What even is the point of this game? You're a worm that eats everything in its way but no matter what you eat whether that be food, animals or dummies - everything gives +10kg and has no impact on the gameplay whatsoever. Same goes for stars. Both of these things are there just for the sake of looking at numbers go up. Beer bottles aren't any different besides the fact that for collecting them you get achievements. The only way to die here is by eating a bomb, wow, so challenging. Caveat on top is the overlapping music.
Devil Worm is a third person walking game. The player controls a worm and attempts eat everything in sight. Beware of the bombs which can kill progress. There is a bottle in each of 3 areas and these are key to the net level. Played this on my Lenovo P15 with UHD 630 graphics and Quadro T1000 graphics. Game is very playable.
Devil Worm is a lighthearted 3D arcade experience built around one wonderfully ridiculous idea: control a hungry worm, devour whatever crosses its path, and become increasingly enormous while trying not to get destroyed. Developed and published by Saylor Games, it takes inspiration from familiar snake-style mechanics but moves the concept into an open 3D environment where exploration, collecting, survival, and procedural growth all contribute to the experience. It is intentionally straightforward rather than mechanically dense, making it approachable for players looking for a casual game with an unusual sense of humor. Eating is naturally the foundation of the gameplay. The environment contains numerous things that the worm can consume, ranging from ordinary food to people and animals such as chickens and penguins. Every successful meal contributes to the creature's growth, and this happens visually through a procedural system that extends its body in real time. The immediate transformation of the worm provides a satisfying representation of progress. Instead of simply increasing a score or statistic, the player watches the creature become progressively more absurd as the session continues. This increasing size also creates an interesting relationship between success and difficulty. Growing longer is the primary objective, yet a larger body can potentially become more awkward to maneuver around dangerous areas. Bombs scattered throughout the environment represent the main threat, with contact resulting in the worm's destruction. Players therefore need to balance their appetite for rapid growth with increasingly careful navigation. It is a simple risk-and-reward structure, but one that suits the arcade nature of the game particularly well. The open-world environment prevents the experience from becoming purely about following a predetermined sequence of food. Players can roam around searching for things to consume while pursuing collectibles and attempting to remain alive. Stars distributed across the map provide an additional reason to explore. This freedom gives each session a mild sandbox quality, allowing players to decide whether they want to prioritize growth, exploration, survival, or completion objectives at any particular moment. Seven hidden bottles provide one of the more focused collection challenges. Finding all of them requires players to investigate the environment rather than simply concentrating on eating everything visible. Their connection to achievements gives completionists a clear objective beyond making the worm as long as possible. The relatively small number of bottles also keeps the challenge manageable, making it more of a treasure hunt than an overwhelming collectible checklist. Survival contributes another layer to the progression structure. Achievements reward players for remaining alive for certain periods, which means avoiding bombs becomes increasingly important as a run continues. This gives the game several complementary goals. Eating produces visible growth, survival tests movement and awareness, while collectible hunting encourages exploration. These objectives are mechanically simple, but their combination provides more direction than the premise might initially suggest. The visual style favors colorful, humorous presentation rather than realism. Watching a gigantic worm move around a 3D environment while swallowing unusual targets is inherently comedic, and the game appears comfortable embracing that absurdity. Its third-person presentation is particularly appropriate because the player can clearly observe the worm's increasing length. Growth becomes both a gameplay objective and a visual spectacle, which helps reinforce the satisfaction of a successful run. There are elements of adventure, simulation, collectathon design, hidden-object searching, sandbox exploration, and casual arcade play, although none should be mistaken for deeply developed standalone systems. Devil Worm is fundamentally a small-scale experience centered on its primary growth mechanic. Players expecting substantial storytelling, complicated character development, sophisticated combat, or a highly detailed simulation are unlikely to find those qualities here. The attraction comes from mastering a simple concept and seeing how far it can be pushed. That simplicity will ultimately determine how much enjoyment individual players receive from the game. Someone who enjoys short arcade sessions, achievement hunting, exploration, and unusual indie concepts could find its uncomplicated structure refreshing. The game does not demand extensive tutorials or knowledge of complicated mechanics before becoming understandable. You eat, grow, search, avoid hazards, and survive for as long as possible. That clarity makes it easy to pick up, although it also means long-term variety may depend heavily on how entertaining the core growth mechanic remains after repeated play. The procedural extension of the worm is arguably the most distinctive part of the design. It ensures that successful progression has an immediate physical consequence. Becoming increasingly long can turn what begins as relatively simple navigation into something more visually chaotic and potentially more difficult to manage. This escalation captures an important characteristic of classic arcade design: performing well gradually introduces additional complications rather than simply making the player more powerful. Steam Deck compatibility is currently unverified. There is no official Steam Deck Verified or Playable classification indicated for the game, so handheld functionality should not be considered guaranteed. Its straightforward control requirements and relatively modest presentation could potentially make it workable through Proton, but compatibility, performance, interface behavior, and controller support may require user adjustment. Anyone intending to play exclusively on Steam Deck should therefore approach it as an unverified title until an official compatibility assessment becomes available. Overall, Devil Worm succeeds primarily through the clarity and absurdity of its central concept. Procedural growth gives players an immediately visible reward, while bombs create danger and stars, hidden bottles, survival targets, and achievements provide reasons to explore and replay. It is unlikely to satisfy someone searching for a deep open-world adventure, but that is clearly not what it is trying to be. As a compact arcade sandbox, it offers a quirky premise with enough supporting objectives to give the basic act of eating and growing some additional purpose. Devil Worm is a simple but amusing arcade experiment whose procedural growth mechanic, open exploration, collectible hunting, survival challenges, and deliberately silly premise give it personality. Greater mechanical depth and variety would broaden its appeal, but players who appreciate casual indie games built around one memorable idea may find plenty of enjoyment in becoming the longest and most ridiculous worm possible.
