About
Dive into Enarian Online, a rich text-based Action RPG that blends the depth and imagination of classic MUDs with the relentless progression and build-driven gameplay of modern ARPGs. Inspired by ARPG and MMORPG genre giants, Enarian proves that text is not a limitation, it is a strength. Every line of description, every combat message, and every item drop is crafted to spark your imagination and keep you fully engaged.
In Enarian Online, you are torn from your home realm and cast into a strange, broken world. You awaken within the Aetherian Spire, a vast and damaged nexus that once safeguarded the balance between realms. Around you is a small survivor camp, home to guardians, healers, and warriors who are bound to the spire.
At the centre of the disaster lies the shattered Heartstone, a powerful relic that once stabilized the realms. Its fragments scattered across distant lands, warping them and drawing corruption in their wake. The portal within the spire still functions, but imperfectly. Each time it opens, it leads to a fractured realm, drawn toward a Heartstone shard.
Your task is simple, and dangerous. Enter these realms, defeat the evil that has claimed the fragment, and return stronger than before. Each success brings you closer to restoring the Heartstone and, perhaps, finding a way home.
Enarian is played through a custom client designed specifically to support fast, readable, action-focused gameplay. Instead of scrolling walls of text, the interface presents structured combat, highlighted ability effects, clear target information, and responsive feedback that mirrors the pacing of a traditional ARPG.
Health, mana, buffs, de-buffs, abilities, pets, and enemies are all displayed in a way that lets you make decisions quickly. Combat reads clearly at a glance, allowing you to track damage spikes, status effects, and ability timing without breaking immersion. This focused UI turns text into a powerful gameplay tool rather than a passive wall of information.
Choose from multiple distinct classes, each with its own identity, strengths, and ability themes. Your class loosely defines how you fight, how you survive, and how you grow.
Warrior
Frontline combatants built for raw physical power and resilience. Warriors excel with heavy weapons, strong defences, and abilities that reward standing toe-to-toe with enemies.
Rogue
Agile and deadly, Rogues focus on speed, evasion, and precision. They excel at exploiting weaknesses, applying debilitating effects, and striking before enemies can respond.
Mage
Masters of elemental magic, Mages wield fire, cold, and arcane power to devastate enemies from range. Their abilities emphasize control, burst damage, and battlefield manipulation.
Necromancer
Practitioners of forbidden arts who command life and death. Necromancers drain enemies, raise undead allies, and use dark magic to overwhelm foes through attrition and control.
Paladin
Holy warriors who combine martial strength with divine power. Paladins balance offense, defence, and support through protective magic and righteous punishment.
Each class gains access to a growing pool of abilities as you progress, unlocked through scrolls found in the world. All abilities can be learned and used by any class, allowing for deep experimentation and unconventional builds, but abilities aligned with your chosen class, gain additional bonuses such as increased damage, reduced mana cost, and enhanced effects. Your build is shaped not only by class, but by how you combine abilities, equipment, and rune reforging to create a playstyle that is uniquely your own.
Your characters race further defines your character, providing passive stat bonuses and a unique racial ability that scales as you grow stronger.
Human
Versatile and adaptable, humans gain balanced stat growth and a flexible racial ability suited to many playstyles.
Elf
Graceful and attuned to magic and nature, elves gain bonuses to intelligence and dexterity, along with a restorative racial ability.
Drow
Shadow-dwelling dark elves who favour intellect and cunning. Their racial ability focuses on draining vitality and sustaining themselves in prolonged fights.
Orc
Fierce and resilient warriors driven by strength and constitution. Orcs excel in brutal combat and gain an aggressive racial ability.
Goblin
Quick-witted and dangerous despite their size, goblins favour dexterity and strength, backed by a volatile defensive racial ability.
Dwarf
Stout, hardy folk famed for their unmatched skill in mining, forging, and stonecraft, with a deep loyalty to kin and tradition.
Modern ARPG combat in a text-driven world
A dynamic blend of optional auto-casting and manual abilities keeps combat fast, tactical, and reactive.

I’ve been hooked on Enarian Online. It is a text-based MUD, but it runs on a custom Windows client with health bars and skill icons, so combat feels way faster and cleaner than old-school text games. There are 5 starting classes, but you can multi-class by finding scrolls to mix and match over 100 different skills, which makes the theory-crafting and build variety insane. Between the 9 different realms, procedural maps, player trading, and the endgame Alternative Advancement system, there is a ton of depth here for a loot grinder. If you want a deep indie RPG that values mechanics over flashy graphics, definitely give this one a shot.
Is good game, you buy.
Goat of the Steam Next Fest for sure. After 40 hours of demo still funny to play
Been having fun with the game. Yeah there are some design & UI elements that are confusing or frustrating, but there's a lot of cool stuff too. If you like this type of game, definitely give it a try.
Haven't dabbled since Arctic way back in the day, its a neat little blast from the past-ish.
I wanted to like this game, but I ultimately can't recommend it in its current state. Another review described it as "vibe-coded," and I think that's an accurate assessment. The foundation feels weak. It seems like the game was built from the top down rather than from the bottom up, and it shows in the fundamentals. Basic systems don't function reliably. One of the first bugs I encountered involved a locked chest. I was able to open it anyway, receive randomized loot and gold, close it, reopen it, and receive another set of randomized rewards. Repeating this indefinitely let me accumulate unlimited loot and gold. I was even able to exceed my character's carrying capacity by hundreds of units without penalty, recall to town, and sell or dismantle everything. I've been programming since I was a teenager, back when learning meant reading books instead of searching the internet. I joined the Discord intending to submit bug reports and a few feature suggestions. The developer was responsive, which I appreciate, but I was surprised by some of the design decisions. For example, the inventory system makes it difficult to reference specific items when it's possible to have hundreds of them. Instead of selecting an item directly, you're expected to identify it by keywords or its full name, which becomes awkward when multiple items share similar names. Since the items are almost certainly stored in a collection with indexes or unique identifiers, allowing players to reference Item #1, #2, or a persistent ID seems like something that should have been considered from the start. The community itself was welcoming. People answered my questions, and one player even helped power-level me, earning me some useful equipment and gold. Unfortunately, the next day the developer migrated the server from the development environment, and I lost most of my equipped items. My Necromancer could no longer summon minions because the gear granting those abilities had disappeared, leaving my character effectively unable to fight. Recovering didn't seem practical. Equipment drops are randomized, the shop mostly contained items sold by high-level players, and the auction house was filled with gear intended for characters around level 50. I created a new character so I could continue playing, but by that point I'd lost the motivation. I considered opening a support ticket or suggesting safeguards against this kind of issue, but I couldn't shake the feeling that these are problems that should have been anticipated. Overall, this feels more like a very early alpha than a commercial release. The game currently consists of a small town hub with a handful of interactable locations, connected to procedurally generated 2D maps that occasionally fail to generate properly, requiring you to regenerate the portal. There are group features like auto-attack, defend, and follow, but even while following the highest-level player on the server, who was defending against every attack, I was killed multiple times. After losing my equipment, my original character became effectively unusable. If you're interested in this style of game, I'd recommend waiting until this one has had more time to mature. In the meantime, I'd suggest looking at Procedural Realms, which appears to have inspired many of the same ideas while offering a more complete experience for free.
Great to see a MUD game on the scene.
Fun MUD bringing back memories of times gone by with great QoL features, like maps and health bars, portals and click to move, attack etc. give it a shot if you like MUDs and RPGs
yes
Discovered this game over Next Fest and was hooked. I am not a seasoned MUD player, but this was easy enough to get into. For such a niche game, the dev has nailed it. The discord is extremely active as well. Dev is quick to respond to bug issues, and implement feature requests! You can feel the passion, and experience from long-established MUDs, in ever facet of this game. I highly recommend this game; Whether you're a vet to the genre, or just dipping your toes into the world of text-based games.
