Digital Diamond Baseball V9

I am a 76 yr old guy that purchased MANY sports games. I would doubt that any one on board ever heard of PURSUE THE PENNANT, which was probably one of the first pro baseball games that came out. A great game that came out many years ago. ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER ! The only person that might have knowledge might be StyxTx, who had the comment before me. I don't believe any of you younger folk would remember that game ! I still have it in my possession, and is still playable. I live in California and get to go see the Giants, Padres, Angels and the other team that I really despise ! I think you know who I am referring too ! IMO- this game has flown UNDER the radar and deserves some accolades for its many strengths! DDB V-9 is an outstanding value providing an open game engine that produces accurate season, team and player results. As-played lineups w/ player transactions and schedules are available if you're a stock replay person. Every season from the present back to 1959 have been created, and installing a season is a matter of just clicking on it. There are many other additional seasons as well. The stats package is quite good and the AI is VERY good! I like different game play options and there are many options to playing out a game: I can autoplay a complete game; I can manage one team and let the computer manager (CM) handle the opponent for a complete game; I can manage both teams for a complete game; I can let the CM play out the game inning by inning, or half inning by half inning, and pick up the game at a certain inning; I can let the CM play until a runner is in scoring position and pick up play; I can let the CM play until a run scores and pick up play, or I can simply sit back and watch the visiting and home CM's play a full game. These options really allow for someone like myself to keep an eye on every game, team and player and in so doing, immersed in a league replay. The game engine factors in lefty/righty splits for both pitcher and batter, optional ballpark effects and accounts for great and not so great fielders, factoring in not only range but error probabilities. There are two available boxscores- an old fashioned basic (my preference) and the more modern day version. I've played many, many card & dice baseball games, to know statistical accuracy when I see it and DDV V-9 delivers accuracy, especially in the area of the "outliars" such as 1960s players like Bobby Richardson and Nellie Fox, who very, very rarely ever struck out. If you're a cards and dice guy, you have the option to roll your own dice. The program uses three 9 sided dice (0-9) providing play results from 0 to 999. League averages, lefty/righty pitcher/batter splits are all factored into providing an accurate assessment of each batter/ pitcher matchup. Mark, the game designer, is the best regarding customer service, and ALWAYS replies to a gamers inquiries/ questions on the forum site. I play Strat, Replay, Inside Pitch, Diamond Mind, 4th St., OOTP and Action and DDB V-9 is SOLID! I have nothing but positive kudos for DDB V-9. Jack

I have been playing baseball games for over 50 years, tabletop and PC. I have enjoyed most. SOM had been my longest played game, over 50 years as well. It does produce pretty accurate results but DDBB has been my go to baseball game since I discovered it while it was still in it's infancy. I am a replay person and found that DDBB is the most statistically accurate game of all. One of the big things that this game has over SOMBB is the numerous options you can work with to create the type of game you want. There is a career mode as well as a mode that allows you to play along with the current season. The #1 thing this game has that none other has is A++ customer support. Whether it's through the forum or through e-mail, Mark is very quick to respond as well as super fast to fix game issues. Most of the things that have been added are suggestions from players. Every season is available for FREE! What other game offers that? Player pictures and team logos can be added. Team colors can be added to your season in the PBP box and on the player boxes that are on the field. Might seem like a small thing but it definitely makes the game more enjoyable for me. You can import players from other seasons, you can create your players from scratch and you can edit the real life stats of players. New additions are added between version updates. Mark has shown his love of the game over the years and let's the customers know they are important. I hope the game continues to grow for many more years and I am proud to be a loyal customer. I definitely recommend it to any baseball lover.

The best in game baseball manager /total season game. There are no financial or any general manager aspects. No bells, whistles, or 3D graphics in a single game. There are lineup and strategy decisions that produce logical results. You feel like a true manager in game. My in game results so far are very similar to the actual MLB results in real life. Using baseball-reference.com you can download player pictures very easily. There there are also a gigantic number of free included and downloadable seasons and leagues. There is a developer who is very active in the Steam community routinely interacts with the fan base. The upgrade from version 8 that I like best is that pitcher fatigue is now based on pitch count and not batters faced.

The Best Text Sim Baseball Game of its Kind! 1. INCREDIBLE VALUE! All the seasons are FREE and custom draft leagues are very easy to set up. Want to see Ty Cobb face off against Gerrit Cole? Or how would Mike Trout do against Sandy Koufax? This can be easily done. The whole setup is fast and intuitive. And there are no extra charges unlike other baseball games which nickel and dime you for any extra season or player. 2. Statistical realism! Included in the game is a transparent mathematical formula of how batter/pitcher matchups are resolved and it makes sense! Certain games don't reveal their formulas and the cross era stats can be way out of wack . Or there are board game conversions which do reveal their formulas, but often times a statistical matchup in a game will be resolved just by reading the batters card and the pitcher is not even factored in. What fun is that? Every matchup in digital diamond baseball involves the hitter, pitcher and fielder. It seems obvious that this should be done, but many other baseball text sims don't do this. When looking over the stats at the end of a cross-era season, the stats are believable. 3. A worthy computer manager! So many other text sims get this wrong. Too many sacrifice bunts, or intentional walks that don't make sense or leaving a pitcher in to get shelled and then immediately pinch hitting for him the next inning. This doesn't happen in DIgital Diamond. The cpu manager is a worthy opponent and is customizable to play a more traditional type of baseball or a more analytical type of baseball. 4. Great customer service!! Mark, the creator of the game, is open to suggestions to the game and is very prompt with questions on email. I had a question on how to customize the play-by-play and he helped me by email and was just generally terrific. (another fantastic feature that other games don't have. Some games allow you to kind of customize some of calls. This game allows people to FULLY customize ALL aspects of the play by play). I highly recommend this game. If you are interested in cross-era play, dream matchups and becoming the next Connie Mack, then this is the game for you!

Great game! Fun to play and quite accurate. After you buy the game you can download any season for free. Can't beat free!

I am a long time player of baseball sims such as Out of the Park Baseball. I tried this game starting in version 8 and now that this version (Version 9) is out I am no longer even bothering the buy OOTP every year like I used to. The only thing this game is missing from OOTP is the GM feature where you deal with trading with the AI etc. but honestly that was just frustrating anyways. This game does replays flawlessly is so much more flexible than OOTP as far as what you can control and what you can do. Be sure to watch all of the video tutorials and it will make everything easier. BTW - With this game you don't need to buy a new game every year just in order to have the current season. It has an easy way to import the season (watch the how-to videos). Also - if you like making dream teams like me - you can pretty easily make teams with players from any year and pit them against each other. The developer is also very active in the website forums and open to suggestions. Anyways - two thumbs up from a long time OOTP player who is happy just playing Digital Diamond V9 now.

If you can accept it's flaws then get it. When it plays well it is fun. The amount of seasons you get for free is great. Also the tinkering you can do with the game engine is neat. The price also is almost unbeatable. However look to other baseball sims out there before shelling out for this one. Heck there are free ones that some consider to be better. Now in regards to specific bugs it is now V9 and you still get issues where it doesn't recognize pitchers you have brought into the game and instead goes on using whoever was in previous. It shows up in the stats too. My latest example is where I brought Don McMahon in and he pitched scoreless relief and the game did not want to recognize it in the stats and so I ended up going back and replaying things (undo feature is nice although not perfect) and this time he gave up a run. This takes you out of the moment and the fun when something like this happens. It alters what your season replay stats would have been. Also about other bugs despite what I am being told by the developer eh time and time again I have had issues when switching between managing modes. It bugs out to the point where it shows the wrong batter up, the stats end up messed up, etc. I had to kill season after season because of issues with this. The only 99.9 % of the time stable mode I have found it is to play it manager vs AI and only make subs for your own team. If you do that it will work the majority of the time. Also got to say that the developer tries to be helpful as much as possible so that is a positive but eventually what is wrong with the game falls on the developer. I don't enjoy beta testing and don't enjoy being asked to do over and over again what a paid beta tester would be asked to do. In regards to presentation / the look of this game well there are add on images you can get on the net to make it look better and there are good tutorial videos on this on the Steam page to help you but when it comes to presentation some games do it better. An example would be Replay Baseball (not available on Steam) but you are going to pay much more for that game. As for this game's community compared to the other sim baseball games out there eh the community for this is non existent. It would be nice if people that played this were more active on the message boards on their website or here but they aren't. Heck people don't even share results or anything here. Honestly give the game a go for less than 2 hours and decided whether or not you want a refund. For me from now on going forward I will take that route. Steam has a 2 hours or less or 14 day whichever comes first policy so make use of it. If they ever get rid of this then don't buy it.
