https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2997117204
I usually want to give a positive review on indie games that are mid, but I don't think I can recommend this one. The best parts of this game are the environments, voice acting, and cut scene choreography. These components are at a stark mismatch with the lower effort low-poly graphics, but at least they filled the environment out with decent effects and lighting. I was expecting a puzzle game with some light platforming and exploration. Unfortunately the puzzles are kid-tier and the platforming isn't great. Tedium as a difficulty. It seems like a decent portion of the game is stealth sequences with invisible enemies - which is again at a massively stark contrast with the childlike components of the rest of the game. What an unpleasant experience to have to constantly ping the invisible enemies with your flashlight, but don't shine them for more than a millisecond or they will stagger and stop their patrol, making you wait even longer for that opening. Also these enemies are not repelled by the light sources that eradicate the other black slime patches. Not intuitive at all. The controls are very frustrating. Sometimes you don't clamber on a ledge when you should, and some ledges just can't be clambered, but there is nothing indicating that. You cannot rebind the controls and they set Q to interact instead of the industry standard E. Also set SHIFT to crouch instead of the industry standard C or CRTL. Weird choices that are annoying to get used to - unless this is the only game you've ever played...I guess. You can't aim your weapon, only use it in the flat direction your character is facing. You can't aim up or down. So if you want to drop into an area with invisible enemies patrolling, then you can't shine down to see where they are in advance. Just hope for the best. I really don't see a reason for the enemies to be invisible, it doesn't add any extra challenge or fun, just work. Possible the worst thing about this game, and something that I've never seen done in 30 years of gaming, is extremely poor saving/advancing. You can collect hidden gems, but if you don't complete a puzzle after that, then you'll have to do it again when you play next. Sometimes you will advance to an area and a cutscene will pull you to the next without any confirmation, meaning you can no longer get the hidden gems in that area. And these trigger points are not telegraphed at all. Not like you open a door to advance, you're just walking along and a guy starts talking to you and pulls you to the next area. I saw another review say they were annoyed about not getting to explore after collecting an item, and I thought to myself "surely it was obvious that would happen", but nope - it happened to me too.
This one is tricky. It has a nice artstyle and the story is neat so far if a bit basic. But the controls feel a bit too floaty and imprecise for what's supposed to be primarily a platformer. Additionally there are a couple annoyances like the unnecessary shaky-cam in some cutscenes. The camera in general feels slightly off. Like it switches it's movement speed very abruptly. In one mission i had to get 3 ores in a mine but i assumed i would have to manually leave afterwards so i didn't check out a secret i had noticed. But the game dragged me out once i got the 3rd item and i couldn't go back. Overall i still recommend it but it could definitely use another polishing pass
I played the demo on the last "Steam Next Fest" and maked me looking forward the full game release and i can say that the game didn't deceive. A chill stealth experience with nice graphics. As a personal preference i set the camera movement slower than it comes as default and now the game has a more natural feeling. After discovering that there are more mechanics than in the demo i'm starting to realize that some parts of the early game puzzles that felt i was unable to complete may need backward traking to discober new secrets. definitivellly I'll continue playing it.
I finished the story - it feels unpolished. For a game that was fully released it doesn't play smooth enough - at least for me. You can play it without any big problems tho. + aesthetics It's a cute looking game and it also has a lot of little things that made me smile. Like the dancing cactus in a plant pot. + story I'll avoid spoilers here so I'll just say it's a good story. + puzzles The puzzles are not too complicated. But also not too easy. And now to the things that are really annoying: - the camera feels off. Especially when it comes to the parcour elements camera behaviour can be annoying. I died a couple of times because the cam was rotating weird. If you stand in front of something and the camera can't keep the normal distance to your avatar then the camera gets so close that you can't see anything. Very funny in the sneaky parts because now you can't see the enemies anymore. Just the back of your own head. - get stuck on almost everything I was exploring my surroundings a lot. Therefore I was jumping around a lot and tried to reach things that I shouldn't be able to reach. It could be a secret - how should I know, right? So I got stuck in the falling animation so often and I had to restart my save file to be able to continue. But that also happens if you step over things on the ground or try to reach for an edge to hang on. And again - very funny when it happens and enemies are around. - controls sometimes doesn't work At least it felt like that. Can't say for sure tho. Maybe I was the problem here, not the game. Especially with the trails The controls and the camera bothers me so much I don't want to play it again to find the last secrets or to get the last achievements. It's a cool game and I love Indie games in general, but at the moment I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe I come back to it at a later time.
DE-EXIT is a beautiful platformer, action, puzzle, adventure game. The story catched me and I really like the level design. You have to save the world of the dead and it's fun but also sad. I played for about 3h and finished the first chapter. It has a few bugs but nothing too bad so far. Three things that I don't like: 1. Cam can be really a pain 2. Too many enemies at some points (you can't see them, can't fight them - it's annoying) 3. Control of the flashlight is bad (you can't look up and down but you have to because you can only recognize the enemies with this light)
From what I've played so far the game is very cinematic for a voxel art styled title. I appreciate that it has some voice acting as well. A solid title for the price. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/WkaM5GoZBBg
i buy skeletons and dead things, i leave dead and alone not one single patch or bugfix since launch. (Apr 14, 2023 - Jun 3, 2023) its indie, i did not expect much. its playable and has a story and interesting game style i finished the game, somehow. dont ask me just watch someone play it "TAKE HEED AND BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTHS THAT LIE HERE-IN" -- cain ** GNU/Linux steam proton 7.0-6
