[i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Kiryu, Chikage & Yukinojo -[/i] is an otome, fantasy adventure visual novel developed by UNICO INC. and published by Voltage Inc. Now, here's where I'd normally go into the summary of the story and then the gameplay. However, since I previously played [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Miabyi, Kyoga & Samon -[/i] and both the story premise and gameplay are the same, I'll just save a bit of time by referring to my review of it [url=https://steamcommunity.com/id/calliestar/recommended/2200170/]here[/url]. Of course, the only differences are that you're given one of the following three guys to romance (after playing through the prologue once): Kiryu (the ryu dragon), Chikage (the tengu crow), or Yukinojo (the yukibito, a snow spirit). Also, only in Kiryu's route, there's the twisted wedding arch story in the third season. Now, this might escape those who aren't aware that this PC version is based on the mobile version, but the original mobile version also has Shinrya, the oni demon, as a romance route. However, I believe he was left out of the PC version because unlike the others, he doesn't have a season three story. Other than what I mentioned, there are no other differences, so if you're reading this review without having read my review of [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Miabyi, Kyoga & Samon -[/i], there is a link to it for reference.
Now I'll move onto my thoughts and such. After having played and enjoyed [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Miabyi, Kyoga & Samon -[/i], I was eager to play [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Kiryu, Chikage & Yukinojo -[/i]. I liked these guys in the other game although, of course, they weren't romance options. Since my thoughts on the story overall are the same, I'll go over my thoughts on the guys and their routes. First, I played Kiryu's route. [spoiler]Being aware that on other routes, Kiryu doesn't appear until the second season, I was wondering how he was going to become an available option for the MC early on. This doesn't get explained until I got access to Kiryu's POV after having finished the main story for season one, but upon learning about events from Kiryu's perspective, then things made sense, and I liked how this was handled. I liked the interactions between Kiryu and the MC, particularly once they become closer after Kiryu learns that the MC was his first fan of his writing. If I had to point out any negatives, it's that early on, Kiryu's all about doing what his clan wants and just wants to get things over with. Also, out of all the different clans, it felt like the ryu dragon clan was the most prejudiced against the MC (and humans, in general). Of course, this changes over time, but it was quite the shock.[/spoiler]
Next, I played Yukinojo's route. [spoiler]Initially, Yukinojo is the nice, friendly guy who gives the MC advice on other routes. However, if you choose his route, when he and the MC are alone, he tries to assault the MC because he wants to get her pregnant. However, once he sees the MC crying, then that's where he stops. He ends up being apologetic, and even though it's slow going, he does eventually change his ways. It's even explained why he was initially aggressive, and it has to do with his past with another human. Of course, he still doesn't have the right to do such a thing to the MC. Also, the yukibito clan is quite prejudiced against the MC (like with the ryu clan although maybe a little bit less so) although this does change. In addition, I felt that the MC was my least favorite out of all the routes here because she tends to be quite weak and submissive. Although I do like the changes that Yukinojo undergoes (there are even a couple of moments where I cried), it was probably my least favorite route.[/spoiler]
Finally, there's Chikage's route. [spoiler]I think I saved the best route (for me, personally) for last. Although Chikage comes off as indifferent, at least, he doesn't try to physically hurt the MC. However, as tengu clan head, he wants to fulfill his duty to have a child with the MC, so that his clan would become the most powerful. I really like the MC best in this route since she's more headstrong and at one point, she decides that she'd rather be put in danger than be forced to have a child without there being any love. It might not be the safest decision, but I like that the MC has her beliefs like that. Anyway, Chikage does end up changing for the better, thanks to the MC, and his heart opens up to her. It's a process for Chikage since he's never thought of love before the MC, so it's quite a journey to observe him and how he becomes softer and more open. Also, I love the presence of Chikage's apprentice, Koten. He's a sweet tengu child whom Chikage is mentoring, and Koten is so adorable. He loves the MC like a mom, and it even gets to a point where Chikage can't help being jealous. lol I just wish that there had been a CG or two with Koten, so that I could show off how cute he is. XD[/spoiler]
As I didn't mention this in my other review, I'll briefly touch on my thoughts about the MC. I found it interesting how the MC's behavior and actions adjust depending on which route she's on. For example, [spoiler]the MC is the most relaxed on Kyoga's and Samon's routes, so there isn't conflict between her and the guys[/spoiler]. Of course, I liked the MC on some routes more than others. As I mentioned in my previous paragraph, I liked the MC the least on [spoiler]Yukinojo's route[/spoiler]. As to which MC I like the best, I mentioned this, too, and that would be on [spoiler]Chikage's route[/spoiler].
On my thoughts on the writing, they're pretty much the same as in my other review. There are grammatical errors although all the lines were translated into English this time. The script could probably use a couple of editing/proofreading passes by a native English speaker, but the story is understandable. As for my thoughts on the art and music, again, they're the same as in my other review. The only minor criticism I'd make is that I felt like in some of Chikage's CGs, his sprite didn't quite match with his normal sprite. In the CGs, it seemed like Chikage looked slightly older compared to his normal sprite, but that might be just me.
Overall, would I recommend [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Kiryu, Chikage & Yukinojo -[/i]? If you enjoy hot, spicy otome VNs and especially enjoyed [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Miabyi, Kyoga & Samon -[/i], then most likely, you'll enjoy this, too. I do have to give a heads up that this one has [spoiler]somewhat more disturbing scenes, as I mentioned earlier, and like in the other game, there are sex scenes although they're confined to the writing as well as some nudity, mainly confined to the guys' chests[/spoiler]. Despite the more roller coaster, dramatic scenes, I enjoyed [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight - Kiryu, Chikage & Yukinojo -[/i] just as much. For the asking price, I'd say it's worth getting, as it took me a little over 46 hours to finish all of the routes, get all of the endings, etc. It's especially worth it to get both [i]Enchanted in the Moonlight[/i] visual novels, so you get to experience all of the available guys' routes, each of whom have their own unique stories and journeys with the MC.
Finally, again, I'd like to give a major thanks to Voltage Inc. for the review copy, and I enjoyed the drama and romance that each guy brought. I'm looking forward to playing more visual novels from this publisher, and I hope to have the opportunity to do so. ^^
