Finally got a warrior rolling, unforgiving at times, but the times are great.
Hard, but good
Good
The game is excellent, is a well-made Rogue-like with interesting mechanics. The game mechanics work fairly good, is complex but not overwhelmed, the game definitely has more potential. It looks like the developer knows exactly what he was doing, and what a game "like-Rogue" is. Unfortunately, the game needs more development and balance (overall maturity). Although the mouse is supported, I play only with the keyboard, same for all the Rogue-like games, Dawn of Mexica is not an exception. To me, key controls are intuitive and easy. To unlock new classes is fairly easy, just play and experiment with different items, skills and new classes. Like-Rogue games, aka Rogue-like, are strategy/exploration games, you need planning/thinking, and you need to be tactical during the combat. Tip 1: Do the tutorial and read all the messages during the tutorial (Duh!). Before buying the game, I watched a moron on YouTube losing like 10 or more times in the tutorial, they guy didn't have a clue how to play. Tip 2: Read the in-game help (F1) and read Tips & Tricks Tip 3: Read the message log during the game! Tip 4: Don't be afraid to try, and experiment something new. Tip 5: Explore at your own pace, and discover the game. You don't need to rush and finish the game. If you still have too much trouble playing and need help, ask on the steam forum or go to the official discord. Spoiler Alert!
Dawn of Mexica has a variety of survival elements like food, drink water, hot, burn, cold and freeze. Difference resistance you need to manage Fire, Poison, Magic, etc. Different types of physical damage and enough skills to build your character. Dawn of Mexica has different systems you need to be aware of: Noise, Smell, Light/Dark, etc. With a variety of enemies and unique enemies.
The game has a unique combat system, you need to understand the mechanics and read the in game help/tutorial. Sure, the game needs QoL here and there, but it's not really that daunting. For a Fighter, you need to rest to have stamina, for a Mage you need to meditate before casting a spell. If you have an issue with the resolution, just lower the resolution. Dawn of Mexica needs to release a new update to balance the game overall, including the combat system. Include a better manual with more details on how the damage is calculated and how it affects every skill to the character stats. QoL required: - Run straight is needed it. Stop if in the sight is an enemy or item - Probably no need for auto-explore, but may help. - Combine the "resting systems". One button should be enough to recover health, stamina, and mana. The meditation from my POV should be included it here, if the Mage stands still. - Wait and Meditate should be one button. - Customizable keys to have a hotkey for bandage, torch and some other common actions - Allow swapping weapons, to help during the combat and swap between bow and sword - Keys customizable for magic to rapid cast a spell. To avoid press m-a-b-c - The numpad should be fully customizable, allowing to use the whole numpad, not only the numbers. Bug: - I only had one, where my character complete stopped moving. I need to create a new game. Despite the issues, I would recommend it.
Challenging and beautiful, my only desire is for a pronunciation key; less than 300 MB installed
Hard AF, wonderful challenge level. Interesting story if you are skillful enough to actually get to play through it.
Nada positivo que resaltar.
Excellent game and very well researched Mesoamerican theme/mythology. Surprisingly complex and unique. I would highly recommend for anyone who played Rogue of old and/or enjoys the rogue-like crawlers of today. I will say I hate it when the dogs die though. That just upsets me.
