the fixed/follow camera was bad enough but then i picked up a herb and could not do anything else. hitting "i" did nothing it just locked up. sometimes game like this have some charm but this is not one of them.
A poor excuse for an ARPG. I'd excuse it for it's simplistic gameplay. But I draw the line when a developer's incompetence becomes part of the "difficulty"...A tedious and trite experience throughout...
Good old style game +++
Fix camera and unmapable controls killed my first impression, and then the repetitive combat and lack of voice acting killed the rest.
+ Norse mythology and Elven theme: It's nicely done. I believe the game would look outstanding with a better graphics. The story is average, but you can learn something about Norse mytology if you don't mind reading long texts. + Switching between characters is an interesting aspect: It makes sense that elf and human have different skills and allies. + No crashes and problems with running the game: That's a huge positive for me.. - You're forced to go through the same locations multiple times: You start the game with the elf Aurehen. After a while you switch to the human Bior and follow the same path. This is repeated throughout the game. - Why does Bior have a shield if he can't parry or defend? : The entire combat system is about dodging and running while trying to hit an enemy. No attack blocks or parries. - Healing: I would appreciate it if my character healed faster and I didn't lose 30% of the healing, because the healing animation leaves me defenceless. - Camera ankles: When you explore the area, it's fine. But when you're fighting, it can be a problem, because sometimes the ankle changes in the middle of the field, so when you cross it, you can't see the enemy. Huge bosses can also block your view. - Key bindings: I don't understand what player would think this is a convenient way to control your characters. However, you can get used to it over time. - Bugs: I had to reload the last checkpoint or wait until enemy hit got me out of place where I was stuck. I experienced most of the bugs in the second half of the game. - Saves: Bonfires serve as checkpoints, where you can save your progress. However, unlike souls games, your progress isn't saved in any other way. So if you quit the game without saving it first, you lose everything. - Journal: It's cool that you can learn more about the characters, but there is no navigation or description of the current quest, so when you come back to the game after a while, you have to figure out what your next task is. - Grinding: Enemies respawn every time you come back to the location and sometimes you have no choice but to kill them again, because they block the path. But that doesn't mean you won't have to grind for materials and exp.. trust me, you will. - Boss fights: Don't compare it to souls games. Bosses are strong, but the combat is tedious and stupid. The Last Unicorn has many flaws and at the beginning it was hard not to quit the game. The combat is challenging, but as you level up, you get stronger and it gets a little easier. Midway through the game I found myself enjoying it, but only because I'd come to terms with its flaws. I also kind of accepted the fact that the NPC's sent me to explore the whole map again.. and again.. and again. You basically run back and forth, unlocking next areas of the map one step at a time. There is some kind of fast travel, but you can get only to one place. I understand why this game has such a low rating, but if you don't look for AAA game and you want to remember the old days when games were more challenging, maybe you forgive its flaws and enjoy it. Buy only with discount. However, The Last Unicorn has many negatives and I can't recommend it.
why are there so many buttons mapped to attacking i just wanted to explore
The Reviews are right this game sucks, it's painful to play past part 2 of 20 parts (looking at playthrough on youtube) It looks very pretty though.
Not entirely thrilled with the game. I was hoping for better, but this is just awful. Originally, I thought this game came out back when Silent Hill and Resident Evil started, and that was my excuse for the cruddy camera angles. Took me back to the early 2000s but this was a game made in 2019! The combat is horrible, and was so frustrating, that I uninstalled the game. Rating 1/10 Do not recommend.
