Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time

I don't understand the mostly negative reviews, so I am here to correct it. It's a fun little goofy game that I enjoyed my time with if I have nothing better to do. Yes, it's a little slow phased but that's find for the kind of game it is. It's more or less a sandbox puzzle kind of idea where you are free to design some wonky crazy contraptions and cars to go through obstacles like high ledges, gabs, spikes, etc. It's the kind of game you would play on a boring holiday whilst the blizzard storm rustles the trees outside. Although I got this game within a humble bundle for like a dime, so I guess that makes it worth it. But $5 though? Ehhh I'm not too sure about that one, chief.

This is an interesting premise which seeks to push beyond the very, very tired retro 2D platformer schema which is glutting Steam. Instead of jumping from platform to platform, you assemble various junk to progress through the game. Unfortunately the implementation is completely off and there's a lot of reasons this one falls far short of the mark. It's buggy and there's frequent CTDs. There's no 4K support and in 1080p the game has terrible overscan/DPI issues which prevent it displaying properly unless you muck around with the application compatibility settings. Controls aren't fun, instead they're sluggish which makes the whole game feel unpleasantly sluggish. Many of the puzzles and assembly items bug out, causing you to have to retry simply because the game isn't well polished to the point of having serious flaws which should never exist beyond beta testing. On a more aesthetic note, the artwork isn't terrible but the scripted dialogue is painful. It might be amusing for young children to read. Lack of 4K support is a problem, but even in 1080p, the game looks fuzzy and awful because of the low resolution game assets. Overall, they want $5 for a faulty, unpolished 2D puzzle platformer... I can't recommend this.

バンドルセットに入っていて長らく未プレイのまま積んでいたのですが、画面を見る感じ、そんな悪くなさそうなのになぜ「ほぼ不評」なんだろうと不思議に思ったのでプレイしてみました。最初に画面解像度を設定するランチャーが起動しますが、フルスクリーンOffを選択したら選択した時点でランチャーが必ず落ちます（OSはWin10、モニターは4K）。仕方ないのでフルスクリーンで起動してみましたが画面の横4分の1くらいの範囲が画面の外に表示されて見えません。4：3でも16：9でも同様です。←この二つの不具合はインストールフォルダにあるDoc Clock.exeのプロパティから互換性タブを開いてWindows7互換モードにして、高DPIスケール設定の上書きを「アプリケーション」にしたら解決しました。高DPIスケール設定の方だけでも大丈夫かもしれません。 古いから仕方ないのかもしれませんがプレイを開始する前に印象が悪くなりました。冒頭部分だけ見ましたが、マジックハンドの操作感は悪くないし、キャラの台詞が吹き出しで表示されたりしてグラフィックデザインは悪くはないんですけどね（絵柄にクセがあってキモいと感じる人も多いでしょうけど）。

It's bad.

Surprisingly not as bad as it looks in other reviews, but does not meet the bar of a good game either. It's a clunky, but somewhat interesting indie concept, so try it if you're absolutely bored and have no other games to play (which is unlikely the case in 2023). "Interesting idea" is the only reason I'm giving it a 'positive' review, assuming you can always get always get a refund if you dislike the game.
