Russia in the ‘90s. A provincial town at the edge of the crumbling Soviet Empire. A group of kids faces the disturbing horror they are unable to comprehend – the DØM RUSALOK. This is a place where the worst nightmares come true.

It is unabashedly a nostalgia porn for anyone who was growing up in Russia in the 90s. The dialogues are believable, the situations - understandable, the otherwise purposeless close ups of items most of us had or at least often saw tickle the nostalgia bone. The atmosphere of a nice urban legend carries this pretty far. The gameplay is very much assessible and fun, think The Cat Lady. At some point things start getting ridiculous, and personally I don't appreciate the direction it leads the story to. Not even sure I understood the ending, and as such, it didn't leave any emotional impact on me. Thinking back to it, I can see it explained in two different ways, and would consider neither fitting or good. Maybe it's on me and the game is deeper than I think, but personally I detest purposeful ambiguity for the sake of it.
Atmospheric and interesting game out of a culture that is very different to my own. There isn't a lot of puzzles, outside of finding an item that fits into a thing somewhere else, but you don't mind as you are gently being moved from one ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up thing, to the next. Your friends in the game feel natural, their banter says a lot about each of their personality and you come to care about these oddballs. The storyline is engrossing and keeps you both guessing and wanting more. Heartily recommended.
This is a fantastic 3-4 hour point and click horror game with a rarely seen setting, kids that act like kids and are believable, fantastic atmosphere and sound design, and some really disturbing imagery. The story was also intriguing and leaves the player thinking about the meaning of the game. An excellent first game from Yakov Butuzoff, clearly a passion project and is well worth a look.
Intriguing and effective at the best of times, Dom Rusalok has the potential to be a very enjoyable experience for the right person - so long as a few bumps in the road can be overlooked regarding the gameplay. All in all, I can recommend this. Full video review here; https://youtu.be/w-XgQfSI6aQ
I find this game brillant and it's ending too It catches atmosphere perfectly, it makes player think by not giving direct answers, lot of easter eggs, i enjoyed reference to famous old "cursed video" "БЕ3Н0ГNМ", mostly unknown outside russian internet. There was couple of bugs, like code sometimes not working from the first try on ingame computer, but it is more about journey, not action. My thoughts on ending SPOILERS AHEAD! Serial killer Sudarushlin never existed, he was made up by government to hide all victims of "Experiment". Scientists found some "Sphere" (shown in many moments of game - on video, CPU screen, end scene). "Sphere" is something from other dimension, discovered and used for centuries by ancient tribes. It can fulfill wishes, but, like written in reports, it needs sacrifices. After "devouring" sacrifices, their meat became contaminated by "spores" and started to form "structrures" studied in the secret institute. This "things", former animals or even humans bacame malignated piles of meat, making sounds of sirens, hypnotyzing for people. Scientists also tried to make wishes of better world to Sphere, but seems to be unable to formulate correctly, or please it properly. After project was closed, "Sphere" started to catch people by itself, using "sirene's songs", that hypnotized poor boy from that house and Masha. So, sphere catches all protagonist's friends, and considers them as new"sacrifice", so when he talking to sphere by phone and make a wish to go home, sphere sending him home, but it means death to all of his friends, they all become new "Sirens", meat shapes making sounds to attract new victims. So, to hide missing people and "Experiment", authorities blame random teacher who was innocent, or, maybe killed only once. This is story from summing up all documents iside game.
