good story and fun gameplay.

Fun so far, just got past 25%. I'm a sucker for mobility and i love that its given of rip. This kid is moving like the Tenno. Plenty of platforming and Interactables to give my reptilian mind a little rush. I recommend for a chill weekend, for sure.
DUSKFADE feels like someone found an unreleased PS2 platformer and gave it modern polish. I first played the demo during Steam Next Fest and was immediately impressed. If you grew up with games like Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, or Kingdom Hearts, DUSKFADE captures a lot of what made that era of 3D platformers special without constantly pointing at those games and reminding you of its influences. Six hours in, one of the things that impresses me most is actually the camera. Fighting the camera is one of my biggest complaints with 3D platformers and third-person games in general, and I've had remarkably few moments where that's happened here. The camera stays out of the way and lets me focus on moving through the world. And the movement feels good. The controls are tight, the environments are fun to explore, and the premise gives the game a natural excuse to jump between wildly different biomes without the world feeling completely disconnected. The characters are charming, and the protagonist has a simple, clear, heroic motivation that gives the adventure some heart. Most importantly, I've just had a lot of fun playing it. DUSKFADE doesn't feel like it's trying to parody or constantly reference the PS2-era games that inspired it. It feels like it genuinely belongs alongside them. If you miss that era of 3D platformers, I absolutely recommend giving this one a shot.
The trap of these homage games is that, very often, they don't carve out their own identities. And because of that, they end up just being inferior versions of the games that inspired them. Thankfully, at least from what i've played so far, Duskfade feels like a lot of different PS2 and Gamecube era games in spirit, without outright copying the homework of a single game in particular. It's a mostly linear adventure platformer, and it's in those two aspects where the game really shines. The movement is really responsive, and the game features a lot of challenging optional platforming sections that end with a nice reward. While exploration and platforming are great, the combat is definitely the weakest element. There is very little feedback to your attacks on enemies, to the point where even your powerful attacks don't have any weight. While there is more combat than I would like, there isn't so much that it ruins my experience. I normally play games on the hardest difficulties, but since that seems to only impact combat, I'm sticking with the recommended setting for this one. Oh, and another aspect of combat I don't like is the dialogue of the two main characters after every encounter. It's a very minor critique, but I do wish you could turn that off. Other than that, it's a really fun game that would've fit right in during the 6th generation of consoles.
The movement feels very good from the get go. The game feels fluid and the platforming is well designed. It brings me back to the Jak and Daxter days. The combat is a bit basic, but it is well done for a platformer. I would definitely recommend this game if you love 3D platformers
Almost to 6hrs in and I'm enjoying it however, the combat is not doing it for me. Standard 36 hit combo with some skills/gadgets to help you out but I cant get past the fact that hitting enemies feels like nothing, There's more feedback from hitting random objects in the levels than actually hitting a mob. Platforming and movement feel great otherwise. Story is not really engaging and I haven't found any character that stands out besides Cuckoo and I hate him so so so much!!! Screw that robotic bird! I think there are really good bones here and if it makes it I feel like it would get better with a sequel. 6/10 as of right now. A good little game that reminds me of Jak and Daxter and many other platformers from the era.
Fun game. Story is really bland but the gameplay itself is super chill. Really nice to play something easy and linear after playing lots of difficult games. I will say it does start to get repetitive with the enemies and bosses all having the same patterns so best to play in shorter bursts.
