Reviews
After almost 19 hours of gameplay and one stream here is my review. Very important to say is that Dreamvibe is an "Easy to play - Hard to Master" game. So please don't get confused by the other reviews. Mastering the Saber takes time and sweat. Tip: Start with the No Energy Mode (the thunder symbol) and the 1st or 2nd difficulty. Gameplay Dreamvibe is a rhythm game and has a lot of similarities with Beatsaber except that you don't need a VR headset and control the Saber with the mouse. As already mentioned the Saber is hard to learn, because you have to learn the behavior first. For me as an old Guitar/Clone Hero veteran this was a high learning curve as I have never played Beatsaber. But the more I played the better the hits. Once you get the rhythm it is super fun to master your own song. Currently there are 2 Sabers. The first Saber is like a Beatsaber and has its own movement. The second one is like a small dot and it behaves like the knife from Fruit Ninja. Music types Here is a small list of music types I tested and how the map creation affects them. + Metal/Rock - Not all notes/beats are perfect 7/10 + EBM - notes/beats are relatively accurate 9/10 + Vocaloid - notes/beats are relatively accurate 9/10 + J-Pop - notes/beats are almost exactly 8/10 + Nightcore - notes/beats are relatively accurate 9/10 + Wave - notes/beats are perfect 10/10 + Industrial - notes/beats are perfect 10/10 + Hardbass - notes/beats are relatively accurate 9/10 It looks like guitar beats are not yet recognized correctly. Drums on the other hand are recognized well Early Access For an Early Access game Dreamvibe already has a lot to offer. Like uploading your own songs in MP3 or MP4 format. What makes this upload feature special is that the game creates a map for you and you can start immediately. What makes it even better is that you can customize the maps and improve the beats/notes in case of need. There are 3 difficulty levels offered here as well as speeds. These can be very challenging and increase the desire for more. Future What I wish for the future for this game would be: - Leaderboards - Challenge Modes - multiplayer - Steam Workshop for more effects and maps - Spotify Mod - Main menu customization (change colors etc) - Better optimization for streaming (720p30 is feasible but disturbing at high BPM) - Optimization of automatic map creation //Workaround -> Editor (Some notes/beats do not match) As I heard it is a small developer team and for that the game is what is a super game. I hope the game gets a lot of updates! Dreamvibe has a lot of potential! Please do not waste it! P.S. Developer I use a wired mouse Razer Mamba with 800-1600 DPI
+ The game's idea is neat + Simple UI + Easy to dive into + Pretty nice visuals, I especially like the smoke effect after slashing a note - THE BLADE... as somebody has already mentioned, the blade feels very awkward to swing and slice with. It behaves like there is a weight to it. Sometimes when I swung I completely missed the arrow notes, sometimes I got instant X. I went through the mouse sensitivity and the in-game mouse position sensitivity, fiddled with it. However, I didn't reach a point where I felt like it improved anything for me. Could we get an in-game cursor with dope visuals that would act like a blade, instead (I kind of agree with the person who has mentioned Fruit Ninja). - Some songs when importing, they weren't playable, just silence, instant D rank. - Imported songs have white background As an EA title, we can expect things to change.
The game looks good, I just find the controls are a miss for me personally. I don't find it intuitive enough to just pick up and play and be decent at it. But the game looks cool, and maybe if I play with settings I could get it working better, but I haven't tried. Also I would like to see them add Spotify support, that would be something that would go a long way for me personally, but I don't know what the devs would have to do for that to happen, so I'm not holding my breath, but if they could strike a deal that would be cool. EDIT: I tried the game again today, and would like to say I had much more fun and the controls felt a lot smoother to me, I think I was to quick to judge when I originally wrote this review. The blade movement felt a lot smoother this time and I never changed any setting, I think I picked too hard of a song when I first played, or I just needed to get a lil more familiar with the blade movement and timing. Just wanted to say I think I was too quick to say the controls were off when maybe I just needed a few more minutes with the game.
pros: - Game looks beautiful Cons: - it is a slow game - accuracy of the blade feels off - little to no songs in the default game - map generator for your own songs is awful in conclusion, do not buy if you thought this was going to be beat saber but with mouse type of game
This and the previous product of the author are unfinished
Pros: - Has amazing visuals (notes, blade, and backgrounds) - very easy to get into and start playing - adding your own songs and videos is super easy and fast! - tons of customization available - hours on hours of replay-ability! -has its own beat map creator/ editor. Cons: - A lot of the user downloaded music has no rhythm (notes dont match the song at all due to it being based off of amplitude of the song.) - The energy mode is a bit hard. miss one note and it drops way too far in my opinion. seems to continue to drop even if there are no notes present. (maybe its intended?) - Sometimes maps still do not load and leaves white middle screen (usually fixed by reloading the game) - Hard to stream due to massive lag on any map other than space. (could be my pc. take this with a grain of salt) - The new slicer in its current state gets lost if its not always moving. Over all I recommend this game to anyone who likes rhythm games. It feels similar to beat saber without requiring a vr headset which makes this game more accessible for many. I have played this for a decent amount and even with its few issues, I still greatly enjoyed playing and am excited to see what more this has to offer as it grows! I would be more than happy to help in anyway to keep making this game something amazing :)
Dreamvibe is a rhythm game, where you use a sword to hit orbs from a specific direction to the rhythm of the music. The basic idea is great I think. The game is similar to Beat Saber, but you need to control the sword with a mouse in a non-VR environment. The game's effect and look is pretty awesome, however for me, playing it for around 30 minutes, it started to hurt my eye, and also it's pretty hard to see, when you hit multiple orbs in a short amount of time, thanks to the effects. The controls are not too difficult, you just use your mouse, however you need to get used to the sword physics. It's not that bad, but I had more issues to understand, when to hit the orbs. The level generator works all right, not perfect but definitely good enough. The level editor is easy to use and you can make a lot from it. As I wrote it above, the game is not perfect, but there are other issues too. Sometimes the background just broke and give me a solid color. Also, if you want to load in your own song from a folder which has more than 5000 songs (yep, that's me), the game will freeze. The game don't have a lot of songs at first, so consider adding yours. The game doesn't have too much content for it's money, but this is an early access game which just came out 4 days ago. Dreamvibe is a really surprising game and I can see a lot into it, if the devs fixes the bugs and make the gameplay a bit more fluent, not even mentioning to add some content to the game. In it's current state, I can recommended it for sure, but not for 12,2€... maybe for 7€, but if they expand it more, than the price tag will be right too.
DREAMVIBE
---{Graphics}--- ☐ You forget what reality is ☑ Beautiful ☐ Good ☐ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ Don’t look too long at it ☐ Paint.exe Details: It’s a beautiful game, the blade animation is so satisfying. The note explosion and blade tails are clean. Backgrounds are cool but maybe add a bit of customization like color, etc. ---{Gameplay}--- ☐ Very good ☑ Good ☐ It’s just gameplay ☑ Mehh ☐ Starring at walls is better ☐ Just don’t ---{Audio}--- ☑ Eargasm ☐ Very good ☐ Good ☐ Not too bad ☐ Bad ☐ Earrape Details: Did I really need to justify myself on it? ---{Audience}--- ☐ Kids ☐ Teens ☐ Adults ☑ Human ---{PC Requirements}--- ☐ Check if you can run paint ☑ Potato ☑ Decent ☐ Fast ☐ Rich boiiiiii ☐ Ask NASA if they have a spare computer Details: I didn’t get any problem to run this game, but I’ve not tried on a “potato” Pc. But, as I’ve seen on the other reviews, it’s running quite good on low comp PC. ---{Difficulty}--- ☐ Just press A ☐ Easy ☐ Significant brain usage ☑ Easy to learn / Hard to master ☐ Difficult ☐ Dark Souls Details: I saw people say, “horrible controls”, “I’m struggling with blade control”, etc. I’ve struggled a lot on the first hours on this game but as a big rhythm games player I’ve learned how to control it quite quickly. I recommend the no energy mode and the slicer blade mode for new players. ---{Story}--- ☑ Story? ☐ Text or Audio floating around ☐ Average ☐ Good ☐ Lovely ☐ It‘ll replace your life ---{Game Time}--- ☐ Long enough for a cup of coffee ☐ Short ☐ Average ☐ Long (It will depend on your level) ☑ To infinity and beyond Details: As all rhythm games, you can play to the infinity as long as you have music and maps. ---{Price}--- ☐ It’s free! ☑ Worth the price ☐ If u have some spare money left ☑ Not recommended ☐ You could also just burn your money Details: I think this game is worth the price for players like me, for fans of rhythm games but I recommend you to don’t buy it if you don’t have much money and your not a rhythm game player. ---{Bugs}--- ☐ Never heard of ☑ Minor bugs ☐ Can get annoying ☐ ARK: Survival Evolved ☐ The game itself is a big terrarium for bugs
Note : 8.5/10
It’s a cool game as I’ve said earlier. But, it’s an easy to learn but hard to master game. You will probably struggle a lot with blade control on the firsts hours but when you got it, it’s only pleasure. There are nice graphics, a nice song quality, an auto mapper, etc. If you don’t want to struggle or master the classic blade, use the slicer blade (like in fruit ninja) and the no energy mode. I’ve tried the map editor, but it sadly doesn’t work for me (idk if it’s only me but it’s really bugged). At least the auto mapper is really good; I’ve tried many types of music like rap (not a good idea, notes doesn’t fit well), Nightcore (notes fit well), Kawaii future bass (really random, sometimes work well sometimes not), Hardcore (notes fit well), ---------. So, if you like rhythm game like Osu and you have a bit of money, buy it ! But just know that, you can find other rhythm games for a lower prize (it’s a bit expensive I agree, maybe 8-10$ would be better) but this one is the most beautiful I’ve found. Maybe not the easier or the funniest but it’s still enough for an early access game like this one. I hope the devs could improve all the blades control and fix all collision bugs as well as rework the map editor and after that the game would be pretty good. Things that can devs add later: - Multiplayer - Achievements - Improve auto mapper to make all notes fit better - More initial maps - Rework the map editor I hope I could help you a bit in this game development! PS: I’m using a wired Razer Mamba Elite 800-16000 DPI
Would love to reccomend this, as the "mouse saber" genre is just not good yet, but this game isnt quite there. mapping for default songs has a lot of notes that don't flow well (non auto generated maps should have cool patterns and nice flow instead of random feeling), and a lot of notes that don't line up with previous notes (aka a note on the kick drum, and then a note on a totally different instrument instead of the next drum hit, but close enough to the next drum hit to feel weird) overall a lot of potential but not a good game yet.
After playing for 9 hours i can say that the game idea is very good along with the graphics and audio, im sure that if the devs continue dropping updates and fixing some bugs the game will become one of the best rhythim games ever. In my opinion 8/10 (it lags a bit)
