Duskfade is a beautifully made game with a great, heart-warming story. Challenging platformer mechanics, fun collectibles, and very cute design. Great game!

I was hoping to play this game for a lot longer but after an hour in, and reading some of the reviews, I'm afraid this is where I stop. Let me start by saying I don't think this is a bad game by any means. It's very clear that this game was a labor of love from the presentation and game feel. The game looks gorgeous! Visually this game is a delight, looking like an HD platfomer from the PS2 era in the best way possible. Gameplay is where this game falls flat for me. The controls feel fluid when it comes to platforming. I found in my short time playing that you have a decent variety of movement options. On top of being able to double jump, you have a long jump, and at any time you can follow up your movements with roll to get further distance. I didn't get far enough in to see the extent of how the platforming challenges go, but I found this aspect of the game to be enjoyable. The combat is by far the weakest aspect of the game, and it's the games biggest selling point. I don't want to sit here and make comparisons to Kingdom Hearts simply because it's an inspiration. It's an unfair compare a small indie project to a game maybe by studio in their prime 20 years ago. That being said, this game's combat is boring. When hit, the enemies don't react. It lacks hit-stun needed to make the combat feel like it has real weight behind it. You have a three hit combo on both the air and ground but the aerial hits felt even worse than the ground ones as I would swing once and my character immediately would fall to the ground. Maybe it's due to the small size of the starting enemies but it was a bad look. I wanted to hope that this games combat would improve over time but reading the other reviews here, I find it unlikely. I'd like to give this game another chance but I don't think my issues are something that can be fixed with an update. Even with hit-stun that won't fix the boring combat feel, as the overall game is just too slow to make for a fun action game. I'm really rooting for this studio, and I hope they can make a game I enjoy playing in the future as I think they have potential.
definitely the prettiest game I played this yea
It's okay. I was excited for it to come out for maybe a year or so ahead of time. I'm a lifelong kingdom hearts player. I guess the story of this game is kind of hitting some of those vibes. The gameplay just seems boring. I've been playing for a little bit and I get the sense that the combat and platforming aspects will stay at least very similar to how they are throughout the rest of the game. 'Platform all around this section of the map to access the next path' 'maybe find a chest along the way with currency or an unlock token inside' 'come across a mob of enemies that are easy but tedious to kill'. The boss fights are just going to be about hitting a dodge at the right time, and attacking in the telegraphed window. At least in this point in the game, there's no stagger or anything on the mobs. They'll be 1hp and as I'm finishing my combo they hit me for like 30% of my health. However the 30% of my health doesn't matter because I come across a health potion every 10 feet. It feels like there's no stakes, the combat is basic, the platforming is basic but also some things are not done very well. There will be a platform with 2 exposed sides, and you can only mantle onto one of them, even if you're jumping at the platform from the direction of the non-mantling edge. I'm gonna refund the game because I just don't foresee it getting much more enjoyable from here on out. should have given me a blocking ability or something at least. Anything to spice up the game. But the colors are pretty.
Man this game is amazing. Checks all the boxes of a PS2 classic with modern graphics.
