Enoch – Underground is a hardcore action-RPG. The player takes control of the awakened – one of the few survivors left in the city. Lost and forgotten, he finds himself in catacombs. Without goal and without memories he starts his way through the ruins striving to find his place in this hostile world.

I guess you can describe this game as poorly made Dark Souls with Diablo’s camera. Weird angle for a direct-control game like this. The camera either lets you cheat and see the enemies in the adjacent rooms, or doesn’t let you see getting yourself murdered. The combat is not satisfying, you don’t feel the impact of your attacks, the weapons have strange and inconvenient movesets. Most enemies in the game are boring zombies and similarly boring human opponents. The difficulty is all over the place - it’s “click LMB repeatedly to win” for zombies and spiders and “evade attacks for 5 minutes waiting for a good opening and then die from 1 hit” for humans. The best way to fight them is just circling around and baiting them into doing combos and then counterattacking. Using a shield and dodge rolls doesn’t seem very necessary or helpful. The enemies are placed rather unimaginatively in seemingly random places so there are no interesting fights or unexpected ambushes. The AI reacts as you come within certain distance of them and there’s a clear path to the player (they don’t care about line of sight and will come for you through the entire level). This distance is the same for all enemies, so the best strategy is to carefully creep up on monster groups to aggro them one by one (fighting several human enemies at once is pretty much suicide). There’s a lot of enemies in the game and killing them takes a bit of time, so clearing a level is an utterly tedious process. There are some special monsters that are marginally more interesting to deal with, but there’s only a handful of them in the game. If you die, you have to start the level from the beginning (there are no saves or checkpoints) and all the enemies and consumables respawn, though you keep the loot you’ve found, and the treasure chests stay opened. At times I was forced to kill myself repeatedly so I could get a bunch of healing items to make it further. There are shortcuts you can open to bypass some areas of the levels, but they are far enough apart that you have many opportunities to die and may need to replay certain parts over and over again (not fun). There’s no leveling up and not a whole lot of equipment to choose from so the RPG elements are lacking. Weapons of the same types have the same movesets and differ only in damage values. Some weapons have special abilities that you can only use several times during one level, but I didn’t really feel the need to experiment with them (same with accessories). It appears that some weapon types are more effective against certain enemies, but I was primarily using axes, because I was most comfortable with the axe attack pattern. You can find shops and buy\sell things, but you find enough good stuff in chests anyway (also, I don’t think I made enough money throughout the entire game to afford the best armor in the shop). Enemies only drop money, healing items and sometimes keys. The levels themselves are more or less linear and aren’t very exciting - a sewer, a dungeon, a city, none of which are visually interesting or fun to explore. There’re only a few levels and the game itself is kinda short (would be even shorter without all the restarting and retrying), but it is more of a blessing since it’s such a chore to get through it. There’s some lore and story in the game available in scattered notes you find throughout the levels. None of it is interesting, and I couldn’t be arsed to piece it together. The only good part of the story is the intro cutscene. Not a terrible game, but mediocre and not very fun to play.
Have you ever wondered what an incomplete game feels like? This would be it. So, I managed to squeeze about 90 minutes of this game into a live stream with my veiwers as we all got a first look at Enoch and right off the bat, a few things popped out as a lack of polishing or QA on the game. 1. Had to dramatically reduce graphics to be able to not slideshow on stream 2. Everything was in English, but the grammar and sentence structures were questionable 3. Sound turned off in menus and when reading "scrolls" in game Now you may say that the first part does not matter, but if you set up your streaming software correctly, no setting in game should effect the way it is mirrored to the stream. What I see, is exactly what my viewers should see. That leads to questions in optimizing graphics and why it would cause issues. It was also noticed that even on medium settings (where slideshows stopped) lighting caused stuttering in game. Now on the bright side of things, the premise of the game is not bad. We couldn't get into the story enough to see if there was one, and the combat system is tough. When encountering enmies you can't just randomly flail about. You have to conserve stamina and attack or dodge, though if you do get hit, there are health potions everywhere. I also would have loved to see some type of loot drop... even if it was just crappy weapons that dropped. I would have loved to have grabbed that flail off one of the enemies I killed that was wielding it. Outside of those few things, I would not recommend this game to anyone unless the devs came back to it to clean things up. It's an unfinished product that need smore attention.
Overall the game has a good idea, but lacks on quite a view places, the lack of a mini map is one of my bug bares, no leveling system just does not feel right, the mechanics are a bit boring, you just wait till human adds make an action of three attacks then you hit them and back of till their dead, the same goes for the other adds, you hit them back of, them hit them again and so on, even if there is no mini map at least they could give a manual save, the graphics are ok but nothing special, the game overall feels souless and the mini map i can't get over. yes make it hardcore like dark souls etc, but let us know where we are, i hate doing this but this game i can only give 4/10
Akzeptable grafik, aber fürchterliches gameplay, ein Spiel mit Dauertod, uninterresant. Hütet euch. 2 von 10.
Долго ждал релиз, ребята, спасибо за игру.
Die Grafik könnte besser sein...
