Dead No Head is an adventure game with RPG elements and clear objectives, the adventure starts when you are brought out of the realm of the dead and brought back to life, but... ...without a head... Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zaDUNLdAEY Where has your head gone, and why have you been brought back to life just when you were eating fresh rice pudding with a golden spoon in heaven? These are questions that don't answer at the start of the adventure, but you have to survive against platforming routes, puzzles & enemies. Although you don't have a head, you still have the rest of your body that allows you to walk, climb, and jump as well as wield weapons to defend yourself with. How does 'Norix' know, because that's the name of the character, when and where the enemies are? Again, this is one of those questions you won't get an answer to right away, but either way, the lack of a head doesn't limit the brave 'Norix'. You will also earn XP throughout the game through your actions and with this XP you can improve Norix using skills & other upgrades.
Looking for a head
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2823210654
STORY
The hero is raised from the grave by a necromancer. But where is our head? Let's do this search
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is a mixture of ARPG and platforming. We run through sufficiently large levels, kill enemies and develop the hero. There are a lot of types of opponents and they are quite stupid. Sometimes you manage to shoot them without the slightest danger to yourself. The hero can fight with shooting or melee. There is also an acceleration, it can knock down medium-sized enemies. There is a beautiful mode of slowing down time when killing. Consider the pros and cons of the game, sum up.
PROS:
+ Simple but nice graphics. + Good music and sound accompaniment. + Large detailed levels. + Good character development system. + Interesting to shoot. + Sometimes good battles.
CONS:
- Sometimes the enemies are very easy to defeat and they can't do anything. - In some places the game freezes.
CONCLUSIONS
A good little game, a combination of ARPG and platforming. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2823210535
If you liked this review, then join the group and subscribe to the curator. More reviews on our Curator Page Dead No Head is an action adventure game with some simple RPG-like elements, where it somehow emulates a roguelike gameplay. Too confusing? Don't worry, it's actually very simple. Developed by a single person, this short-medium length journey works more as an action adventure, where our hero is brought back to life, headless, and with no clue of what's going on. Our journey is to follow the waves of this foreign land, while in search of answers, clues or anything that might help us get back the lost head. Now, the whole concept is very simple, but if you're in for a silly adventure, you'll most likely chuckle here and there. Story wise the game unfolds itself through short and simple dialogues between the main character and other key-related NPC's throughout the game. Gameplay is also very simple, with our hero Norix, being able to shoot his gun, and use melee for close-combat enemies. We can also throw grenades, dash, jump and climb in order to do some simple platforming. Dash is one of the two most important abilities Norix can learn, the other being the ability to slow down time. Perhaps the most interesting one, out of all the included features. For each enemy you kill, XP will be earned, ultimately unlocking a handful of unlockable skills. This is the part why I mentioned "roguelike" elements above. It's not a true game to its genre, but dying and trying are just ways to earn XP, to improve your character for the bigger challenges ahead. What do these skills consist of? That's where things become more interesting. There are two types of skills: Upgrades and Ability Points. The Upgrades allow Norix to improve several times an attribute, such as increasing his life, or the number of bullets he can carry. Abilities unlock only once per skill, such as boosting inflicted damage. Nothing special but suits the point of adding variety. Visuals have a nice set of colors, from vibrant forests to mysterious swamps, all if really well made sun rays and details. It's still relatively short and linear, so don't go expecting an open world. Level design is pretty simple, focusing the player to move forward and have the freedom to move around while dealing with enemies. There isn't much of an interactivity to be had, regarding secrets, or hidden documents. Not much effort was put into creating a world rich in lore or background history. As in many other Unreal Engine 4 games, Dead No Head includes a wide set of optimizations. No point in mentioning, because they all seem to be there. Originally, many were missing but the developer included every single requested feature, and chances are, if you have any technical issue, it can be added. Dead No Head is a short-medium action game that can greatly extend your gameplay time if you aim at the higher difficulties. Will hardly be the best thing you played, but considering it's single handled being developed by one person, with pleasant visuals and no game-breaking bug, I'd say it can really be a fun one, especially if you're into third person shooters.
Game can get hard, very well composed music. A game made by one person, definitely worth the price this is the type of indie that we need to support.
Fantasy TPS action + graphics - story = Pretty cool headless guy with a revolver in Dark Souls/DOOM vibe. It is an action game, so hopefully you didn't come for the story. Shoot all kinds of monsters and throw some bombs. Not sure how he talks without his head? Surprisingly better than I expected. Game mechanics are pretty straightforward and jump dashing is a nice touch.
Follow our curator for similar games
Definitely the kind of creativity and work that should be encouraged when it comes to indie game development. Initially had a bunch of complaints, dev added quality of life changes very quick that made the game much better. Now I find my self with several hours in game some parts genuinely enjoyable, others downright frustrating. The main issues holding me back from recommending the game at this point are the gunplay being lackluster, getting killed right after or during a cutscene, the significant FPS drop in the 2nd area(?), and being able to bypass quite a few puzzles. -Issues- Had some issues with changing resolution initially. Default motion blur is pretty heavy. Some enemies don't really get staggered when shot, they just recoil and slide continuing their approach. Second level has pretty significant frame rate drop and plenty of barrier breaking and softlock locations. First boss fight is great, second boss fight is the bane of my existence. Getting killed in cutscenes is cheating. Getting a checkpoint right before a 20 second long cutscene normally wouldn't be an issue, but when you can get 2 shot by an enemy right after the cutscene ends it's a real slap in the face to have to watch the cutscene again. Some puzzle doors can be bypassed without completing the puzzle. There's an entire segment of the game than can be more or less skipped. Characters with voice lines seem to talk constantly.
It's a good thing I got this game on sale. I can't believe it's not in early access because that's exactly what the status should be. Dead No-Head is a low-budget third person shooter that is clearly made by a very small indie developer. There is no voice acting, you just read text. There are invisible walls, trees floating off the ground, texture pop-in, frame rate issues, clipping through mountain walls, branches inside bushes can block bullets, you constantly get stuck on just about everything in the environment, and you can even fall out of a map like what happened to me. Bugs aside, the gameplay can get downright frustrating. Enemies rush you fast, so you are constantly running backwards trying to shoot them while they are dodging your shots and then you end up getting stuck in an area and killed easily. There is no manual save and checkpoints are FAR away, so you end up repeating the same lengthy sections over and over again. There is also no map or inventory to manage and you cannot loot bodies because they disappear after you kill them. Many enemies will also stand around and let you shoot them dead if you don't get too close. The platforming sections are especially frustrating because you must jump then press the sprint key in mid-air. And there are numerous platform jumps to make in this game. Also, if you remap WSAD to the arrow keys, you must still press W to climb up ledges. You also cannot crouch so there really is no good way to sneak up on enemies. I finally gave up on like my third attempt through a set of traps after dying and having to repeat the same lengthy prior combat section only to fall through the map inside a cave to some area out the forest/swamps again and I was not able to get back. In my opinion, this game is CLEARLY not ready and should be placed in early access until some major issues are addressed. I cannot recommend this game at all.
Wouldn't really put RPG tag, but what is here is pretty good, especially given the price and fact its the work of a single developer. The gunplay feels good - you're rewarded handsomely for headshots, and because your main weapon doesn't hitscan but shoots projectiles - you often have to lead the target. This leads to pretty cool player skill based strafing, dashing, jumping, as enemies often get in your face. There's soulslike element to the game as you die in few hits, but checkpoints are plentiful. Also, want to praise the music. While simple, it sounds pretty unique, and some soundtracks have this bizarro jazzy tunes to them. I really like it. Very well worth the money.
