Now here’s a true hidden gem, a game I only discovered thanks to a singular recommendation I stumbled upon essentially at random. One I’m very glad I did stumble upon, as this is a game worth remembering, frustrating as it will be to recommend without spoiling anything. The writing is the game’s strongest suit. Characters are well rounded and bursting with personality, with believable arcs that drive both the plot and reinforce the story’s core message. The plot is focused, well-paced, and intriguing with clear and believable stakes. The thing I found most impressive was how the writing managed to integrate its more out-there ideas in ways that not only make a degree of sense but also slot perfectly into the ongoing narrative and are emotionally intuitive. It is fortunate that the writing is the real meat and potatoes of this experience, as the mechanics are barely worth talking about. This is a very lightweight point and click adventure with only the occasional minigame to break things up. You’ll never have more than two inventory items, your next steps are (by PnC standards) clearly signposted, and the game even includes a walkthrough in its files should you want or need one. On the flipside this keeps the focus on the story and the fun dialogue the genre is known for. Still were it not for its endings and one very memorable sequence, I would question why this needed to be a videogame at all. Speaking of: a quick peruse of the store page reveals that the game has an eye-watering 10 endings. Be not afraid, however. The multiple endings aren't just for token what-ifs and cheeky extra dialogue. All of them, good, bad, or somewhere in between, are all distinct, relatively easy to get, and carefully designed to support the central thesis of the game's message. Like its mechanics the visuals are nothing particularly special, though I did appreciate the toying around with the color palette that occurs to reinforce key moments. In conclusion a short, but charming and very well written adventure, well worth the small amount of your time and money it demands. If you like your manors mysterious, your relationships situationships, and your protagonists scorched on the trauma grill with a side of emotional baggage, give this game a go.
The kind of game you shouldn't look anything up about. Just play it blind. It is worth it.
(Received for free as compensation for helping typo check; writing a review wasn't part of the conditions but I'm doing this just for literal love of the game :D) Detective Beebo changed my life . Been obsessed with it for over a year now since playing the itchio version back in February 2025 and still going strong! There's just So many things to chew on with this game!! Excellent story, lovable and complicated characters, and a mystery that unfolds wonderfully over time draw you in, along with the funny, tumblr-esque humor that makes me want to lovingly throw the characters out a window sometimes. While giggling. It balances lighthearted and serious moments extremely well in a way that comes across as very natural and real. Everything is worth doing in this game!! Interact with everything; interact with things multiple times even, and Oliver Beebo's point-and-click self never disappoints with his dialogue. He's truly the guy ever. Each ending you can get is satisfying and meaningful, expanding on the characters and lore in different and fun ways. Even just one would give the player a satisfying end to the story, but multiply that by ten and you have ten times the satisfaction! I highly recommend playing through all the endings, especially since you unlock bonus content once they're all complete! Overall: 12/10 game, thank you Bwob for making The Characters so I can gnaw on them like a dog <3
C'était ENORME More seriously, Detective Beebo is such a good game. If you like mysteries mixed with fun and lighthearted moments, you should give this game a try! If you like being noisy and seeing everything a house as to offer (ignore the breaking and entering aspect of it all), you should give this game a try! If you like stories that explore relationships, their nuances, how quickly they can turn sour in many aspects, and how fears affect them, you should give this game a try! It's just. Such a fun game, man. So many endings that offer so much depth about humanity, feelings (whether romantic or platonic), and connection. And also the inevitable subject of death, and how to live despite it. I first played this game on itch.io more than a year ago. I proceeded to talk about it to each of my friends, encouraging them to play. A month later, my friends offered me Beebo-related thingies as a birthday gift. This year, too, I was offered Detective Beebo related gifts for my birthday. This game had such a long-lasting impact on me. It encouraged me to connect with people, I've made so many wonderful friends thanks to it, and it really helped me on a creative standpoint. Now all my irl friends call me Detective Beebo. It was such a delight to replay this game, and to discover all these little added details. They truly add a lot of depth to previous endings. The extras were such a nice and loving touch, too! All-in-all, a wonderful game that you should play :] be a Beebo, do the beebs. Go on. Learn how to analyze art. Ask that man if he's gay. It's worth it I promise
I first played Detective Beebo more than a year ago, and I loved the Steam release. Despite this being a relatively short game there's a lot to appreciate if you take it slow, and I dare say it's actually even better on a second playthrough. The new epilogues are great and adored the bonus room. Beeb on. P.S Love the train comic and would also love to see that refined into a game, no pressure though, dev!!!
(Disclaimer 1: Steam key received as a very kind very benevolent reward for volunteering to help with proofreading, but also know I bought like 7 different people a copy in compensation already -- and I might just spread more Beeb dandelion seeds at a moment's notice, so watch out!!!!!! Disclaimer 2: my playtime is a little inaccurate because I played it with my bf first and am just now replaying it for myself; the experience is closer to 5-7 hours! Would totally recommend playing it with friends tho and taking a crack at voicing lines. Trust me on this it's so fun.) I genuinely have no idea how to sum up how important this game has been to me... I first played it in its original free state over a year ago now, loooong before there were concrete plans for it to be published on Steam, and I've been obsessed with it and its charmingly complicated cast ever since. I immediately fell in love with the pixel art and aesthetics, its silly yet hard-hitting dialogue, atmospheric bgm, and intriguing mystery; by the time I got to know all of the characters and seen all the endings, I knew it was over for me. Oliver and Ángel and their wild wacky night at the mansion have taken over my mind and refuse to leave please help-- Now! I do think the game is best experienced knowing as little as possible going into it!!! I played the original release blind last year and still went into the steam release avoiding spoilers for new content left and right, and that was DEFINITELY the right choice. Whew. It's a simple point-and-click driven entirely by its story and characters, so a lot of scenes hit harder if you aren't expecting them (your heartstrings will totally thank you for all the tugging, prommy). There's so much to interact with as you make your way through the story, so do it!!! The character interactions are one of its strongest aspects. <3 And every ending may or may not emotionally destroy (or heal) you in different ways, so be sure to collect them all!!! >:) There's just a lot here that I love. Way too much for me to put into words!!!!!! Ummm my final message: Detective Beebo might get serious. It might get freaky. It might make you feel like a sad, wet cat afterward. But it's ok! It's a romcom after all :)
My autistic brain enjoyed it. 10/10
REALLY good game!!! delightful, well-realized characters, some extremely funny dialogue, and several horrendous awful punches to the gut that i thoroughly enjoyed. every part of this project is immensely charming, although I say this as an extremely biased time-loop enjoyer. get out there and beeb
i've been trying to word a review for this game for over a week. honestly, since i first played it on itch. it;s hard to say how good this game is. it's written entirely in tumblr dialect, which is totally something that would normally turn me off, but like. the entire game is so good. there is so much here. it is so good. i haven't even seen all the new content yet. hopefully i can edit this to be more succinct, but. it's so good. if you have the cash, buy this game. if you don't, consider it. it will do things to you that you wouldn't think a silly little lighthearted tone game would. bc it's so much more than that. please play this game.
this game is so wonderful and all of the characters are so incredibly well written, im so glad i randomly decided to play the old version of this game a year ago it is so charming, i love the artstyle and the interactions between the characters feel so genuine and real edit: finished playing thru all of the new content and it is sosososo worth the money the new epilogues are pawesome + the extras are reallygood :)
