Evidence of Life is surprisingly addictive. While testing this game in beta, I've spent countless hours exploring and leveling up my character and enjoying every second of it. Every time I finish a planet and move to the next one, It's always refreshing to see what new aliens and plants I will find there. Watching my character's stats raise through my efforts is quite satisfying to say the least. I've followed this game through it's development (as a tester) and it's always refreshing to find a dev that really takes the criticism of his audience and adjusts the game to fit that audence. JustWall Games and Albatross Wirehead have both made a great game here. If you like many hours of replayability for just $5, this is the game for you!
The art style, music and sounds make me feel like I am in a sci-fi movie from the 80s. There is a lot of combat but it also feels a lot like exploring a planet with alien plants and disgusting creatures. Finishing my first planet took about 1 hour. After exploring for a while I found a creepy cave with the, lets call it, "last piece of DNA" in it. That was kind of unexpected and I am curious what other hidden things there are on other planets! (It is not supported but I am actually playing on Linux and it works perfectly!) PS: ♥ the dog
I'm enjoying this a lot. It's not a huge, complex game, but it is fun and somewhat addictive. It strikes at the heart of my love for space exploration. It reminds me of a kind of stripped down version of Terraria (a game I love). I would call it a casual game, even though it is somewhat challenging. I like how it has some basic rules of play and it throws you in without wasting time with cut scenes and unecessary story-telling. With that said, I think it could stand a little more in terms of lore, even it it is just occasional massages coming from your ship, or base or something. I lke the upgrade system. It's nice to see your character level up every once in a while. I do think the leveling up would be better if it happened somewhat less frequently, but with greater boosts. As it is, it is hard to notice the incremental changes that happen to your different skills. Reducing the number of boosts, but increasing their power would make leveling up more satisfying. I really enjoyed finishing my first planet too. For the price this is a fun little game.
I was sent this game sometime late October to check it out and give feedback
Evidence of Life really surprised me, it's not like I expected the game to be bad, I just didn't expect to fall into it so hard. If you're a fan of games like Risk of Rain and Super Motherload then I think you'll really enjoy this game. I constantly found myself coming back to it when I had some down time to inch my way closer to my world shattering goals. I became addicted to the gems, I needed them, I fiended over them. As you start to see the results of your levels and achievements you really do start to feel powerful. Unfortunately this leads to some deaths caused by overconfidence. My only worry while I was playing the game was what the price point was going to be. I was thinking if it was priced around $10 - $15 then it would absolutely be worth it. After seeing the price at launch I can confidently say that this game is a definite buy, I am genuinly surprised to see it priced so low. The gameplay loop is like this: Mine gems > Get stronger > Reach planet goals > Move to new planet While that may not sound like much it is actually really easy to sink into. As you start tearing planets apart faster and faster you start trying to build routines to make it effecient and also find yourself asking "just how strong can I get?" When that sets in you can sink hours into the game without even realizing it. The enemies offer a nice variety of threats and you will die often (don't forget to set those flags). The game isn't a complex one but it is definitely enjoyable, at least to me. I would like to see short descriptions of what the abilities do, while most are easy enough to understand I still am not sure how my force field works or what it is actually doing for me because I seem to die just as fast with it. I also would like to see the dog get a bit more use or the chance to find new companions that can aid you in your journey. Like finding a drone or creature that can offer fire support in battle or collect gems you're close to. The bottom line though is that the game is an absolute diamond in the rough. For the price it is a definite buy, of you want a game to sit down and play after a stressful day of work then look no further. If this review isn't enough evidence that the game is worth it then I don't know what else to tell you. Just look at how many games I have reviewed, free or not I don't give positive reviews often.
Great little game you made! A shame though it is unplayable with an azerty keyboard :/ Please add customizable controls!
This is the first PC game I've ever played aside from League of Legends. The amount of time you can spend in this game is RIDICULOUS! I will spend hours and hours in this equal parts zen and frustrating procedurally generated game! I can't wait for 1.2 and beyond! !flag 10/10
What a great game. The exploration, combat and overall atmosphere is why I love playing indie games.
Awesome game, fantastic art, brilliant music.
This latest version has many big improvements and visual upgrades. It’s full of fast paced bullet-hell action. Your character grows stronger as you collect more types of gems, which will upgrade specific aspects of your character, and also as you unlock perks you get new bullets, increased health etc... There is an endless supply of randomly generated planets - all full of enemies to annihilate, different types of fauna to harvest, and bosses to destroy. All in all, it’s an amazing game that any bullet-hell or platform game fan will adore. Plus you have a cute doggy friend, so 10/10 for sure!
