I'm still not very far into the game, but honestly, this is probably the game that many gacha fans have been hoping for. For the developers, it could become a goldmine. Maybe it won't be as profitable as a traditional gacha game, but in return they could win the hearts of countless players. If the developers start releasing new characters as DLC on a regular basis—say for €5–10 each—and occasionally add new content through map expansions for around €10–20, they could make a great profit without exploiting their player base. Add in some free permanent events from time to time, and this game could become a prime example of how the kind of gacha monetization used by companies like HoYoverse and others is completely unnecessary and, frankly, predatory.

Gotta give respect to Hound13 for duking it out with Webzen, getting shafted, finishing the game with a heavily cut down studio and coming to Steam with a reasonable price tag. The game is simply put a different version of Breath of the Wild with a tiny bit of Genshin sprinkled in for good measure. The combat feels fluid, the soundtrack is good, the story and hero quests have quite a bit of thought put into them, the gacha-style progression feels good while not being too slow or fast. The visuals are alright and something i would expect from an open world gacha title. Not eye candy, but not bad either. The AI translated English subtitles are jarring at times though, but the Korean voice acting is surprisingly really good. There is an improved English translation and English voice acting on the way, so if that's what's holding you from getting the game, wait until those changes come out. Can't think of too much else to say. For 30€, it's worth a pickup if you like open world games. The game does offer quite a bit of content to do, depending on your pace of course.
"Gacha without gacha" is a pretty accurate descriptor, but DragonSword is really elevated. Fans of the original Hound13 team from DN days will remember super fun, intricate combat that feels ultra satisfying, NPCs with personality that feel powerful and worldly, and progression that rewards grind without feeling like you have to put in 1000 hours to get past the next DPS check. There are definitely a few odds and ends that feel unfinished from a story standpoint, and it's clear the game was rushed out while pivoting from a gacha at the last second, with a barrel full of random currencies that can be exchanged for a million different bits and bobs to level skills, craft equipment, etc. People inexperienced with gachas or MMORPGs might struggle to understand the order of priority for progression and find themselves falling behind. But the world is beautiful and polished. Mounts can climb, swim and fly seamlessly, combat is smooth as butter, and the mobs and field bosses feel super balanced and scale perfectly with world level. The "combo-based" system is so well implemented and makes teambuilding super fun. Even the paid skins are beautiful, and each one has a whole story to go along with it. I can't recommend DragonSword enough. The only thing it's missing is true multiplayer outside of raids, then the community would really thrive. It's so full of heart, it's clear the devs love this project to bits. I'm so excited to see what the second half update brings.
