Warning, it just doesn't work well with win10, even with 'tweaks' it still crashes randomly during combat. No answer from the dev, no other "fix' found. Uninstalled regretablly.
edit: 10 more hours: I tried to give it a 2nd chance & with that legacy 'old game' app it still crashes too often after winning a battle. Not fun, especially with the janky as hell screen resolution issue when the game ctd. Feb 2021, win10 : my game is crashing all the time. Seems I need to install some legacy window stuff that was discontinued to get it working. After 2 hours & 3 maps with barely any sort of meaningful carry over from previous missions its feeling like a chore.
Decent game that could have been a good game if it had a bit more polish. - After exiting the game from full screen, any windows for other program I had open are all resized and crammed into the upper-left of the screen. - The pacing and difficulty are way off. After about 10 turns or so, there are multiple zones with a HEAVY zombie presence. You MIGHT have been able to unlock a second crew slot by then. MIGHT. Unlocks are ridiculously expensive, especially for crystals. The dev added "relaxed" mode to help with this a little. - Unless you go hard towards production, it will be nigh impossible to keep a supply of defenses, and they get completely wiped when those massive hordes attack. - There's no way (via mission or task) to attack zombie zones for the purpose of thinning them out. You either try to conquer the zone or you ignore it. - The random events are not classified for early/mid/late game. What's the point of getting an event on turn 2 asking for 200+ crystals when it's not even possible?!? - If you lose one of your crew, especially one that's gained some levels, you may as well start over....because you also just lost their sweet gear. - Not being able to select all three saved campaign items seems dumb. - The game hasn't been patched or worked on since 2017, so consider it abandoned.
The game is unplayable on windows 10, due to a crash after combat that occurs 50% of the battles for me. a game should not be unplayable and not supported 3 years after release, the dev should either fix it, or have the decency to remove it from the store since it can't be played on a new OS.
This game gets old really quick. Its not that terrible but the same simple mechanics over and over again along all the stages that have small challenges for you to complete.. its just boring. It has small RPG elements but the fact that you have to start over from almost zero makes it really hard to care. The bonuses you unlock as you complete stages are nice but not enough, I think that's what this game is for me, its good but not enough. Still, I gotta stick with it for completion's sake and its so grindy.. I guess I could just manipulate a small level to have everything controlled and then just grind the turns until the 3 million credits or the 200k crystals, etc.. are earned.. but I get so bored, I cant play it for more than 30 minutes now. The Tech Tree is bare bones, it looks like you could find different playstyles but in the end, it comes out to the same strategy over and over again so you can quickly move on to the same cookie-cutter city. The enemies are the best thing in the game, they are really varied and each has its own thing, I cant say the same for the weapons, each tier of the same weapon is the same thing but with slightly better stats and even if you find a unique, awesome weapon, you cant take it with you, not that it would help since your characters have to start from level 1 each time. Anyway, the game is not terrible, oh yeah, Ive played terrible games, this one, after a few hours, is just.. meh. I just felt this game wasnt for me, idk, I cant recommend it, it's so boring and to me feels like a chore more then a game. Emerge gets 6 flaming zombies out of 23 "oh no, all your barricades got damaged somehow" :/
Some nostalgia around this game - I played the demo in 2016 during my younger years. This was the first 4X I got really sucked into, more so than Civilization games (at that time). And I do like its isometric artstyle. However on revisit, I did not enjoy it as much. Very likely because I suck and I spread out my research points, but things got repetitive fast while also getting overwhelmed my enemies. Realtime sections were a chord (and AI wasn't much better either). With another sequel, maybe it could've turned out a better game.
Yeah, don't bother. Cons: -Awful menu designs - many lacking any way to back up, causing you to be locked into making a choice after clicking an icon. It's very unintuitive overall. -Game does not close from the in-program menus. To get it to close, I have to use task manager to decapitate Emerge about a dozen times to get the damn thing to die. -While I can stomach the low resolution and low quality visuals, the main offender with visuals is that the game does not revert to my preferred display resolution upon FINALLY exiting. Every time I close the game, I'm greeted to a blurry 720p or lower desktop. Pros: -Decent writing with passable character-building. I would have liked to play the game longer and give a more detailed review, but based on the problems above, I already know this is an instant refund.
I'm a few years too late writing a review for this game :( But for anyone that stumbles across this older title I really rate it, for what it is. It's tough, so don't be expecting a cake walk. There are heaps of permanent unlocks, from player classes to boons to make your next run a little easier, and you can take some pieces of equipment with you from the last level. Plenty of different types of zombies, loads of skills and character customisation for the player character and any AI controlled companions. Fun campaign. All in all, for what this title is, it nails it.
Fantastic game. Good mix of turn based strategy like Rebuild and defense fighting like the last stand. Love it!
So the game is simply mediocre mobile type gameplay. But the reason I am giving it a no is that is actually changed my main monitors Resolution to 720p. Even after I closed the game. No game should do that. Easy enough to fix, but that's not the point.
It was fun, not too terribly hard to learn, and I didnt get bored and wander off i a few minutes, which is a big deal for me. It could use more story though.
