Reviews
One of the most influential games of all time for a reason. This collection is probably the best way to play this game on modern hardware, And this review might sound like I'm hating, but I really just don't have much to say about this game, and not in a bad way. It's just a game from 1993-1994, so it's pretty basic but still enjoyable. "DOOM + DOOM II" Story (5/10) Not much of a story here besides the end of each episode, and even those parts are kind of lame. It's not the focus of the game, and I don't think it needs to be. Level Design (8.9/10) Loved the levels in this game, and I honestly have no complaints. A lot of people complained about DOOM II's level design, but I honestly enjoyed it a little more than Ultimate DOOM's levels. Audio & Music (7.1/10) Pretty basic sound effects. The repeated sound effects for everything kind of got boring after a while, so I had to turn off the sound effects for the rest of my experience. But I really enjoy the music in both games. Gameplay & Difficulty (7/10) Fairly difficult gameplay. Really enjoy the fast movement, especially in bigger maps. The weapon variety was enough to keep me satisfied and the same goes for the enemies, game definitely had some boring levels though. Graphics (7/10) The graphics are okay, but it doesn't really matter with this game since the gameplay carries. Controls (8/10) Honestly expected the controls to be abysmal, as most games from this era tend to have, but they were actually really simple. Felt weird not being able to look up or down for a little, but then I got used to it. Performance (10/10) The game ran really well, never crashed, and my framerate was smooth the entire time. Value (9.8/10) The content of the game is well worth the $2 I paid for it, but even without the sale I'd probably still spend $10 for this. Good replayability since u can add community-made mods, and some of them are really cool and add completely new content to the game. You'll get at the very least, 20+ hours out of this game. Final Score 7.9/10 Definitely recommend I was going to rate and review the other stuff included in this, like Final DOOM and Friends, but I think it's better if I don't. Those games definitely have their highs, but they also have their lows. For example, "Master Levels for DOOM II" kind of blows in every way. It's there for the people that crave more DOOM II, but these levels suck, dude. Then I could talk about SIGIL, which I think is a very nice change from normal DOOM. I personally didn't like "TNT: Evilution" or "The Plutonia Experiment." They were kind of like the Master Levels for me, just really boring, and a lot of the levels felt like I had already done them before. Legacy of Rust was probably one of the best of these extras, but maybe that's because it had new content unlike the others. All in all, this collection is definitely worth it, and you don't NEED to play these extra games, but I thought I'd mention how I felt about them. I'm gonna go play with myself now.
