About

Endless Sky is a 2D space trading and combat game inspired by the classic Escape Velocity series. Work your way up from a relatively wimpy shuttle, cargo ship, or fighter, to a highly upgraded and customized flagship. Grow your fleet while exploring an expansive galaxy with hundreds of systems. Earn money by carrying passengers or cargo, escorting convoys, bounty hunting, mining asteroids, or plundering and capturing enemy ships.

Enter the 31st century and choose from one of multiple starting locations and backgrounds where you set out on your own journey as the captain of a new ship. Take sides in a civil war, or ignore the story line and just enjoy exploring the galaxy at your own pace. The main story line alone takes about 8-16 hours to play through, with over a hundred hours worth of story content spread across the galaxy in the form of other story lines both big and small.

The game's content can be added to using the plugin system, which allows anyone with a text editor and a paint program to create new ships, weapons, missions, and more to the game. All of the game's content is built using the same system, so anything you see in the vanilla game can be done in a plugin. The capabilities of plugins are fully documented on our GitHub wiki.

Endless Sky is free, open source, and cross platform (Windows, Mac, and Linux). The game has been developed for over 10 years as a labor of love from hundreds of volunteer contributors. Updates occur regularly with three major updates every year. Over time, the game will continue to expand as contributors add new missions, story lines, alien species, places to explore, sound effects, artwork, gameplay mechanics, quality-of-life improvements, and more.

A good game, though the controls are hard to master.
Exploring the galaxy is really fun, Combat is too fast and can be easily cheesed with numbers. Playing a space trucker is fun too.
Game is already free as a 0.1.2 version so I checked the box but this was not a compensated endorsement. The game is so good it doesn't need an endorsement. Just play it! If you're of my generation and played the Ambrosia Software series of Escape Velocity games for Mac back in the day, this is the clone. Yes you can still play EV Nova, Classic and Override (there's an official discord for those), but this is a modern interface and the same idea. 2D top-down space combat. Infinite game, good missions, good progression, death does not "nuke" your progress you can just start over, and lots of customization. Love love love!

I really really tried to like this game, and sometimes I did. However, when the game keeps getting updated via changing the story a gazililion times, breaking important missions, and adding missions that don't even work that forever buggs your save file no matter how you change it, that gets very annoying very fast. I want to play a game that works and is tried and true, not a game that constantly rebrands itself and breaks each time you have a new character. Every now and then I liked to make a new game just to relive the story, and see what has been "added" not changed to already current stories. Little did I know that certain races had their missions changed and others were completely reworked. This caused some bugging to my game which caused other campaigns to be compromised. There is "save editing" via your %appdata% file, but this doesn't always work despite being very familiar with it. I wish there was a "neutral" option, but I'm going to give thumbsdown to let others know who are interested in this game that its often a buggy mess, but has good story when it isn't. Also the combat is very bland, not terrible, just bland. You will do lots of maths to figure out what works and what doesn't. That part is fun, but when you find the best stuff and keep abusing it, then it gets boring. Forty (give or take) ships of basically anything kills absolutely anything else, no matter how bad those ships are, or how good the ones they are facing. Not always true, but more often times than not it usually is. Especially if they are long ranged speedy ships which are also super tanky and have stupid DPS. Very fun at first, but then every fight is incredibly boring after a while when you realize, "Oh, I'm unstoppable now, but it isn't fun anymore." Just an opinion on everything, but be warned if your game breaks and no amount of google searching fixes your problem. 6/10
Of all the games I've played on PC (MacOS), Endless Sky is the only one I've played through at least a dozen times. And I'm still learning new ways of playing, including fleet management and new planets to discover. Anyone who played EV as much as I did, you'll love this game.
love it
ce jeu est un puit sans fond de lore et d'histoires incroyables
A nice and interesting game, resembles Space Rangers
Captures the spirit of the classic Escape Velocity series, but with a lot of QoL improvements and streamlining (e.g. better jump plotting, and you don't need to buy fuel). Storylines are *fine*. There don't appear to be many different branches to follow, you basically either do a storyline or you don't (as opposed to choosing sides in a big conflict and having different options following that). Kind of a pro in that you don't have to miss out on anything in a single playthrough, but makes decisions seems a little superfluous.
Simply put, it's probably the best community made game ever made.
