Class building, party building, character finding, secrets to unlock. I was skeptical to even buy the game from the artstyle but it's worth every penny. Bought Dungeon Dreams 2 as soon as i finished this.
I bought this game on a whim after loading up Dungeon Dreams 2 and seeing the game asking me about some stuff happening in the first one. I went in not expecting much, and I was blown away! The game is split into 2 sections- the everyday town stuff where you can earn money, date and do quests and the dungeon where you grind and progress the story (events in town are based on dungeon depth). This design is so great: Get bored of grinding? Go chat girls up! A girl dumped you? There's always some good to be done in the dungeon! The dungeon is grindy in a good way- you will struggle on some floors, go back to town, level up, buy new gear and in a few hours, those floors will be merely a stop on your way to the more challenging floors. You won't see everything in one playthrough, but for those who want to see everything- a new game plus system exists so you don't have to grind much. The girls(or guys if female MC) are all varied with their own personalities and rather well-written. I would warn you against trying to build a harem as you will probably end up being dumped by a few of them. All in all, I really enjoyed my time with this game, and for the asked price it is a bargain! Highly recommend it for anyone interested in a chill indie JRPG! *NOTE: If you encounter a bug with the bandits, there is a fix on the official discord.
I've enjoyed the game because it scratches several itches that I have in regards to a game. It does have it's flaws, but so far I've enjoyed it completely. I'll list the pros and cons for anyone who is interest. Pros: 1. Lots of different party members to choose from, so regardless of the class you pick, there's a good number of them to compliment your choice. Some are tied to buildings or dungeon progression though. 2. A good variety of story and events to experience. 3. I've always enjoyed building up a town or adding buildings so I like that part, though I admit it could be a bit better. 4. There's a lot of hidden interactions between your characters and NPCs as well. 5. Able to customize your character to some extent by selecting different classes and (eating food to add to certain stats) - I chose mage for my second run through, but ate fried chicken every day(Adds 1-2 Def), which made my standard defense similar to the normal tank of the party. Mage already has magic resist skills so I felt pretty tanky there considering I only wore robes. 6. You can get other characters to marry and get together, which I like, though it can be somewhat vague how to do that sometimes. Middle of the road stuff:(Neither good nor bad for me) 1. It is very grindy, but I rather like that about a game sometimes.(You will go down the dungeon constantly for treasure. I usually stopped at a predetermined floor so the story wouldn't progress too fast) 2. It's an RPG Maker game, so that does limit it quite a bit. I can't help but think how nice this game could be if it was redone with a 3D environment and characters. 3. Mini games aren't too bad and can be used to earn some money, but money given does seem random. 4. Story progression is tied directly to what dungeon floor you are on. This allows you to stall the main story for a bit while you finish any side quests or earn money to build buildings for the town. 5. It seems the main antagonist(Grant) has a harem but, you don't get luxury. I don't mind that too much, to be honest. Cons: 1. Portraits, images of characters can vary greatly in detail. Usually you see this great image of a character and then you do an even with them and this very low end version of them shows up instead of the usual one you see of the character. The portrait almost never looks like that image either. Not horrible, but stands out a bit. 2. Relationships are a bit odd at times. I tried a rogue play through the first time and ended up dating Mai, though I don't recall saying I wanted to. By eating each of her foods and doing this quest to eat cake with her, you just start dating. 3. There is a steam guide that helps a bit, but it doesn't have everything in it, so there are a lot of things that I'm unsure of. 4. I got Rudy with the dancer during my rogue play through at one of the Pubs, only to find out that doing that blocks him from his most power class later. So some choices can be painful if you aren't careful, or don't know the outcome beforehand. 5. Some events can be completely missed if you progress too fast down the dungeon. 6. Don't know if this was just me or not, but the after battle, exp and jp points display were really wonky and slow, considering my computer is very decked out. I found if I minimized the window for a second and popped it back up, then the points usually finished instantly and I could click to the next screen(most of the time). Was really annoying, but I fought through it. So, in the end, I thought the good outweighed the bad. I got more than enough hours out of the discounted price I paid, so I'm happy.
Absolute grindfest on your first playthrough, makes you know how weak you are. On new game plus, you get to flex on everyone. Unfortunately still have to grind job points. Sadge
10/10 game. The only flaw would be art, but the story is worth looking over the art. got 50 hours on my save and it was definitely worth it. Thank you so much for this game, it is a masterpiece.
I like the game conceptually, but in execution I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate it. None of the characters are even remotely likable. It's just not fun, at all.
A game that has no right to be as good as it is. Some of the grammar isn't perfect, some of the systems are flawed , but if you like turn-based RPG's, dungeon delving, a lot of quests and hidden options that don't always hold your hand and a whole lot of progression systems then this is for you. You start out as an actual nobody who can work his way up to becoming a legendary adventurer while establishing a glorious commerical empire, what else could you want? You can also ♥♥♥♥ over Grant, which is a nice added bonus.
Setting is nice, game have some nice features like buying furniture for your house and town building(haven` reached that part because haven't played to this point) and general game idea is great, but realization leaves to desire better. Randomly generated RPG maker dungeon – looks very bad, I would rather have one manually well drawn dungeon, even if it is same dungeon every time i play the game, rather than this. You cant manually leave the dungeon, there is no way out, or game is this poorly designed that i couldn`t find it, you can teleport via item, which you need to find first, or you need to be killed by enemies and loose your items. Battles aren't random which is nice, but enemy behavior on map is not well made, looks like they just do have follow player ai setting, and very many enemies run at speed of light, which is looks bad, and you can barely avoid fighting them, and there is no runaway command avalible in battle, so if you have got in trouble, game leave you with no chances to escape, and there is no item which would let you flee combat(at least at the beginning). Combat uses default RPG maker ATB battle system, which in my opinion makes battles slow paced and boring(While ATB bar fills in, nothing happens, enemies do not attack, you just sit and wait till bar would be filled).Battlers are default RPG Maker battlers with something like breath plugin slapped on em. And there is very little variety in enemy types, so it is getting boring to fight enemies very quick. There is class system with 3 skill trees and a bunch of classes to choose from, which is nice, but classes feel poorly balanced(at least at the beginning: scout barely deals any damage with skills, while mage one-shots enemies, maybe it gets better eventually, but i wouldn`t be playing this far, because i do not have fun). Didn't liked equip system – there is just body, weapon, shield, only one accessory slot. No head slot, no second accessory, no feet. There is day/night system, with decent realisation, but sometimes it feels unnecessary. Music does not fit locations, and I personally find it annoying, town have Arabic style music with for some reason, which feels out of place, first floors of dungeon have annoying music. Combat music is kind is some sloppy amateur rock music, which dosen`t fit jrpg battle at all. Winning battle screen have some pop-punkish music which would rather fit some tv commercial, not what i would want to hear in jrpg, I would rather listened default RPG maker music than this. Art-style is inconstant, sometimes it is made with RPG maker character generator, sometimes it is custom art, sometimes it is both at the same time, I would preferred important characters to have custom art, and non important characters to do not have any art, rather than RPG maker generator abomination. There are few minor errors in mapping, and I can see some lines around grass texture at the beach, I don't think that game which is being sold for money should have things like that. There is a lot of characters and interactions, but I think that dialogs are poorly written, I don't want to know characters better, or having conversations with them. Game have some mini-games as a way to gain money in a town, which is nice and all, but I would prefer developer to waster more time on improving game balance, graphics, or dialog writing. Overall game isn't bad, but I have seen much better games made in RPG maker. Developer claims that there is a lot of content and characters, but there is no point in having a lot of content, if it feels unpolished, combat doesn't feel fun, story and characters are unappealing, and game leaves amateur impression. Overall i would rate this game 5 or 6 out of 10. I think steam Reviews are exscessivly positive, so i would go with negative review, to make it more objective. Game does have nice ideas, but do not delivers satisfactory dungeon or exploring experience or story which i would want to go through. If this game was free i would have gave it positive review, but for a commercial product it feels amateur and unpolished. I hope sequel executes this ideas better. Gonna wait for it to be on sale to see if it is better. Because i think it is a bit overpriced for rpg maker game.
Easily one of the best RPG Maker games I've ever played. Strongly recommended.
i Love it; Thank u DDreams games ☺
