Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten (DX edition)

tl;dr Despite the now frequent crashes in the DX edition, you should get it if it's on sale and you like a tower defense genre game with a good story. I'll be honest, I couldn't even tell you when I got this game. Probably circa 2012 when it came out and I was really into tower defense games. Add a good story and female protag to that and I'm hooked. Recently came back to it because I saw the second one had released and I sunk like 7 hours of my day into this. It's crashing every hour or so, which is new, and I'm certainly not feeling particularly completionist on this go around which can get really grind-y as I recall, but I'm really enjoying the story and dialogue and gameplay all over again, so I'll definitely be seeing it through to the end in any case. For (probably) $15 I've gotten nearly 40 hours of enjoyment out of this game and by the time I finish this playthrough (and possibly the NG+ on this save file, we'll see) I'll probably be closer to 50. The last movie that I saw that was worth $15 was Iron Lung, and that was only like 3 hours of movie, so I'd say this one is worth it.

I am really enjoying this Tower Defense TD game. The Heroes and Writing feel great. Do know there are some random bug issues (like hiring heroes and their appearance changing) or random crashes. The latter little more annoying, but unless doing an endless run the game autosaves frequently enough you shouldn't lose progress. Side note, be sure to READ THE JOURNAL. Adds more entertaining context to the game

Simple, but fun. Surprisingly for me the highlight was the story, it's not that complex but is engaging enough. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Clearly a competent tower defence game from gameplay perspective, but the amount of crashing was unacceptable. Major positives and negatives as follows: + The basic tower defence mechanic is fine and is enjoyable. Nothing super original, though. Melee, ranged, elemental, slow and damage-over-time are here for those familiar with the genre. Does its job, and gets addicting for a while. - The story seemed semi-interesting at first, but the "humorous" tone rubbed me the wrong way, so I started skipping cutscenes. Safe to try on sale, but perhaps not the gem many make it out to be.

One of the best TD games of all time.
