Defend the Cake

I'm a fan of tower defense games and this is by far one of the cutest and most addicting I've played in a long time! Each different cake you defend is adorably unique, as are the attackers! BEWARE THE SEGWAY ANTS! Those speedy little guys can ruin a perfect run pretty quick... After you finish each level you can play it again defending against infinite hoards of bugs for a high score, so I like that even when the story mode is done there still is quite a bit of work left to do if you want to climb the leaderboards! I would definitely recommend this game to fans of tower defense games, or really anyone looking to play something cute and fun ^_^

This game is anything BUT a piece of ‘cake’! Totally unbalanced and waaayyy too hard! Absolutely no different than most TD games that you will ‘bake’ for just a few hours of gameplay, until you realize you’re not having fun and move-on to much ‘batter’ games! Extremely scarce resources and very limited building space options just add an extra ‘layer’ of boringness and make this game a real ‘muffin’! And the ‘icing’ on top is those terribly annoying sounds the little creatures make non-stop during the game (!) You can find a much better ‘treat’ elsewhere. This one will only leave you with a sour 'taste'!

This is not a game you would expect to be so well designed but it's got some serious chops to its design. Don't let the slightly cheap graphics deter you, (extremely endearing and personable graphics that they are though), this is refined and tasty little tower defense game with some elegant refining of the classic game play elements. The build/attack cycle, the way upgrades work, the way "spells" work; these all have simpler but far better ways of working than classic tower defense. I especially like how you don't have choose between spending money on a "spell" or building a tower, which is a choice that never really worked that well. As well giving you all the time and infomation to make you decisions when building means in the attack phase you can be enitrely focused on when to active the "spells" and it makes a lot of difference when you use or don't use them. So to be clear this a tower defense where you will be entirely engaged the whole time, either because it's the build phase and you have as much time as you like to plan things out, or its the night time "attack phase" where you are trying to frantically best use your spells. (I keep saying spells, but it's temp tower upgrades that function very similiar to the classic spells in tower defense, except these are a lot more ingenius in how they work) There's some smart as features like full money on a building cancel , and immediately showing you the path of attack that mean you never feel cheated when things go wrong. [b]Note: As this is a small indie game, the review will not be as long as others for big games such as Ylands. Apologies[/b] Defend the Cake is a step-by-step Tower defense. Before playing it, I was like, "Another BTD5 copy ugh ;-;". I was completely wrong. You start off with a basic tutorial which teaches you how to place things, start each wave and more. You place the cake on a small map wherever you want away from the ant hill. Yep basic. You have to protect yourself against enemy waves. Yep basic. Then it starts to get a bit difficult. Every level you may have a chance of unlocking a new enemy which could screw up your self-confidence. There will be more and more bugs. From worms that cannot be hit from time to time to snails that have armor to much more! This game keeps your eyes attached to the screen for a while. Really strong and fun early access tower defense game. * Has good progression of different types of enemies with different abilities (fast, armored, flying, burrowing, building jumping, etc) * Interesting mechanic where the bugs get to the cake and then go back along a ground path (which would only be different if they are flying/jumping.) * Fun different building types that balance different tradition TD buildings with some fun modifications (fast, slow, aoe, high damage single target). * Interesting boss enemies with different mechanics. * Pretty easy to complete a level, but has a nice visual representation of if you were able to protect the cake without any insects touching it, which I have yet to fully complete. If you like a Tower Defense then is a fun replayable and cheap game, my only wish is that it was 3 times the price with three times the content as 18 levels left me wanting to play a lot more.

My favorite aspect is the unique mechanic of limited actions. In between rounds, you only have four (later six) eggbirds to build, upgrade, or gain extra resources. While you can undo immediate actions, you cannot sell or move towers later. During a round, your only action is to temporarily power up towers, then wait a few seconds for the recharge. This might sound limited, but especially in later levels, it keeps you busy with quickly deciding when and on which tower to use your power best. The maps are very open, giving you many different options to figure out the best set up by replaying a level. The art style is not for me, personally, but also doesn't turn me off. Overall, the game is all about strategy and planning ahead, which can make it frustrating at first, but more enjoyable on replays. As a fan of strategy and tower defense games, I love it.

I have played a lot of tower defense games, and so far this is one of my favorites. The art style is endearing and incredibly cute, I enjoy the challenge of the strategic elements, and score attack mode is hilarious. Also: grasshoppers with jetpacks and snails with rockets! Definitely check out this game.

This is the worst kind of game for backseat gaming. I watched someone else playing this and I was nearly in pain from how much I disagreed with their moves. So much so that I ended up getting the game myself. And let me tell you: I have not regretted it. Don't let the cutesy graphics fool you. This game is dead serious. Cake is serious business. This is a fun strategy game, that'll have you invested in the well being of your cake(that you are building traps around to protect from insect) in no time. It's not a huge game by any accounts, but it's certainly fun and the competitve element to it(with "score attack" you can see how your traps hold up compared to other playersI the price is more than justified.

I just finished my first playthrough of Defend the Cake's 18 levels, and I am very excited to go back and play through all the levels again. This is certainly one of the best tower defense games I have ever played, and is on par with Kingdom Rush and Plants vs Zombies. Defend the Cake is relatively easy to beat if you don't care if some of your cake is taken by ants or rocket powered snails, but difficult if you're trying to get a perfect score. The aspect of Defend the Cake that distinguishes it from other tower defense games is that all 6 towers have their own purpose and no single tower feels overpowered. I highly recommend purchasing this game if your're a fan of strategy tower defense games.

Tolles Spiel! Ich stehe auf Kuchen. Und ich mag auch dieses Spiel. :-) 18 nette Level + 3 Bonuslevel. 100% Spielstand ist machbar, aber Bedarf ein wenig Planung. Tipp: Nutzt den Zurück-Schalter, falls etwas nicht geklappt hat, dann braucht man nicht den Level neu starten. Hatte ich die ersten 12 Level übersehen. LOL Tipp2: Wer absolut nicht weiterkommt, kann bei Youtube eine Lösung anschauen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBFUsLF_ofU Das Spiel bietet eine Bestenliste, mit der man seine Verteidigung gegen andere User testen kann. Hab aus Versehen gleich beim ersten Mal Platz 1 gemacht. Sorry. ^^ Fazit: kaufen kaufen kaufen !!!
