Great!!!
My first RPG in over 20 years. It is excellent. It has very nice graphics, a good story, and it is not overly addictive.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 - DE is an isometric, turn-based RPG. The story goes like this: you used to be incredibly powerful, but then they put you in shackles, stripped you of your source, and basically told you to get to work because the sun is still high. Oh, and meanwhile, the gods are screaming in your ear that you’re the Chosen One and all that jazz. Playtime: 70-80 hours. I ended up dropping it during Act 3 (or more likely around Act 2.5). The Short Answer: Is It Worth Buying? Only if you are a die-hard fan of this specific genre. Honestly, I’d just buy Baldur's Gate 3 instead of Divinity. Mechanics and Combat: 4/10 The core mechanics are built like your standard isometric RPG: you run around, complete quests, and hoard loot. The spells and items are executed exactly as they should be—absolutely top-tier stuff. Fast travel and similar systems are pretty much "like everywhere else." Where the game truly shines is its puzzles. There are some seriously awesome mechanical puzzles here that, in my opinion, are a cut above anything found in BG3. There are even cool environmental secrets that require actual brainpower to figure out (similar to the chair trick in BG3). Combat is built around Action Points (AP). Every action consumes a set amount of AP, and you regenerate a specific number of points each turn. It’s not a bad system, but personally, I preferred the combat style used in Baldur's Gate. Also, the physical/magical armor system is just straight-up atrocious. Balance and Difficulty: 3/10 The game's balance is tuned very weirdly. Even with a 100% completionist run—fully clearing maps and doing every single side quest—by Act 2.5 or 3, I still felt like a basic skeleton holding a spear. Sure, you have decent HP and damage on paper, but even standard, trash mobs feel like full-blown bosses, and the game throws a ton of them at you. Mind you, this isn't on a hardcore mode; this is just on Regular difficulty. Personally, I’m not down for this kind of tedious slog. Even with a modded layout expanding my hotbar to 8 Action Points to make things easier, I still couldn't pull through. The game practically forces a very rigid playstyle. If you gather a diverse, ragtag party hoping to just wing it and win, forget it—you will get obliterated. The only way to survive is to build a party where EVERYONE focuses on breaking the exact same armor type (either pure physical or pure magical). In any other scenario, progressing is simply impossible. Graphics: 7/10 Classic isometric view. Music:7/10 Very solid. It changes depending on the area and is curated beautifully. Some tracks are just straight-up incredible. Personal Take The skills themselves are awesome, and the items are plentiful, though only a handful are actually unique or cool. The story is just... okay. Ultimately, if you want something significantly more punishing and complex, go with Divinity. If you want a smoother, more arcade-like and accessible experience, just play BG3. Overall Score: 62/100
As always, Larian delivers an amazing RPG. At this point I dont know how I could possibly consider an RPG from any other developer. First class stuff!
