strange. It's disappointing too because kaiju fights should be more of a focus for a kaiju simulator, something the genre is known for. Besides sandbox, the only other notable game-mode is the survival, which you must survive multiple waves of enemies which are the military and other kaiju. However, a major problem this game has is the fact there are only three main kaiju that are both enemies and playable characters, leading to the game struggling to entertain me with it's lack of diversity. The kaiju enemy roster in survival (at least as Excidio) is this: Golems and reskinned Golems which are meant to be robots sent by the military(robots that don't even have their own attacks mind you), Bigger Golems, Boss Golem, Monkey, Boss Monkey and Final boss(which you have no real incentive to fight since you don't even get a reward like unlocking them or something). As you can imagine it is very tedious and worse, you will probably end up getting stun locked by one of the bosses spamming an AOE attack, causing you needing to restart the incredibly slow grind. Oh yeah, grinding is apart of this too, because you need to level up your kaiju just so they can do actual damage. This basically means you were locked behind an artificial difficulty wall and none of it really mattered because the enemies stats simply outclassed you, so you waste more time grinding just to get no reward at the end. If there is any changes depending on the character you are playing as, rather not bother because I felt like my time was wasted. Another issue that comes from the lack of actual characters is that destroying cities with just the three kaiju in sandbox will end up getting boring quickly. It's odd too because you'd think a mecha would be it's own character here, a flying kaiju, alien invader, a giant plant, anything else really. The kaiju genre is vast and has many ideas you can take from, even something silly like a ice cream monster would be neat. Yet despite all the untapped options you can have for monsters, we are still stuck with two very safe copies of pre-existing characters and one original which honestly doesn't stick out all that much. Now I have been very harsh here, but once again this comes from a place of wanting to see improvement. Hopefully this will be taken into account because this game really feels far from a finished product, which really is a shame because besides Gigabash, this is the only other kaiju game that has scratched a inch for me in a long time. If you REALLY love destroying things as a giant monster, go ahead and buy this. However, this game needs way more work put into it before I would recommend it to somebody with empty pockets.
Feels more like a demo or proof of concept than a full game.
I really like the *idea* behind this game. I love Destruction games, I love Kaiju games, I love Kaiju Destruction games. Simple as. The problem is this game just... doesn't feel like it should be out of early access, and that really pains me to say. There's a lot of small things that scream unpolished: You can't use the mouse in the menus so you have to use arrow keys and enter, enemies spawn with no VFX and will often on screen just pop into existence, as far as I can tell there's no tutorial or information on individual monsters to help inform your build... (a little bit in the Codex but it's all flavoured as lore rather than gameplay really, a basic blurb should be on character select) it just feels very barebones despite a very obvious amount of love and passion being put into it. I desperately, desperately, want a good Kaiju game- and I think this has the makings of one but it really needs to improve. I have some suggestions that I'll do my best to explain: Turning radius: Either make it so you can turn your monster around with dedicated buttons ala Godzilla PS4 with L1 & R1 (or Mouse & Keyboard equivalents in my case, Q&E maybe?) or do some sort of revamp to how turning around works with WASD. I get that as a Giant Monster you're obviously gonna have a pretty big turning radius but at least in my playtime I spent most of it *running away* from enemies while recharging energy and stamina, only to find I can't hit my damn ranged attacks without doing a Massive circle because if I simply point the camera backwards and aim it'll shoot in the direction my character is facing. Weirdly enough the Stone Titan's 4 *does* spin you around, which I think might be a bug but the abilities turning you around might be a decent enough compromise although it does feel pretty jank. Arcade: The design of Arcade mode just kind of... confuses me? You keep your level, but you don't get to pick what wave you start on- so it means once you've levelled up a bit suddenly every new run you have to sit around and wait for it to get engaging. Even then, I'm not really a fan of how it is to be honest... my understanding is that the inspiration was at least in part Vampire Survivors- which I think just doesn't work for this at all. You get stunlocked very easily, seemingly regardless of your own level- so you can't just charge the enemies head on, you end up kiting them around the level desperately waiting for your energy and stamina to recharge, so you can beam them and what not (which goes back to the turning radius issue) but that feels *really bad* in a game where you are supposed to be a cool giant powerful monster. The small stone golems are like half the size of Excidio, I should be swatting them with only a few hits! I get that is the experience you have once you level up a bit and then start a new run, but again I find that a very strange design decision to keep your level yet not allow you to start at a later wave (unless I missed something?). The level system in general is pretty sluggish, it takes ages to level up once you're past about 5 or 6, the radius in which you get the EXP orbs to me feels way too small and so you're having to do a lot of vacuuming up the map. I get that's probably a Vampire Survivors thing, but in that game you're a decently fast sprite on a 2D plane, not a giant 3D monster. I don't want to say "You should redesign Arcade and rip the Vampire Survivors out" but that is sort of what I'm leaning toward, but that being said I think it could MAYBE work if Arcade went in a proper roguelite direction where you get actual items with unique effects on level up rather than just stat increases. If you really want to make it VS then you have to give unique effects to actually make it interesting. My suggestion for a "main" mode is essentially what Godzilla PS4 did, a small campaign where your main task is to destroy the city and maybe some sort of doodad and depending on the parameters, a boss monster of some variety would appear. At the moment, I think on the whole 1v1s are better in this game- the movement is not there to make horde management fun and because it's a *Kaiju* game you don't want movement to be super slick anyway. You could still use hordes at times, maybe like a Risk of Rain "Horde of Many" where it's a shared boss health bar across a bunch of smaller guys. Ultimately I think Arcade really just lets the game down despite presumably being the primary mode, it feels caught between the limitations of being a Kaiju Destruction game while seemingly wanting some sort of repeatable Vampire Survivors-esque loop and thus on the Kaiju side you feel either weak or boring and on the VS side you don't get any of the interesting stuff or hooks that game does. Rampage: Much more minor criticism here, but I think Rampage would be best with some settings and modifiers. Even just really basic stuff like being able to change how long the timer is. Getting into sillier and more interesting modifiers would give it a lot of replayibility, but I think being able to change the time is a must. Now just some general stuff that stuck out to me, as Strange. I think the biggest thing is that roaring seemingly... does nothing? I get that it's for cool factor and is basically a taunt, that's fine, but I think it should do SOMETHING. Especially considering you can choose between a long roar or a short roar it FEELS like it is supposed to do something. Usually in other games, roaring makes your energy or rage meter go up a bit quicker- and I think something like that is completely fine for this. Also, at least for Excidio, the long roar on it keeps you locked in for an extra couple seconds after the roar is done because it's slightly readjusting its position and rearing back, it feels really weird and I get the intent but I feel that could be sped up or let you move after the roar is complete and it leans back up. Also on Excidio, I feel there was very little difference between the beam and the flamethrower- I could tell there Was a difference but it didn't seem apparent on why I'd use one or the other. I also found both of them (as well as the Golem's rock throw) to be very difficult to aim, it seems to be based both on your mouse AND your movement so you're constantly correcting both in order to keep on target during a beam. My immediate thought on what you could maybe do is pull in to some sort of over the shoulder perspective with a reticle and just make aiming entirely mouse/right stick dependent. Basically how Dino Mode Grimlock's flamethrower works in Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. That's just one idea though, regardless I did get the knack of it somewhat but it didn't feel great- possibly it feels better on controller and if that is the case that it was mostly designed for controller I feel the game really ought to have a "This game is best enjoyed with a gamepad" splash screen at the start. It genuinely upsets me to say I don't recommend it, because I really want to. The destruction is super fun (although I wish the environments were bigger with larger buildings) and I can tell there is a lot of genuine passion in here but to me it just doesn't feel like a game that should be out of Early Access. There's a lot of glaring issues from the design side that feel as if they should've been ironed out ages ago. I think if it *was* in EA I'd be more positive but the fact it is a Released Game opens it up to more scrutiny in my view. If the Dev(s) read this, please do not take this as me trying to be miserable and put down your game. I genuinely really want to like it, there's just a lot holding me back from enjoying it, but I do think it is very much workable and can be improved over time. I really hope it is.
This game is WAY too addictive and such a good game. The destruction is actually good and I cant wait for the military mode as ive been waiting for something like that forever. HOWEVER 2 problems I have with the game: my first problem (which is more of a personal thing as my internet is terrible) is that my internet went off MID game and SOMEHOW it got rid of all my progress on my kaiju's. My only other problem is I think they need to update the combat, the entire game is a hit and run type combat which can get really shallow/boring after an hour. Besides these problems this is an amazing game and I hope to see how it improves in the future :D
Fun for a bit but I can't recommend it right now, though I do hope that changes some day. For a game that is is apparently past 1.0 (ie is not early access) it feels pretty unfinished in both it's actual gameplay and it's feature set. I'd like to see the devs refine the core of the existing gameplay and modes rather than adding entirely new modes as they seem to be currently doing. Also random specific nit pick: The abilities don't need to have both individual cooldowns and a shared energy meter - just pick one
Excidio is a very fun sim that let's you destroy everything in your path, from cities to soldiers & enemy Kaijus and looking bad ass while doing it. While there are only three modes to play, they're well polished, infinitely replayable and with the final update allowing mod support, it gives the games lifespan even bigger longevity that it already had. For the price point, it is a must have for any Kaiju fan
A fine sandbox game, if a little small. Combat can be frustrating at times but, this is mitigated the more familiar you get with the system. At the time of writing I have beaten the final boss with everyone but the monkey, and I see little reason why I couldn't do that to. More characters and a dedicated Monster V Monster mode would do a lot for this game though. Edit: The Monkey has tasted victory.

Un muy buen juego de mousntros gigantes. No lo parece pero es super adictivo, le seguire mandando mas horas con mi NO godzilla aunque se parezca a godzilla, aunque no lo es por terminos de permisos
