As someone who LOVES "Number go up.", I HAAAAAAAAAATE this. Being able to do tens of thousands of damage within the first couple hours doesn't feel good- it feels cheap. Worst Disgaea I've ever come across.
Its sadly not very good. Im a huge fan of this series and I have played them all. This one just feels rushed and not a lot of effort was put into it. The story is ok nothing that really grabs you its just serviceable. Disgeae is well known for having whacky characters that are usually insane or funny or just over the top. The only character i really liked and found entertaining was Melodia, her constant singing could be funny at times. Things have really been stripped down here. The Item world is kind of pointless now outside of to get soem innocents. leveling your weapons is kind of pointless as the stat increases you get from leveling and the Juice bar just make in pointless. The character classes you can oick to create is very stripped down. No more Chara world which in Disgaea 5 i really enjoyed the board game aspect of it. The land of carnage is just 5 stages Leveling is now moved up to 99,999,999 which sounds great but really all they did was make it so you level faster. Durring the story mode you really dont have to go grind or do anything extra as its really easy to beat the story mode. Post game content isnt much of anything i mean normally you get a bunch of characters to unlock, all you get is Floann, Laharl, and Etna. thats it , every other character is DLC. I dont like how they messed with Staticians which were vital in leveling fast now you only can have one stack that will be of any use. They have also amde it to where all the exp you get goes into a pool and all characters on the map share it which i actually like and they have added an auto play mode for grinding which is nice but really leaves you doing nothing. out of the 240hrs i have into this game id say 160hrs at least was just turning my Asus Rog Ally on and letting it run all day on auto to grind levels. This is probably the worst Disgaea game in the series. Its just so bare bones on a game thats usually packed with stuff to do thats fun. If you are new to the series i recommend going and trying 4 or 5. This is one i'd say skip unless you are a die hard Disgses fan that just needs more of the series. even then wait for a sale.
Disgaea 6 is Disgaea the Lazy. Where do I start ? They've multiplied all values by a thousand. This doesn't make the game more exciting it just makes the stats more difficult to read. The story changes half way through from a bleak revenge story to a mess basically. By the end all logical coherence has gone out of the window. The degree of reusing of assets is nauseating. Every location has to be revisited. A/ the major enemy gets reused so often during the game it gets boring. What should have been an opportunity to create a variety of different major enemies is ignored and they all look the same and behave the same - only the stats change. Combat maps are generally dull and uninspired. What appear to be random groups of enemies approach, attack weakly, and then die. One early one features a cliff that blocks your view of the map. After a significant improvement in Disgaea 5 Item World was dull, lifeless and very repetitive. Innocent Town was identical and boring every visit. The final battle I beat first time, about turn 6 or 7, with not one of my team killed. Never on a Disgaea game. No obvious post game on conclusion. Very, very disappointing. Finish the franchise rather than put out episodes this poor. S.x.
The Disgaea series is all about finding seams in the game rules to fast-forward to overpowered, and then discovering that you're supposed to become overpowered, and there's a pile of postgame content designed to get you from OP to OP++. If you like the idea of grinding up characters, then grinding up their gear, and seeing numbers go up, but you bounced off other entries in the series because they were too tedious, D6 will probably hit your sweet spot. If you loved the previous entries, be warned that this one is less strict and requires fewer menu navigation journeys. Some of y'all will like that, some of y'all will feel like that disrespects your hard-earned thumb callouses. That's really what will determine if you should get this or D5/D7.
No Disgaea 5 is the best. Stupid game crashes often. I need to turn off the PC.
Cannot recommend this while it has bugs that undo your progress and the devs don't even care to do anything. Just check the discussions here on troubleshooting. They haven't answered anything in years. Sadly that this is my first time doing a review and it has to be a bad one... Love the series but this game with the bugs it has is a no no. Stay away from it.
If haven't played any Disgaea game before then choose one of the others. If you've played other Disgaea games you can just skip this one. I don't really care about the story, I just care about the gameplay which is a large step backwards from previous games. Disgaea 6 really doesn't add any new gameplay features and really dumbs down the existing gameplay from previous games. There really isn't any challenge to this game even if you don't use the stupid "auto play" feature.
This is definitely a bit of a twist on the normal disgaea formula, and while I enjoy it, it does have its flaws. The writing is not quite as good as other releases in the series, although the characters can be just as fun. I did not personally attach to the main character as well as I have in the past, but some of the side characters were great. It does lean fairly heavily into the auto battle aspect that they introduced in this game, and while you don't have to engage with it to complete the game, there is a lot of grinding that it can help you through. They tried a lot of changes for this game. Some worked, some didn't, and some still need some refining, but I still found it quite enjoyable.
I enjoy idle games and love SRPGs, but this this title just sucks as both a port and a game.I originally played and finished it on the Switch, where it ran horribly. I thought I’d give it another try on PC, hoping that better hardware would improve the experience. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I tried letting it idle grind twice, and both times it resulted in hard crashes on my PC. The first crash was manageable since I had an auto-save to fall back on. The second time, though, it wiped both the auto-save and my manual save from before the grind. Just... imagine losing dozens of hours of progress like that. I guess the only saving grace I have is that both times it happened, it happened early on in the campaign. For every step forward, it takes four steps back. It’s just a bad port of a bad game.
Despite everything, it still is a Disgaea game.
