Duskfade is a representation of everything that is right with modern indie games, a game with charm, a unique story, enjoyable platfroming to the likes of Classic Ratchet & Clank games and a runtime that is not too short nor too long for the asking price. I genuinely really enjoyed this game in all it's aspects, setpiece design was amazing, characters and lore was interesting and unique albeit a bit clichê even though there is absolutely no problem if you take in consideration this can be enjoyed at all ages. This has been a year where I've been investing heavily and buying a bunch of Indie games and this is one where I'd give my definite seal of recommendation. We need more of this!
Great level design and art direction. If you're a fan of Kingdom Hearts and old school action platformers. I definitely recommend this one

As everyone mentions, it is a modern classic RPG. The level design so far has been really good, bosses can be difficult even on Normal, they personally felt a little overtuned on Hard mode but I m ay just be bad. The characters have chatter but it's not overwhelming and the story, granted I only beat world 1, seems like it could be a strong one for what the game is. Combat flows really nicely, parrying doesn't feel overwhelming difficult and it helps so much when you start getting used to it. It has a very Kingdom Hearts UI which I adore however that's sorta where that comparison ends. Overall this is a wonderfully priced and adorable Indie game.

Duskfade is a game about grief and loss and how one can handle that in a positive, negative, and neutral way, and how all of those paths can make a person learn to be better. That part I feel it handles very well. However, the gameplay is built on an okay foundation with not much stacked on top of it. Aside from getting the pendulum, I never felt like combat changed much. The temporal abilities seemed very situational aside from the first one being a short-range shotgun blast. Finally getting the ability that gave me a ranged energy slice on the first hit of a combo made everything feel a lot better, but really the ranged Cuckoo attacks should've just been something I as the player could control and feel better about. Compounding on the mostly lackluster combat is the assortment of enemies that get more annoying instead of more satisfying. Most normal enemy encounters involve a room full of too many enemies to keep track of unless you play on the lower difficulties where the enemies just stand around while attacking you 1 at a time. There's nothing in between those. I played on the Standard recommended difficulty for about 85% of the game until I just decided I wasn't having fun and turned it down. Platforming is mostly solid, but having basic things like the ledge grab or wall jump only usable in specific areas makes things annoying. I must've missed over 200 platforms because the game decided that I couldn't ledge grab there. For the most part I enjoyed the platforming and exploration, but I realized early on that there wasn't much worth searching for. 9/10 chests just gave me star shards (basic currency) which are wasted when I've been at 9999 cap for hours with nothing to spend them on unless you also find one of the other upgrade items. All of this culminated in a very rushed final sequence. I guess I wasn't expecting something as grand as Hollow Bastion or End of the World, but as soon as you enter the Tower, it's a short hallway then 2 final bosses. While the story part of the ending is good, the rushed pacing and the god-awful "1 mistake and you start over" escape sequence soured the whole game for me. It's a fun game with beautiful visuals and a great story that tries too hard to make its gameplay similar to PS2 classics without understanding what made those games classics in the first place. Can't recommend at full price.

Duskfade can be compared to Kingdom Hearts and 90s 3D platformers like Spyro. The worlds are beautifully designed, and the level of detail is breathtaking. However, the combat system is a mediocre imitation of Kingdom Hearts. There are only four special attacks—with animations that also recall Kingdom Hearts—though these four are far less spectacular. While there is a wide variety of enemy types, defeating them requires only minimal strategic adjustment; it’s still fun, but lacks real depth. Most of the boss fights were excellent, though two were poorly designed—unfortunately, the final boss falls into this category, as I personally found it underwhelming. There is plenty of unlockable content, and the worlds offer a slight *Metroidvania* feel, encouraging you to revisit areas once you’ve acquired new abilities. I’d currently rate the game a 7/10; it had the potential to be more, especially regarding the combat, and the overall flow feels a bit lacking. The inspirations are clearly drawn almost entirely from Kingdom Hearts—just without the Disney elements and the magic.
I like it.
