Deathly Dangerous is more Russian GameMaker Studio garbage being shoved on Steam by HugePixel. This time it's a low quality console-like 2D top down shooter/brawler... of course HugePixel couldn't work out how to make twin-stick like controls work, so the whole thing is a clunky mess. You do get some upgrades, but this is pointless given the frustrating design of the game, poor gameplay and dismal technical execution. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game features simple, cartoony 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort mobile apps. 3D graphics programming does require a degree of skill and competence and unfortunately not all developers have the budget or talent to deliver this, despite 3D graphics cards hitting the mainstream in the 1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. PC gamers will be insulted by the presence of console peasant children's toy controller prompts, despite this being on PC. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're developing for. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs. A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", HugePixel has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players, and these were the accounts the developer used for the fake/paid reviews. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Warning: Review Manipulation!
This game features a number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. Deathly Dangerous is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
A straightforward action game where you must eliminate enough enemies to advance to the next level. Despite the fact that the game is marketed as a shooter, melee scythe attacks end up being more effective because they hit with a broad swipe. Furthermore, the controls don't operate in a twin-shooter fashion, making it challenging to get the perfect shot. The main goal of most stages is to eliminate all enemies, but occasionally you also need to accomplish things like close portals that continually create enemies. Because you have to drag an extremely slow ball to the portal, these stages aren't very good. The fact that you must always stay close makes things worse; if you stray too far, it will stop following. Progress can’t be lost. Dying just requires you to restart the current level and keep trying until you succeed. The following stage may be made even more challenging, though. Health is carried over to the next stage along with everything else you've acquired, such as ammo and souls that act as currency. The problem happens if you finish the stage with only a few health bars. Because health drops are rare, this means you will be stuck with that health the entire stage. It’s possible to turn a difficult stage into an chore that never becomes fun again. Achievement are currently not working.
Achievements do not work at the time of release! :( About the game. Finally, a nice picture in an indie game! No pixelation. Thought I was a simple game, click and win, but no. The game is let's just say doom in 2d. After more than 5 deaths in the first location, I approached the game from a different angle. You have to behave very carefully. Dying will be private, not enough first-aid kits. Clean up small locations from mobs and go to the next location with different traps, obstacles and quests. During the game, cheerful music is playing, which sets the pace of the game.
https://youtu.be/hZEysdYiR18 Without the ability to fix the control issues the basics of the game are not comfortably playable.
Simple game to kill demons playing as death but in most times demons will kill us (unlike we are death we already died)
I think I found a small bug: The mouse pointer can't be seen when a controller is connected. (Happened when I started the game with the controller already connected, tried to play with the mouse but the pointer was not visible.) Also, it would be nice to hear the gun reloading.
the graphics are bright, and the music sets the mood clear areas of monsters to unlock new weapons perfect for a relaxing game after work
Deathly Dangerous is a fun shooter with challenging levels and cool weapons. The graphics and music are great
The game is great, nice drawn graphics, not pixel, which is already boring, and the music is of course chic.
