A 10/10, super fun, arcade-y game with trains, tracks, and tricks. You are a ramen delivery girl who one day woke up and chose violence against the greedy corporates of a post-apocalyptic Japan in the most stylish way possible. Gameplay – Fast-paced, reaction-based, with a hint of pattern recognition. You take control of gravity-defying trains and do tricks in the air, on the ground, underwater, underground, and heck, even on fish, to name a few. The trick list is vast and graded based on difficulty; more difficult tricks yield higher points. And the crazy part is that these tricks only account for about 10% of the fun; you acquire abilities as you progress, which keeps the gameplay fresh. Boss fights are very creative and extremely enjoyable. Music – Amazing! Characters – A bit shounen, though everyone is likable in their own way. Visuals – Bright and colourful. Love the in-between cutscenes. Steam Deck Specific – Unfortunately, there is no 16:10 aspect ratio, so it runs at 720p. Default settings run at a locked 60 fps. Although the game allows for 75 and 90 fps, I would not recommend pushing it that high. The single thing I like most about this game is its creativity; things never feel stale, and the fun keeps on coming. :D
A superb, joyful, charming, beautiful game that oozes style and soul. It's visually stunning, the soundtrack is superb, the characters and their designs are fun, the story is full of heart, the game overflows with love and appreciation for Japanese culture... but you probably knew that already. What you might not know - what you can't truly appreciate without playing the game - is that Denshattack!'s gameplay hits the same high highs as its exquisite vibes. When I started the game (having already played the demo for a bit), I was relatively indifferent about its gameplay. For me, the gameplay being good was secondary to enjoying the vibes. It didn't take long for me to change my mind. Denshattack!'s gameplay is masterfully crafted to keep you engaged, improving, and pushing your limits from start to finish. The stages are dynamic and unapologetically ridiculous at times, the boss fight designs are some of the best I've seen, and there's a lot of replay value built into the Dares and Medals systems. It's impossible to get bored; the only time I can put the game down is when I need a break from its wonderful chaos. My only very minor complaint about the game is regarding user experience when replaying levels - there's no option to skip tutorials you've seen before, and you have to manually skip cutscenes and dialogue. There's so much more I could say about how incredible this game is, but nobody has time for that so I'll end on this: Denshattack! is one of the best games I've ever played.
