Great game
Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase. Quick score: 3/5 Notes: The game starts off pretty good, but by the end it feels like development was cut way short of what was initially planned. The story feels about 25% complete and ends very abruptly, but in terms of gameplay it is relatively polished and enjoyable, just don't expect to be blown away. The biggest issue I experienced is that the game is broken on hard difficulty, there are 3-4 rooms that softlock your game if you are playing on hard mode and the only solution I found was to quit to menu, switch difficulty to normal, clear the room, switch back to hard and continue. What happens is that you will clear a "wave" of enemies and the next wave will just never spawn. Also a minor issue, the UI for changing difficulty is broken visually but it does function, wont bother explaining. There is a game called "RIVE" on steam that is very similar in terms of gameplay which I would highly recommend over this. In the end this game isn't bad, and it was enjoyable (outside of the softlocks) for the 90-120 minutes of gameplay it offers. But there are many many better games, RIVE being the closest superior alternative.
The game plays well and has an intriguing storyline. The vast array of weapons make replayability feel fresh. There's a lot of potential to continue growing. Addtionally, the developers respond well to feedback.
You're tripping and loving it ... ... until the skulls showed up. Ascending Madness is a twin shooter that'll challenge your arcade skills. As you play, you'll find a variety of psychodelic enemies while fighting them off with cool weapons and equipping with rune power ups. But it is much more than that. Immediately, you'll be thrown into Merrick's story that'll leave you asking "What is happening? What happened? Where am I (Merrick)?" As you explore, you'll meet other characters (if you can call them that) who will fill in the details and then confuse you more ... or perhaps it is just the madness talking? Pros: +Very polished combat +Weapons keep adding to the game +Love the 70's music +Interesting story +Challenging Bosses +Vibrant artwork that brings out the psychodelic Cons: -The gravity aspect of the gameplay will give you some trouble at times -Early Access (you'll want more of it filled out) This is a quality game. I am eager to see how it they fill out the game and finish it out.
Another great game from the indie dev generation. This is one of those games that expresses a unique environment and emotion through action packed exploration. If you're looking for an acid trip without going to your local drug store, this is it. Fun vibes and fun play!
This is a really fun game to play. The art is great too and the music is fun. I love the controls and the intuitive movement and shooting. Definitly worth more then $7.99. You can tell a lot of effort went into this and it looks really polished. One of those hidden gems on the steam store.
