Desert Of The Undead is a fast-paced action old school run n gun platformer. Though this game has taken a lot of inspiration from classic NES games it is a unique experience.

Returning from a routine business trip, John's world is shattered as he finds his serene desert town overrun by hordes of ravenous zombies.
Armed with his military training and a fierce determination to protect his loved ones, John embarks on a relentless quest to reclaim his hometown. Traverse through four intense stages, each more treacherous than the last, as you battle your way through waves of undead adversaries. From the Town outskirts, Underground Caverns, abandoned streets and mayors mansion, every corner holds a new threat.
But beware, for lurking within the shadows are formidable bosses, each possessing their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Face off against these monstrous foes in heart-pounding battles that will test your skill and strategy to the limit.
With gripping gameplay, classic 8 bit visuals, and an immersive storyline, "Desert Of The Undead" promises an unforgettable gaming experience. Desert of the Undead from Retro Bro Productions is a homebrew nes game that has been converted to run on Windows. I received a steam key from Retro Bro to test it on the Steam Deck and was able to play through the game. There is some special things to consider to play it on the steam deck if you’re interested, refer to the discussions in the community hub of the game. It is a run and gun platformer like many games from that era, split up into 4 stages. There is also Mayhem mode which is only 2 stages but ramps up the challenge. It is pretty basic in terms of the play, one button fires, one jumps, you have your pause button, and select switches ammo type. It’s a decent and short platformer, for the low price of $2 I think it’s worth it. R Sen did some good chiptunes here that fit along nicely with the 8 bit titles that once ruled the earth.
Really awesome NES indie/homebrew game! The 4 levels have variety and are fun to learn, beat and try to do quicker. The game is fair and forces you to learn some strats to get past each section safely, OG-style. When you get 10 health packs, you get a free man and there's also free men and checkpoints that are located at convenient spots. The checkpoints are not too frequent though, so make sure to learn the game slowly before trying to run through the levels. And don't forget to switch to the Super Ammo at certain difficult spots and against the bosses. Again, really cool game, highly recommend.
This is a NES Homebrew game that has been ported over to STEAM. It runs on an internal NES emulator and has some quirks because of that but aside from small bugs in the coding tools/engine I have to say that this game is a lot of fun and is very well designed. For full transparency, I should explain that I am a friend to Jon (The author) and I have helped test the game in its early stages of development. I was given a review copy. This means I have a clear bias but I think I can still offer a fairly objective point of view regarding the experience of playing Desert of The Undead. If you disagree then I would understand. I do think though that if you play this game, you will have a good time. It is challenging but its not unfair. It rewards you for slowing down and thinking as you go. The game play experience can be a little frustrating but overall I really enjoyed myself playing this. The graphics and music are very well done especially considering this is the first game that Retro Bro has ever made. The sound effects are minimal but get the job done. There is also some clever animation going on and a variety of level designs that keep things fresh. The motorcycle levels are a great change of pace as well. Overall, I have to say this game impressed me and I cant wait to see what Jon cooks up next. I think you will have a blast playing Desert of The Undead. I know I have.
Fun but simple game. Once you've beaten it it's fun to blast through quickly and there's even a small speedrunning scene. Definitely NES hard difficulty. If you like your retro games this ones worth a look!
Dear developer, Well done for making a game & getting it up on steam. Don't let your memes be dreams. Sady, this isn't really my cup of tea, but I hope you keep making things & sharing them with us. Best of luck for the future. o7
