Stopped playing soon after starting once I saw the huge warnings lights in the form of a free to play grinding type system, prenium currency, roulette wheel only usuable once per real life day, and so on.
Dragon Prana, another Retro JRPG from Exe. At a first look this one has some interesting features: - subquests; - skillpoint system with a board of different skills you must unlock with points; - jobsystem with a bunch of different skills for each system that you must unlock winning fights; - weapon/armor merging and upgrading system; - arena fights; - shop you can buy items/weapons/armor and upgrade some skills with special coins earned winning fights; - lottery you can play free 3x each real day and another lottery you can play with tickets (won with fights) or special coins; - a large landscape with different dungeons and many different monsters; - finishing the game you can play an extra chapter with improved monsters and some extra fights in the arena; Wow, looks good. But sadly I must inform you that this one is another Exe game with 0 (ZERO) difficult and more like a walking simulator. Your party is overpowered withing the first hour (heck even with the first few minutes if you use the shop). - there are only 20 subquests, and most of them are simple fetch this or kill that and done within minutes; - skill system done within 1 - 3 hours; - jobs that are without meaning just that you get some passive skills (those you can keep even if you switch the job); - weapons/armor that after a 3rd of the game you don't change anymore because the new ones are useless; - arenea fights without any good prices and are only there because if you want to win them you must grind; - the shop...like the skill system is useless and you only need it to overpower your party even more; - so what you can walk around but must follow a rigide storyline...no explorations, the monsters are dull. In the end you'll only use one job and spam the fights with your skills. I could finish the end bosses with 2 skills. Normal fights are just done with the use of up to 3 skills. Those games back than with pixel graphics were interesting because a) their graphic was up to date back than and b) there was something interesting to explore at each new location. Something that is lacking in every Exe game. Oh, and we shouldn't forget that this game offers some overpriced (and useless) pay to win items. Can I recommend this game: No, not even if the price is reduce would I recommend it. There are so many other games around that have a real story to tell and good gameplay.

With Dragon Sinker, I was immediately pulled in by the charming characters, and creative, addictive game modes. I binge-played it. Loved every second from beginning to end. I'll still be returning for the after game content, but it was such a pleasure, that I had to see what the other two titles in the series had to offer. Dragon Lapis was again, love at first sight. Bigger and more of everything. The delightful dialogue was more prolific, the world was bigger, as were the heroes, and eventually riding a dragon across the skies was a magnificent addition. Gone was team building, but I didn't mind as the job plates made for intricate character customization. The handling of those job plates however, is one of the game's low points. As is an overly long final dungeon. Still, an addicting and enthralling game experience, that I was compelled to finish in anticipation of the third game in the series. And again, I look forward to delving into Lapis' after game content. Dragon Prana hasn't hooked me from the start, as the first two titles had. It's clear that it's attempting a 16 bit entry, as the other two could be considered 8 bit. There's a lot more story building, maybe too much. And I don't feel drawn to the main character or his companions. Game systems and reward systems are needlessly expounded upon. Maps seem rather small and simplistic in comparison to the earlier titles. The charm and whimsical dialogue is in short order here. It's a technically solid entry, but a disappointing sequel to a series that started off as something so special.
This game has some pretty cool RPG systems. Leveling up the various job classes is fun, and each job unlocks a different special ability on each of the characters. I also like that every character has their own tree of passive upgrades. The equipment upgrading system is sort of interesting, and grid-based battles are cool. That being said, all of these systems seem like overkill in what is a very simple RPG. Progression through the game doesn't involve much exploration, and the dungeons are short. The plot is very generic, and the characters talk slightly too much. Nonetheless, Dragon Prana is a pretty fun game. However, don't use the special currency store or the game becomes way too easy.
a tried/true kemco rpg formula. some of the mechanics like weapon leveling has improved but it's starting to feel like i've played these games before.
