«Christmas Cats Revenge»
Genre
Ein 2D Action Platformer
Story
Christmas Cats Revenge is a template flip from Anamik Majumdar, who keeps reskinning the same lame GameMaker Studio game templates and re-releasing it on Steam with a few minor changes. The GameMaker Studio templates he keeps re-releasing are just basic retro pixel (couldn't he rip off a template with proper graphics??) 2D top down/platformer stealth/action games. He's copied and pasted his 2D platformer template for this asset flip. Here's some other results of his copy+paste school of "game development", take a look, they're all basically the same games:

Haunted Jail: Alcatas
Ghost in the Barn House
Gaze at Maze
Smash Halloween Pumpkins: The Challenge
The Chills
Gregor Hills Haunted Hospital
Jaxon The Thief
House Number 666
My Haunted Doll
Axizon Labs: Zombies
The Haunted Exmone Theatre
Rescue Rina
The Haunted Tunnel
Heltons Haunted Hotel
Gaze At Maze
Ghost In The Barn House
Zack Y
Fight For Love
Captain: The Runner
Balloon Azuna
These are all basically the exact same GameMaker Studio game templates with a different skin and a couple of things changed. No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. No matter how many times this guy copy+pastes the same game, it's not suddenly going to become anything but garbage. Rehashing the same game over and over again is just a cheap nasty cash grab. While Anamik Majumdar occasionally breaks Valve guidelines for partners and attacks reviewers, any legitimacy he may have is eracticated by the way he pumps these copy+paste asset flips out and bulk sells keys to crapware bundle merchants like DailyIndieGame. It's also important to note Anamik Majumdar has denied using GameMaker Studio to make his asset flips, despite every single one being made with GameMaker Studio. It's unclear why Anamik Majumdar has been misleading about these templated cash grabs. As usual, my recommendation is to never give money to asset flippers and construction kit copy+paste cash grabs, so don't reward this one.

Christmas Cats Revenge is the kind of indie platformer that immediately stands out because of how unapologetically strange and charming its concept is. Developed and published by Anamik Majumdar, the game blends retro arcade gameplay, holiday-themed environments, cartoonish chaos, and fast-paced side-scrolling action into an experience that feels like a forgotten arcade game rediscovered from another era. At first glance, the combination of Christmas imagery and revenge-driven cats sounds absurd, but the game fully commits to its unusual premise with enough confidence that the bizarre concept becomes one of its greatest strengths. Rather than trying to present a serious narrative or modern cinematic adventure, Christmas Cats Revenge focuses entirely on delivering colorful arcade-style entertainment inspired by classic platform shooters from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. The result is a game that may not be technically groundbreaking, but it succeeds through creativity, personality, and a clear love for retro action design. The story takes place during a chaotic Christmas season where a group of cats rise against oppressive forces that threaten their world and freedom. The holiday setting gives the game a unique atmosphere rarely seen in retro-inspired platform shooters. Snow-covered landscapes, decorated environments, festive lighting, and Christmas-themed scenery are constantly contrasted against dangerous military-style zones, enemy invasions, traps, and large-scale combat encounters. The narrative itself is intentionally simple, functioning mostly as a framework for the action, but the sheer weirdness of the premise gives the game an identity that is difficult to forget. Instead of relying on generic fantasy or science-fiction themes, the game creates a strange blend of festive charm and arcade violence that feels oddly refreshing within the indie platforming scene. One of the game’s strongest features is its visual style. Christmas Cats Revenge embraces pixel-art aesthetics completely, using colorful environments and exaggerated effects to create a lively arcade atmosphere. Snowy forests, Christmas villages, enemy compounds, industrial facilities, underground hideouts, and trap-filled landscapes all appear throughout the campaign, giving the adventure a surprising amount of visual variety despite its indie scope. Bright explosions, flashing projectiles, cartoonish enemy sprites, and festive decorations constantly fill the screen, making every stage feel energetic and active. The graphics are naturally limited compared to more expensive indie productions, but the game’s art direction carries a strong nostalgic charm that successfully recreates the feeling of older side-scrolling arcade adventures. Gameplay revolves around classic run-and-gun platforming mechanics mixed with environmental hazards and enemy-heavy combat encounters. Players move through dangerous levels while fighting hostile enemies, avoiding deadly traps, collecting resources, and surviving increasingly difficult platforming challenges. The controls are generally responsive enough to support the game’s fast pacing, and movement feels satisfying once players adjust to the arcade-inspired rhythm. Combat emphasizes constant motion because enemies attack aggressively and environmental hazards often appear at the same time as combat encounters. This combination forces players to stay alert and carefully balance offensive attacks with defensive movement. The game’s combat system may appear simple at first, but its arcade pacing makes it consistently entertaining. Enemies arrive frequently, projectiles fill the screen during larger encounters, and later levels require increasingly precise movement to survive. The action never becomes overly complicated, which actually works in the game’s favor because it captures the straightforward design philosophy of older arcade shooters where reflexes and memorization mattered more than deep mechanics or progression systems. Different attack types and enemy formations help keep encounters engaging throughout the campaign, and the increasing challenge curve creates a satisfying sense of progression as players improve their timing and understanding of the mechanics. Level design is another area where Christmas Cats Revenge performs surprisingly well. The game avoids feeling completely repetitive by constantly introducing new combinations of hazards, enemies, and platforming layouts. Some stages focus heavily on combat against large enemy groups, while others emphasize precise jumps, trap avoidance, and environmental navigation. Moving platforms, spikes, collapsing floors, projectile traps, and enemy ambushes all appear regularly throughout the adventure, creating sections that genuinely require concentration and quick reflexes. Hidden collectibles and useful resources scattered throughout the stages also encourage exploration, rewarding players who carefully investigate each environment instead of simply rushing toward the end goal. Enemy variety contributes positively to the overall pacing. Basic enemies gradually give way to stronger and more aggressive opponents that require different movement strategies and attack timing. Certain enemies attack from long range using projectiles, while others rush directly toward the player or appear alongside environmental hazards to create more chaotic encounters. The game occasionally introduces larger enemy encounters and boss-style battles that serve as major highlights within the campaign. These moments may not be mechanically complex, but they successfully create exciting difficulty spikes that reinforce the game’s arcade identity and give players memorable challenges to overcome. The soundtrack deserves recognition for how effectively it blends festive themes with arcade action energy. Upbeat electronic music combined with holiday-inspired melodies creates a strange but enjoyable atmosphere that perfectly matches the game’s unusual identity. The soundtrack constantly maintains momentum during platforming sections and combat encounters, while sound effects such as explosions, attacks, and item pickups use exaggerated arcade-style audio design to enhance the sense of chaos during gameplay. The audio presentation overall may be simple, but it reinforces the game’s personality extremely well. What makes Christmas Cats Revenge particularly admirable is understanding the scale of its development. Like many of Anamik Majumdar’s projects, the game was largely created by a solo developer handling the programming, graphics, animation, and gameplay systems personally. That reality changes how the experience feels because the game constantly reflects the enthusiasm of someone deeply passionate about retro arcade gaming. The project never feels cynical or trend-driven. Instead, it feels like a sincere attempt to recreate the spirit of classic side-scrolling platform shooters while adding a bizarre holiday-themed identity that makes it stand out from more generic indie releases. For fans of retro-inspired platform shooters, quirky indie games, and arcade-style action adventures, Christmas Cats Revenge offers a fun and energetic experience filled with chaotic combat, festive environments, and old-school gameplay challenge. Its technical limitations, repetitive enemy behavior, and lack of polish prevent it from reaching the highest tier of indie platformers, but the passion and creativity behind the project still make it enjoyable for players who appreciate smaller indie passion projects. It succeeds as both a tribute to classic arcade platformers and a bizarre holiday-themed action game with enough personality to leave a lasting impression. Rating: 6/10
