Eternal Man: Village, developed by eProdigy and published by advocatus, is a small indie survival horror game that emphasizes tension, evasion, and resource management within a compact and straightforward gameplay structure. Rather than attempting to deliver a large narrative-driven horror adventure, the game focuses on a minimalist design where players must navigate a cursed village while avoiding supernatural threats. The experience is intentionally simple, offering a short but suspenseful challenge built around exploration and survival mechanics. The story centers on Charles, a man whose quiet village has fallen victim to a mysterious curse that has transformed the once peaceful community into a dangerous and hostile environment. Former villagers now roam the area as eerie, unpredictable figures, leaving Charles isolated in a place that was once his home. While the game does not delve deeply into the background of the curse or provide extensive narrative exposition, the premise establishes a bleak setting in which survival becomes the primary objective. Charles must explore the village, searching for hidden items while avoiding the cursed inhabitants who wander through the darkened streets and pathways. Gameplay revolves around exploration and stealth rather than combat. Players move through the village environment while searching for eggs scattered across the map, which serve as the main objective required to complete a run. The layout of the village encourages careful navigation, as enemies patrol the area and can quickly become dangerous if the player is detected. Since the game does not allow players to fight back directly, survival depends entirely on avoiding these threats and escaping when necessary. A major aspect of the gameplay involves managing limited resources. The player has access to a flashlight that illuminates the dark surroundings, but its battery power is finite and must be used carefully. At the same time, the character’s stamina determines how long they can sprint to escape danger. Running is often necessary when enemies appear nearby, but using stamina too aggressively can leave the player unable to flee when it matters most. This balance between visibility, movement, and endurance adds a layer of strategy to the experience despite the simplicity of the mechanics. The enemies themselves function primarily as persistent threats rather than complex opponents. They wander through the village unpredictably, forcing players to remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times. When spotted, these cursed villagers pursue the player relentlessly, creating moments of tension as the player attempts to escape through the dark pathways of the village. Because there is no combat system, encounters with enemies become intense chase sequences where the player must rely on quick reactions and knowledge of the environment to survive. Visually, Eternal Man: Village adopts a minimalistic presentation that reflects its indie development scale. The environment consists of dark village landscapes illuminated mostly by the player’s flashlight, with simple structures and narrow paths that contribute to the feeling of confinement and vulnerability. The darkness plays a significant role in building the game’s atmosphere, as players can only see a limited portion of their surroundings at any given time. This restricted visibility adds to the sense of uncertainty and danger while exploring the cursed village. The sound design also contributes to the game’s tense atmosphere. Instead of relying heavily on dramatic music, the game focuses on ambient audio cues such as distant footsteps, environmental noises, and sudden sounds that signal the presence of nearby enemies. These subtle audio elements help maintain suspense throughout the exploration. When an enemy begins to chase the player, the shift in sound design creates a sudden spike in tension that reinforces the urgency of escaping the encounter. One of the more unusual aspects of Eternal Man: Village is its massive achievement system. The game includes an extremely large number of unlockable Steam achievements, many of which can be earned simply by spending time in the game or performing small actions. This feature has drawn attention among players who enjoy collecting achievements, as it allows them to unlock a large number of accomplishments quickly. However, some players view this system as excessive, since many of the achievements are not tied to particularly meaningful gameplay challenges. The overall length of the game is relatively short. Once players become familiar with the mechanics and layout of the village, a successful run can often be completed in a brief amount of time. Because of this, the game functions more as a quick horror challenge rather than a full-length adventure. The limited scope means that the experience does not evolve significantly over multiple sessions, and the gameplay loop remains largely the same each time the player starts a new run. This simplicity can be both a strength and a weakness. On one hand, the straightforward mechanics make the game easy to understand and accessible to players who want a short survival horror experience without complex systems to learn. On the other hand, the lack of variety and progression means that the gameplay may begin to feel repetitive after only a few sessions. Players who prefer deeper horror games with extensive storytelling or evolving gameplay systems may find the experience somewhat limited. Despite its modest design, Eternal Man: Village still manages to deliver moments of genuine tension. The combination of darkness, limited resources, and relentless enemies creates a sense of vulnerability that captures the core feeling of survival horror. While it may not reach the depth or polish of larger horror titles, it demonstrates how simple mechanics can still produce suspenseful gameplay when used effectively. Overall, Eternal Man: Village is best understood as a small experimental horror project rather than a full-scale survival horror game. Its focus on atmosphere, evasion, and resource management provides a brief but occasionally intense experience that may appeal to players looking for a quick horror challenge. Although its simplicity and short length limit its long-term appeal, it still offers a tense and atmospheric journey through a cursed village. Rating: 6/10
