No inventory access that I can see, no chance to rest and heal, and no map. I don't mind the map. We used to grab graphing paper and draw a map. Not a problem. The rest is lame. You find a potion. You do not know what the potion looks like. There is no description. Blue? Pink? Orange? You can drink it there on the spot, or where does it go if you do not? No idea. Again, I say Bard's Tale 1 was more sophisticated. You made it compatible with newer systems without offering any quality-of-life changes.
Good game
intereting gameplay you wont find anywhere else. difficult but managable if you hold the line and grind a bit
Cool aesthetic and sound. Minimalist dungeon crawler rpg gameplay with a pretty tough start. Get into the vibe and push through some early party member deaths and you can get lost in the game for hours. Read the manual, map the dungeon as you go, rest when you can and run from battles if you must. Great for what it is but I would love to see this concept expanded on in a sequel. This definitely feels like a demonstration for a bigger and slightly more involved game. Totally worth a couple bucks if this looks like your kind of thing.
Resumiendo: DRAGON RUINS > DEMON LORD REINCARNATION
Very nice visuals and gameplay that are minimalist but not boring or bland. While it doesnt have deep lore or a story at all, it keeps you entertained, relaxed or stressed enough. Give it a chance, it worth it. It is also a nice contrast to the constant synaptic overload that other games are.
Demon Lords Reincarnation is a really simple dungeon crawler. Cons: It has no item management, no skill management, no automap, no hunger, no save system. Does nothing new to the genre of dungeon crawlers, no story, no progression, player has no real impact on how the combat plays out beside dispell spells, no skill trees, level scaling enemies. The amount of damage you receive is random. Your characters just die over and over again. The gameplay is the definition of insanity, do the same thing again and again and hope that the outcome is different. You have to draw your own maps. Simple grafics, the enemies are just simple black or white portraits, no animations. Pro: I like the simple but elegant display of the dungeon levels. Conclusion: Combines the worst features of the genre without any quality of life features. There are two ways to progress your character: One is combat, you get random levelups like health, mobility, dexterity that seems to have influence on the outcome of combat. The second is finding items in random chests. But the items have a random chance to be good or bad. You can easily make your character worse by finding and equipping random stuff in the dungeon. There is no equipment window to equip items, they are just added to your stats or substracted. Is too expensive for this kind of simple game. You can get way better games like Realms of Antiquity, Nox or the old goldbox classics for less money. I really would dig a game that is influenced by the old Mordor: depths of dejenol or Demise: Rise of Ku'tan. But with more beef please. Thanks for reading have a nice day.
I do not like this as much as the Dragon Ruins games, especially the 2nd one. This predates them and this is a good early attempt at what those later games were able to do. Some of what is lacking here has been fixed in those later games. If you are a fan of Wizardry-like dungeon crawlers, go with the Dragon Ruins games. However, if you love those and want to see what led to their creation, this may pique your curiosity and worth a look. But I would wait for a sale. I think the price is a bit too steep for what you get compared to the other games, which are just a few dollars more. Dragon Ruins II is, by far, the best bang for your buck.
I really wanted to like this game as the overall vibe and soundtrack fascinates me but i quickly realized that fights are heavily RNG based, your chars die very often and youre also ending up in these healing-fight encounter circles and thats just not a very fun experience after all.
