I have played versions 1-3 and I came back at the behest of a friend for IV. I have put 980hrs into this game at present. Initially the game is fun. Do the campaign its immersive. Explore the classes find your niche (combat style). The game is seasonal which is roughly 2.5 to 3 months (I have never actually looked at the exact days but this is good approximation) then a new season starts. Can you keep you hard work? Yes there is a eternal mode and each season the characters you created for the season become eternal and you get all the loot you have stored to boot. You can continue in eternal mode from there. Honestly, you wont. You will chase the next season. Chalk it up to human nature, but you will. That being said the seasons are fun and Blizzard is constantly updating and tweaking the game. This is good and also, it can be bad at times. I think this is true of season 14. Usually you get to level 70 and then push yourself in the PITS to get your glyphs to 100+ so you can unlock season level achievements and do the end game content. For the longest time this was achievable. But this season they seem to put it just beyond the reach for the mid season. The drop rate of key items has been reduced. The mythic drop rate has been lowered (eliminated) unless you were a content creator or super player. Average folks are going to be shut out now especially with the latest tweaks that in fluenced Blizzardd to do will just end up shutting the door to do the same as the elite and content players for the rest of the player base. Will you get the mats or the mythics? Sure, but I have a better chance of getting $10k in scratch offs at the gas station now. I just burned close to 100 of unique mats to upgrade a key unique to 850 to 900 and it was total bust. This is the second time I have attempted such now with the patch, I have noticed that mats and money is now a constant struggle. I find that change is just making the game less and less enjoyable to play. I don't want to take the time I have and make it suck to get to the season end just to repeat it again a few days later. If I am going to spend this much time on something and its going to be that consuming. I think I want to learn a real life skill that can benefit me. The game is to enjoy not substitute for my life. in short, the end game is now too much of a grind and the reward for that time and dedication is low success rates and drops on mats and end game items. At some point it just gets to be a pointless exercise. Kudos to the content creators. I have used them and they have been a great boone to my experience to the game. However, the developers should realize that content folks can be very much like product buyers.....trigger fish....they will praise the next great thing and Blizzard will all of a sudden feel like the general player base after a bad patch. Know that you will have to get a minimum of 150-170 paragon points to actually get all your boards up and running at a bare minimum. If you are properly geared you can then get your glyphs to legendary and push to 100. Getting your glyphs past 120 this season will probably be tough. I highly doubt you will get enough mats to crafting and the random drops to let you push your levels to the top. Some will but it will take extraordinary effort. Yes it's possible, but the the percentage of people that will achieve this is going to be less now. Hopefully Blizzard will dial these changes back a little bit so more of the general gamer population can get what is needed to see the endgame. It fun and very challenging and a experience all should get. Its the fun that makes it all worth it if Blizzard will just allow it. In short...pit and and glyph level beyond 100 is in my opinion the big change....not an issue if you can get mats and gear...but the recent changes is really making this to achieve a unfun challenge. To do this last season (13) would take an average player right up to almost literally the end of the season. I think now based on my experience it's now entirely possible that many will not achieve this same level of accomplishment in season 14. This critique is not for the few elites and content creators. The season is already over for them for the most part. This is for the larger player base whether they realize it or not at present time. So that being said, if you are just getting this game, enjoy it and do the campaigns. You can get to upper levels but you will unlikely get level 8 or 9 for the season perhaps if you group, but if you solo, its going to be literally down the last few hours of the season. That is my honest opinion and in game experience for what its worth.
