Gameplay

Pro:

Recht guter Spielfluss
großteils gut gemachte Kämpfe
Kontra:

unbesiegbarer Endboss
Balancing teils verbesserungswürdig
Nur zwei Helden
Sehr teuer für das, was geboten wird
bekannte Bugs

Einige Begehbarkeitsfehler
Clippingfehler

RPG Maker strikes again! "Dungeons of Betrayal" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This RPG Maker asset flip is yet another construction kit template copy+paste from serial shovelware pushers, SA Industry/ZemunBRE/Mikhail Melnikov. These guys do nothing but copy premade game templates and game tutorials, fill out a few things/stamp out basic levels using the construction kit templates, slap on an asset flipped set of sprites/assets, and dump them on Steam and into cheap nasty shovelware game bundles as cash grabs. Trying to get paid for someone else's game templates, assets... at best, this is shovelware, at worst, it's a scam/cash grab. Darkelite Studio Inc/SA Industry have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:

"Kingdom Defense" = Tower Defense Basic Pixel Art Pack developed by FreeThePlayerOnGame
"Drive For Your Life" = Zombie Drive - Full Game Template developed by Puppeteer
"Falling Words" = 2D Typing Game developed by Steelkrill Studio
"Fox and Bunny" = Sunny Land developed by Ansimuz (as ZemunBRE)
"Face" = Red Runner developed by Bayat Games (as Mikhail Melnikov)
"Nice Way" = White Peas developed by EVGames (as Mikhail Melnikov)
"Bounce" = Bounce Mobile Game Unity Project developed by GhandiGames (as Mikhail Melnikov)
"Squares" = Push the Squares Pack developed by Shorka Games (as Mikhail Melnikov)
This particular RPG Maker asset flip is incredibly lazy shovelware, you have amnesia so you must run through a series of copy + pasted RPG Maker asset flip dungeons... it's pure garbage, but as you can see from the developers rap sheet above, they're serial asset flippers just out to make a quick buck by polluting Steam with trash like this. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.
Warning: Review Manipulation!
This game features a very small number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. "Dungeons of Betrayal" has the insane price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk. Gamers who want a good retro JRPG experience would be better off playing the originals, like Final Fantasy, Star Ocean or Chrono Trigger.
This game is strange. Structurally, it's sound, and very polished. It's fast-paced, and clearly, the developer cared a lot about making this a good game. There are SOME original assets. Not a lot, but there are some. The character portraits and battle backgrounds are original. My question is, if they're willing to do that much, why still include the basic default RPG Maker assets at all? Why not make everything from the ground up? That seems like a very strange decision to me. The gameplay is fun but it can get repetitive, and there's really not much else going on besides grinding and getting to the next level. That's fine, it's just not really my type of thing. It's a decent game, and I think it's quite decent, but it just doesn't go all the way in my opinion. Also the game is incredibly easy. Way too easy. 6/10. It's a good game, but I don't really see myself coming back to it

Dungeons of Betrayal, developed by Darkelite Studio Inc and published by SA Industry, is a dungeon-crawling RPG that draws heavily from classic genre traditions while attempting to layer in a narrative built around uncertainty and mistrust. You take on the role of a protagonist suffering from memory loss, navigating a series of labyrinthine dungeons in search of both answers and survival. On the surface, it feels like a familiar setup, but the game tries to distinguish itself through the idea that not every ally is trustworthy and that your decisions may shape how events unfold. The gameplay sticks closely to established RPG conventions. Exploration involves moving through maze-like environments, uncovering items, solving light environmental puzzles, and engaging in turn-based combat encounters. The combat system is straightforward, relying on basic attacks, abilities, and stat progression. It’s easy to pick up and doesn’t overwhelm the player with complexity, which makes it accessible, especially for those who enjoy simpler RPG structures. However, this same simplicity can become a drawback over time, as battles tend to follow similar patterns and rarely introduce mechanics that significantly change how encounters are approached. A central idea in Dungeons of Betrayal is the theme of trust. Throughout your journey, you encounter various characters whose intentions are not always clear. Some offer assistance, while others may deceive or oppose you, creating a sense of tension in how you choose to interact with them. This concept adds an interesting narrative layer, encouraging players to think about their decisions rather than simply progressing through the story. That said, the impact of these choices doesn’t always feel as significant as it could be, and the system can come across as underdeveloped, with limited long-term consequences for the paths you take. The game introduces a handful of additional mechanics, such as equipment upgrades and alternative ways to handle encounters, including the option to spare enemies in certain situations. These features suggest a degree of flexibility in gameplay, but they don’t fundamentally transform the experience. Instead, they act as small variations within an otherwise consistent loop, offering some diversity without adding substantial depth. The overall structure remains focused on steady progression through dungeons rather than on evolving gameplay systems. Visually, the game adopts a pixel-art style typical of many small-scale RPG projects. The environments are functional and easy to navigate, but they lack distinctiveness, often blending together as the game progresses. Character designs and animations are simple, serving their purpose without leaving a strong impression. The audio complements the experience in a similar way, providing background support without standing out. Altogether, the presentation reflects the game’s modest scope, prioritizing usability over visual flair. Pacing is a mixed aspect of the experience. The game provides a clear sense of progression, with new areas and challenges unlocking at a steady rate. However, the limited variety in dungeon layouts and enemy types can make the journey feel repetitive, particularly in longer play sessions. While there are moments of interest—such as hidden areas or narrative interactions—they are not frequent enough to consistently break up the routine. Despite its limitations, Dungeons of Betrayal has a certain appeal for players who appreciate straightforward, classic-style RPGs. Its simplicity and familiar structure can be comforting, and the inclusion of a narrative centered on trust and deception adds a layer of intrigue, even if it isn’t fully realized. It’s a game that doesn’t aim to push boundaries, but rather to deliver a traditional experience with a slight thematic twist. In the end, Dungeons of Betrayal is a modest and somewhat uneven RPG that shows ambition in its ideas but struggles to fully develop them. While it offers a complete and playable adventure with some interesting concepts, its repetitive gameplay and limited depth prevent it from standing out in a meaningful way. For fans of simple dungeon crawlers, it may provide a decent experience, but it falls short of delivering something truly memorable. Rating: 7/10
