Information
Dreadtides is a Strategy game, developed and published by HeadByte Studios, which was released in April 2020. The Game is still in Early Access.
Gameplay
The story takes place in a dark fantasy world that is marked by corruption. In the time of the ancestors, a mighty apocalypse approached from one day to the next, whereupon all human and animal life were transformed into nightmarish creatures. Discovered one day these creatures a little village where you and your people had been hiding all along. You now have to defend yourself against these creatures, so that everything that has been built up since then was not in vain. In principle, the game is divided into two phases: In the first, you take care of your city, so that it grows, more inhabitants join you and you collect resources, which in turn are essential for survival. The second phase is the re-exploration and exploration of the new land, ensuring that your city is protected and of course the fight against the creatures. I don't want to go into the two phases so much, but in any case the controls are easy to handle and can be learned quickly, whether building a building or defending the city. So far, the game can only be played with a keyboard and mouse.
Pro
+ active Devs who are also helpful and answer questions + Dark/Fantasy setting + Strategy game with brains + good Soundtrack + Resources are generated randomly on the map + so far 4 different classes that also use different elements + A skill tree that gives you various improvements to buildings, towers, troops and harvesting efficiency + good Interface and Tutorial
Kontra
- long load times at the moment - so far only English language availabe
Conclusion
Dreadtides combines tower defense and building buildings in one game and offers you variety. I am curious what will follow and look forward to new updates. PS: First of all, thank you to the developer who provided us with this key for the group and here can you can find more good reviews from others and me https://store.steampowered.com/curator/26335619-Adult-World-Gamers/.

My first impressions of this game are generally good. I like the art style and the balance between aggressive expansion to gain resources and building strong defensive points is a good one. I've seen a few bugs with map generation involving water but nothing major. It seems to run smoothly until you get to a decently sized city which is the kind of optimization issue I'd expect to get fixed over the course of an early access. The major things that are missing that I'd really want to see in a final release are callouts indicating when buildings and units are being attacked, right now that's only displayed via text, and better controls for units like the ability to queue up orders and control groups. If you like tower defense or base building games then I think this is definitely worth checking out.

Thank you in advance Short Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcNGhwdbfvM
Overview
Dreadtides is a tower defense strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting, developed and published by HeadBytes Studios. In this world full of magical corruption, you embody the chief of a city, where your ancestors once lived... Sadly since then a magical corruption has taken control of all living souls, transforming them into horrible creatures. You will have to protect your people at all costs against these creatures, explore these lands, and eradicate the magical corruption that has caused the loss of humanity.
History
The story plunges us into a fantasy world fallen into a magical corruption. In the time of your ancestors, an apocalypse consumed all human and animal life, turning them into nightmarish creatures. These creatures discovered a small village, where you and your people have been hiding all this time. You will have to fight against this human life transformed into creatures for the survival of your people.
Graphic Design/Art Direction
Dreadtides is oriented towards a Low poly 3D style. These graphics are both neat and colorful, which is very pleasing to the eye.
Soundtrack
There are two phases in the soundtrack of the game. The first is a soft melody with little bird songs and a breeze of air during the quiet phase. The second is a louder, faster melody with drum beats during the fighting phase, which gives the soundtrack an epic feel.
Gameplay
The game is only playable with keyboard and mouse. There are two phases of gameplay, the first one being the city building of your city and its surroundings to bring back a maximum of resources to expand your people. The second phase is the exploration of the land, the protection of your city and the fight against the creatures. City building Here you will have to develop your town, create housing, create work by setting up lumber camps, mineral extractors, factories, fields, universities, etc... To expand your city and reach its full potential, you'll need to use the search technique tree, which only works if you've already set up a university. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2058099118 In this tree you will be able to find various searches and improvements of buildings and the production of your resources, they are essential to advance properly in the adventure. Defense of your city, battles and land exploration This phase will be centered on the Tower Defense side of the game, you will have to defend your city as best as possible, nothing must reach the heart of your city. You will have turrets to place close to your city and your ore extractors. These turrets can be of several magical elements like poison, fire and ice thanks to the search tree. To complete the turrets you have to create an army, for this there are four class types: Soldiers, Archer, Mage and Armoured. You will also be able to upgrade your troops by the same principle as the turrets, your troops can be of different elements. On the exploration side, you'll have to send your troops as shadow scouts to enlarge your game vision and repel corruption. discover potential ruins, minerals of various elements, monster nests, etc... The combat phase is simple, your turrets will fight to protect your city from the orders of creatures. At the level of your troops, this one will attack targets that pass in their field of vision.
Qualities and defects
✅Positive points✅ * Randomly generated resource location, * 4 classes for the troops and can be of different elements, * A search tree with a lot of improvements (buildings, harvesting efficiency, tower and troop skills, etc...). * Complete and easy to understand tutorial, * Variant soundtrack between two phases: soft melody during the quiet phases and epic on the combat phases, * Good shelf life, * Developer listens and reacts very quickly when a bug or other problems are reported. ❌Negative points❌ * Some optimization problems, * It lacks an option menu, so you can't change the keys, the only options you can change are: lowering the sound in a game and the quality of the graphics when you launch the game.
Conclusion
Although dreadtides is in early access it is a very good Tower Defense strategy game, with a gameplay that will keep improving and a soundtrack that is nice to hear. The few optimization issues are already pointed out to the developers already working on it. They have also planned a promising roadmap for this year with new monsters, new spells etc... Despite its small flaws, I highly recommend it for fans and non fans of tower defense strategy!
Follow our curator for similar games
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/ EA Basebuilding TD + mechanics + cool graphics = TD version of Northgard. Build, gather resources, research, manage, explore and defend from monsters. Needs some polishing and devs are active.
I tend towards turn-based strategy games more frequently than RTS, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the variety of mechanics which blend to form Dreadtides' gameplay. The game still could use a number of quality-of-life improvements, such as a hotkey for game-speeds, but I hope to see such features as the Early Access progresses. The only major issue I had during gameplay was when upgrading a Structure's Tier, the game became much more demanding on my computer's processing. I look forward to seeing how this game, and studio, progresses.
About 7 hours in, and I absolutely love it! Yes, there are bugs (it's early access, so that's expected), but the dev team is extremely responsive and active, so I'm sure the game will progress quickly in it's development. A great combination of resource gathering, base building, exploration, tower defense. Keep up the great work dev team!!
Even in a custom made game with the lowest settings you get wrecked by the enemy.
First game done, made it to day 38, wow this game picks up fast. Loving it, though in the beginning I didn't really know my goal so i just kind of meandered and made myself lose in the end. You definitely need to play your first game though before judging this product, as in the beginning there is not much direction and it feels empty. Trust me it does not stay dull and empty for long. Lets see how long I can last next. Nice wave format that constantly pushes you to stay on top of everything and repel all assaults. I especially enjoy the corrupted zones that push in on you making it so that you can't just build up towers, you have to push back with your own units. The dev team is nice and active on Discord so another plus.
Honestly already invested in buying this by just seeing the game play trailer, and with a solid hour of straight playing through this myself I am thankful I just so happened to come across this game with merely searching 'Tower defense" on the day it came out. My two-cents: There is much room for improvement but that should be expected as an early access game; One addition I hope to see sooner than others would be the integration of an attack move command for your units. Currently I've had to rely on my units being in one spot, and getting aggro'd on enemies that come into its range. To reiterate, just having a definite way of telling your units to attack, instead of maybe mis-clicking and making them just walk closer to them while taking damage. In collaboration with other peoples reviews, this is all i have to bringing to light; if you enjoy a tower defense game with a cartoonish texture and a city building focus, this is the game you have been searching for
