Update after the major patch: There are more rooms now that rarely repeat. Although barrels and conveyer belts add details to the room, they still feel a bit empty. However, you don't spend a lot of time in them because gameplay is still fast. New addition are trap rooms with flying saws, but these are very easy to dodge. New stages and characters are also welcome; now there are only five stages with an end boss so you can't loop the game forever. The only problematic might be the last stage; it has a weird pattern on the floor that makes my eyes hurt. Success still depends on luck and items still don't have information about what they do. Although shooting works fine, the game has basic rooms, only a few enemy types, and powerful items. You can select from a variety of characters, each having a unique weapon as well as damage, health, and other stats. Of course, you can only select the basic character first because everyone else is locked. Although some seem different, they all play the same way. The only controls you need are movement, dash, and the left mouse button to fire. Each run starts with a random object. These items provide a variety of benefits, like faster firing speed, more damage, and many other features present in any similar game. The game takes you through enemy encounters that take place in an empty square room. Enemies can drop both coins and health. After you've defeated all enemies, you can enter the door to the next random room. The rooms aren't exactly random because they're chosen from a list of pre-determined rooms. This means you will encounter the same rooms multiple times throughout the same run. After the tenth room, you receive another random item or a weapon to make things a little easier. You may also find yourself in a shop where you can purchase items with coins. Because one enemy may be grinded for health and coins, the game avoids this by limiting the number of coins you can carry. You'll need everything you can find since the game is difficult. There are numerous different enemies, and they all move quickly. Death often feels cheap because fast enemies drain all of your health through contact damage. Another major issue is health and energy canisters, which give all enemies healing and faster attacks. You have limited options until the canisters are destroyed. On the other hand, it’s possible to break the game with powerful items. One of the best things you can get are ghost bullets that go through everything. Because you can fire through walls, most rooms become extremely easy trials. And when I added auto-cannon, machine-gun perk, and damage, I cleared a room in seconds. However, this can be ruined in rare cases if you take a new item. The problem is that you don't know what the item does, and new items always comes first. For example, a new but inferior double-bullet perk can replace the old but extremely beneficial machine-gun perk. At round 20, a boss awaits. When you defeat it and enter the elevator, you will respawn in a different location, although the rooms will have the same enemy patterns. You can keep going for as long as you can because the locations will loop. However, you can end the run by killing the shopkeeper and getting a tape that transports you to a secret boss. Compared to similar games, this one is overpriced for the stuff it offers. The graphics are simple and monotonous, there are no "meta" upgrades, and shooting can be broken with overpowered items.
An early access, but undeniably well designed rogue-lite. I was slightly worried at first that this game would be kind of shallow, given its very direct progression and janky movement, but one multi-hour session later I was happy to learn how that wasn't true. This game has a dash mechanic, but movement isn't the core focus. Learning the game's secrets, the enemies patterns, and the item's interactions is crucial to this game as it should be in most roguelikes. There is no tutorial or guide, so expect to be confused your first couple of runs, but even in early access Error 259 shows incredible promise.
HELL YEAH BRO THIS GAME IS IT. FR THOUGH ALMOND WATER SUCKS AND I HATE IT WITH MY LIFE, TURRETS MADE ME TURN INTO THE JOKER AND ALWAYS AND I MEAN ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT BEFORE YOU DIE. KILL. THE. SHOPKEEPER.
fine game
Most amazing game I have ever played!
Hi! The dev of Error 259 here, I just wanted to say thank you all so much for playing and for giving me so much helpful feedback with things to add, fix, and change to make a better and more enjoyable experience when playing! You are an amazing community and I am so grateful for every single one of you! Thank you all again for everything, -Stefano_Gaming
Error 259 is a fast-paced, ever growing roguelike that contains all the wonderful charm that indie games should. The controls are incredibly user friendly and easy to pick up on. The game itself is incredibly rewarding as you can learn from previous mistakes and form your own unique strategies to take on the wide variety of enemies, using builds, the environment, and player movement to cover, dodge, and attack enemies. It also is extremely satisfying to unlock new playable characters as well as skins for them. Each player character feels unique and has distinct art, coloring, and abilities that really truly changes the feel of the play style, while still staying true to the familiarity of the controls and items. The varieties of floors and enemies are refreshing, and the boss fights are an equal amount of challenge and fun. The game has high replay-ability due to the seemingly never ending synergies where one item can either make you extremely overpowered or get you killed depending on your build. Perhaps one of the most important things about Error 259 is the dev and community. The dev is consistently putting in work to fix bugs and add new content, and is extremely dedicated to allowing the community’s input for new items, new character ideas, new enemies, new bosses, you name it. This gives the game a very cozy, down to earth feel, as it’s easy to connect with games that allow player input so freely. The community has been incredibly kind, positive, and welcomes newcomers with open arms, which is endearing and wholesome in a world where toxicity runs so prevalent. I highly recommend Error 259 to any gamer, as it has a little bit of something for everyone. Lore, cute animals, variety of player characters, action, comedy, opportunities for social networking.
I haven't gotten very far into it yet, but I can definitely see myself playing this game for hourssss. I like the cute little rooms that serve no purpose other than being cute, like the conveyor belts that deliver coins and the enemies stuck on a conveyor belt that just drop into a hole and die. If you like Binding of Isaac, you'll like this game :) my one complaint is that some of the enemies attacks are a bit hard to dodge, like the Crusher Bot randomly spawns falling rocks that are hard to avoid and give no indication where they're falling, and the I guess ray gun enemies shoot pretty fast for early game, it's hard to avoid and aim at the same time but it also might be a skill issue on my part :P Edit: It was definitely a skill issue on my part :fireemoji:
heh. its pretty good. get twigs as fast as you can and only use him. heh.
Error 259 is a wonderful, yet criminally underrated roguelike! The entire game gives off such a refreshing kind of charm, you really don't see unique games like this nowadays! The art is great, the gameplay loop is fun, yet simple, and every run really does feel different. It's a bit difficult to pick up and get used to, but once you do, it's difficult to put down. Please, PLEASE buy this! Update: Game is sadly no longer being updated. As much as it sucks, the Dev has moved on to greener pastures. Doesn't mean you still shouldn't play what's already here, though. Update 2: THE GAME IS BACK OH MY LORD IT'S BACK IT'S BEING UPDATED AGAIN OH MY GOD
