played the first mission and the coil gun clipped through the wall, soft locking me. The fact that this hasn't been fixed is incredible to me
It gets repetitive really fast.
I really wanted to give this game a thumbs up because I really loved everspace 1 but honestly this sequel sucks giga ass. Music sucks, the intro screen is a complete downgrade from the first one, all systems were completely downgraded from the first one, theres a girlboss woman who instantly beats you and your ex military guy the second she wakes up of cryo and says something about consent (lol), the rpg systems are the worst you could hope for from an rpg (color tier system so you need to 100% the common tier to go into the rare tier and so on). I have no hopes if they ever make a third installment. I'll probably complete the game anyways because that's the least I can do since I grabbed it on sale. tl;dr This is another Rebel Galaxy, first game was great, second game was ass. Edit: Game was terrible, couldn't even ass myself to finish it because every new plot point was a new girlboss, adam being a dumbass again, being upstarted by some random woman in his own game. I hope cockfish gaymes goes bankrupt.
it's nice overall, cool graphics and envs, but poor design choices like stupid puzzles, time limits, restrictions, constant "companions" babbling, etc make every activity a pain, you start to hate it over time, getting just more of the same annoying stuff further into the story
+++ Very much tickles the exploration/reward itch. +++ Fun and inventive story, set inside a rich world. +++ Visually beautiful environments to admire. +++ Easy to get into, with little in the way of obscure mechanics or gotchas. --- Equipment leveling system sours the sauce. --- Not as daring in design as its predecessors. --- Shallow, unsatisfying combat encounters. This is a thumbs-up that comes with a large asterisk. It is an objectively 'correct' game to play, and its greatest fault is really to try to play it too safe and too mainstream - when the previous title's guts to be different was what had made it attractive in the first place. The upside is that it makes this one more universally accessible, and one's at liberty to explore to their heart's content with no time pressure. The exploration is by far the best aspect thanks to a world strewn with puzzles and little challenges that give out equipment as a reward, although because the equipment has RPG-style levels tied to them, these rewards can quickly feel hollow. It's a game to sit back into, enjoy the story, and scrounge for all the little secrets. That's good enough to carry it across the line.
