[b]I am the Dirt – for Art by Scum Studio (PC 2019)[/b] This is a Chinese visual novel with 3 suggestive scenes. None of which are overly explicit and can be further controlled by customising the dress up character by choosing what it wears or doesn’t wear manually. I guess similar in a way a barbie doll works. You play the role of an overly inappropriate hormonal Japanese student whose banter always revolves around sex and which doesn’t translate at all that well from Chinese to English. An example of this is a section where the main protagonist, I assume is trying to say something like, “I would like to rub your chest…” Instead, the game translates it from Chinese to English as, “I would like to rub your grandmother…” In which she replies in a tonal expression ‘Oh how sweet!’ The visual novel has 8 chapters in total which all play out in an abandoned classroom which a student has repurposed as a painting studio. The painter (AKA Predecessor) has really set up the studio so that he can encourage local women to model for him and try and groom them for his own selfish gratification purposes, making him scum. There are 2 models/victims he is entertaining to bed. One is a fellow student named Cecily who he has known for 3 years and though he is not interested in pursuing a long-term meaningful relationship with her, he is aware that she has a crush on him and would make an easy target. He is also aware that pursuing a shallow love interest with her, will most likely destroy the friendship they have, but doesn’t really care. He is more interested in having her as a trophy, more than anything else and is rather selfish and shallow enough not to care what emotional damage it might cause. The second is Nancy Armani Ming Ming who already has a boyfriend, is sexually like-minded like himself and is not satisfied with her current jealous, over protective lover. Each chapter simply requires you to pick 3 out of 4 items to talk about in the studio with the person featured in that chapter (Cecily or Armani). While your presented with multiple statements you can make with each item, they all do the exact same thing and simply push the story forward. There is NO, I repeat, NO wrong choice. All statements, no matter what you choose, lead to the same consequence. This makes the time spent playing the visual novel, extremely meaningless. Another thing that makes this visual novel completely meaningless, is that there is no noble message in its conclusion. There are some comical scenes such as the awkward kiss, the fire scenes and the odd silly translation, but nothing saves this from being anything more than a lazy template design with a quick sex sells gimmick. Each chapter concludes with you being able to paint the model featured for that day with whatever they are wearing and then you suggesting they wear more revealing clothes at their next appointment.
