dreamland solitaire: dragon's fury is the second in a series of generic fantasy card games with the usual great presentation, forgettable music and +1/-1 gameplay on 200 levels, unlocked one by one. still no mini-games but there's a bit of a narrative that suddenly concludes after about 180 levels, otherwise pretty much the same as the first game, and so is my review. 3 difficulty modes, casual is normal, limited time is timed, easy offers two decks. difficulty can be changed at any time and there's an optional tutorial to show you the ropes. further settings include separate volume sliders, windowed mode with a smaller non-resizable window and a toggle for a custom cursor, plus there's in-game representation of achievements and something new, a bunch of card backs to choose from. and you don't have to go back to the map after every single level anymore, a most welcome change. unsurprisingly, the goal is to remove all the cards for a 3-star rating. a golden glow around a card means money to buy power-ups with, purple is for mana, spent on location upgrades. the former includes the usual suspects, passive stuff like more undos, more cards, jokers and wildcards to find on levels (these can also be bought), etc. once unlocked, active ones like fireball or shuffle are charged by matching a certain suit. location upgrades are still just cosmetic, much like in the jewel match solitaire series, except this time you're cleaning up and interior decorating for a lazy fairy. then things get real when the titular dragon and its fury enters the picture. and by real I mean there's more cleaning up and decorating. you'll find the usual blocked cards, they need something to unlock them, but unlike other games, the axe card also has a value, so unlike opening a lock or removing frozen cards or walls, the axe has to be matched to the appropriate card to break planks. I found the overall difficulty higher than in the first game, less balanced, more reliance on wildcards. not much else to say, play one of these and you've played them all, but this is one of the better ones for a reasonable price. for instance, 8floor reskins are a bit cheaper (or a lot on sale) but they're lower quality, and some jewel match games offer about the same both in quality and amount of content but cost twice as much.
Very nice game
I've seen a lot of worse games than this one, but I still don't feel like recommending it. While it's certainly worth its price in terms of time spent per dollar paid, I feel like most of the effort was put into the graphics and animation effects, rather than making the game enjoyable. The music, for instance, has vocals but gets boring really quickly and it's one of those rare games where I turned off the music forever after about an hour. Anyway, gameplay wise, there are some interesting levels, many boring ones, and quite a handful of impossible levels where the only way to win is either sheer luck, or buying lots of jokers. Great. I didn't feel like the programmer bothered to sort levels by difficulty, at all. The animations are slow and can't be skipped (especially annoying on the 3-star pop-up), some card designs are confusing and will make you miss a potential match, etc. I can't really say I enjoyed it. I saved the best for the end, though. The story is just ador... sorry, laughable. See, you have to help a fairy redecorate her condo or something. By playing cards to get her some magic. Okay. Whatever. These games have long since stopped caring about card playing make sense within their meta. Then you get called for help by a wizard who's in a hurry to get your help, but not before he gets his tea, that's for sure. So you have to get magic to make him some tea. What a lazy fairy, can't even bother gathering wood and water for her place? So you have to save a village from destruction by fire (which amounts to using magic to stop a fire, when the village is located next to a lake... No villagers bothering to help? The wizard and the fairy will do it all? Sorry, the wizard is just there to tell you what to do.) Then you have to go fight the dragon who cause the trouble, but before that you need to find its fair, which you can do by rebuilding a complete mill from scratch or whatever, okay, this game doesn't want to make sense at all, I've understood that, but then why bother give us a story at all? Just give us the cards. So at the end you reach the dragon's lair, and... ultimate twist! The dragon isn't a bad guy, he just wanted to recover what the villagers had stolen! Okay! So now we simply need to help him find the last few possessions he wasn't able to find in the village. Without moving back to the village. That's some fairy. Said possessions include an elegant table complete with tea set (for his human guests? Really, how nice of him), a carpet (okay, so at this point it's likely the 'artists' are trying to say it's a nice old dragon lady), some chains (who wouldn't want those in their boudoir?), and a painting of... itself, I guess? After you're done, the dragon says thanks, probably offers you some tea offscreen, and then for some reason the wizard breaks the fourth wall to tell us, don't worry, more adventures are awaiting her. Wait, what? That was an adventure?! I felt like putting my pants on this morning was more of an adventure. Maybe I should make a card game, too. Tight Pants Solitaire, I'll call it.
Beautiful, good quality Solitaire game with 200 levels * Relaxing music * Well balanced game play with no frustrating levels * Beautiful artwork * Fully recommended * All achievements can be obtained on Easy difficulty
As tower defense games go, I think this game misses the mark totally. It also isn't a very good first-person-shooter or much of a rogue dungeon crawler. However, if you enjoy a card solitaire game that actually requires a computer without your spouse going "You paid hundreds of dollars for that and you're playing Spider Solitaire on it? Here's my 59 cent deck of cards; go away I have farms to water," then this is the game for you. It's got stuff that only a computer can handle: flaming cards, frozen cards, cards turned to stone, cards trapped in thorns, plus an assortment of great power-ups that give extra cards, extra undos, jokers, and so on. Also, each suit has a special power: clubs shoot laser beams, diamonds changes the number of your cards, hearts reshuffle your deck and spades shoots fireballs. (Well, at least you can understand why I thought it was a tower defense at first; what card game needs laser beams and fireballs?) There is a nail-biting suspenseful plot about a fairy, a wizard and a dragon in a tragic love triangle full of intrigue and mystery, but hey, you're here for the solitaire. Spoiler: 7 goes on either an 8 or 6. Two thumbs up! Go buy this! It's an Alawar game, so it's almost always on sale in some bundle or other.
Relaksacyjna gra w pasjansa, polecam.
